What a wonderful story, finishing all the women of the Blue Orchid Society. I will miss these women, their strength and their fortitude.
Dahlia was humiliated at a ball, her reputation tattered by a cancelled engagement announcement. But through that event, she met a wonderful group of women. A group of women who encouraged and supported, who did not try to be better than each other. She then grew and made herself into something new, running a steamship company.
Miles had loved Dahlia for years, but the stars had never aligned. He tried to show her support after the event, but she was in a dark place. Now is his chance.
This book has romance, intrigue, suspense, and lovely scenery. The characters are well developed, and loveable.
4.5 stars
This was a sweet historical read. I have read some of the other books and enjoyed it so I was excited to read this one! Discovering Dahlia is the fifth and final book in Jennifer Moore’s Blue Orchid Society series.
I felt so bad for Dahlia as she tried to navigate life and her experiences. She was trying to learn how to deal with the expectations of others and her hopes for the future. She had to grow on me a bit but I ended up understanding her by the end of the story. I liked reading about her growing and becoming more confident. It was sweet to read about her interaction with ther friends and with Meredith.
I adored Meredith. He was just the sweetest and so loyal. He was struggling to figure out how to reach out to Dahlia while still staying loyal to his friend. I liked how he tried to help Dahlia on her own time while still showing her that he cared for her.
The romance was sweet as Dahlia was still healing and Meredith was navgating his friendships and hopes. I loved reading about Dahlia and Meredith reconnecting and falling for each other. Their interactions were cute especially because you can see that they truly cared for each other. The plot was engaging and I liked the hints of mystery added to the book. I was really invested in the story and I didn’t know what the outcome would be. I loved seeing old characters too.
Discovering Dahlia was a wonderful book and I would totally recommend it. The characters were fun and I greatly enjoyed the book. I am so sad to see this series end but I am excited to see what will come next. Discovering the Dahlia is a clean historical romance.
I enjoyed seeing all the Characters from previous books included in this 5th and final book in The Blue Orchid Society, both friend and foe. I liked seeing Dahlia so confident and having a direction after she was betrayed so horribly.
There are no swears, brief mentions of alcohol consumption, and level 1 non-descriptive kisses only.
What an amazing book! It is safe to say that I have a new favorite by Jennifer Moore. I have enjoyed the entire Blue Orchid Society Series and this was the perfect story to end it with.
After a broken engagement which results in Dahlia being shunned from Society she decides to open a luxury ocean liner through her steamship company. The success of her luxury liner rests in the hands of her friends and many members of the high society that shunned her only the year previously as they embarked on the ships first luxury journey. The trip isn’t smooth sailing as someone is trying to sabotage the trip and Dahlia’s life is in danger. Along the way Dahlia must rely on others for help including Lord Meredith. As Lord Meredith tries to figure out with the rest of Dahlia’s friends who the culprit is the pair slowly come to realize how much they mean to each other.
Overall I would highly recommend the whole Blue Orchid Society series including this riveting conclusion. Thanks to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I loved the "Blue Orchid Society" series, so it was bittersweet to open this last book, five years after I'd first fallen under the spell of the Blue Orchid ladies.
"Discovering Dahlia" is about a promising heiress, whose broken engagement and humiliation led to the creation of the Blue Orchid society with similar-minded ladies. All its members ended up finding their match in the next couple of years, and as this story begins, Dahlia feels a little lonely, as she doesn't have anyone to share her challenges, doubts and ultimately future with. While I think this is rather relatable, I was a little sad to find that the ladies' friendship was impacted by their respective marriages/engagements. It would have been interesting if this book had happened a few years later when Dahlia had truly had time to become well-established in her profession, and when the weight of loneliness burdened her even more but when her doubts about getting married were even stronger.
Dahlia, as a rich heiress, doesn't want to fall prey to a fortune hunter and has decided to carve her own path. She just opened a luxury ocean liner with her steamship company, inviting her friends and enemies (God knows why!) to join her on the maiden journey. While her former fiancé's presence and his wife's were explained, that of Dahlia's former friends remained a mystery! Especially as this first journey was so important for the reputation of the company... When illness and accidents befall several passengers, Dahlia and her old friend Miles Meredith must investigate. I found Miles and Dahlia's romance a little rushed — they did know each other years before, but they rekindled their friendship very quickly, in just a few days and without much chemistry between them. I wish there were more meaningful dialogues between them and thoughts about the implications of their courtship. The mystery was easily solved by the reader before the culprit was revealed, so while I wasn't expecting to read an Agatha Christie's book, I was a little disappointed to find out what happened so easily.
A book happening in a closed space is always interesting — I liked discovering the descriptions of the ship, its engine room, etc. The different places the ship stopped really added something to the story and I wish we got to explore more of these places.
Overall, it was still a cute story, as it was nice to see characters from the series make an appearance, but I feel like there were some loose ends and the romance was a little lukewarm. I still enjoyed this last book in the Blue Orchid series, and look forward to discovering more books by this author.
This story had it all - friends to enemies, romance, love, mystery, strong female lead, friends to lovers, and more. It really had it all! The entire time I was reading, I was on the edge of my seat. One year ago Dahlia suffered a blow she didn't see coming. She was a society darling and almost engaged until her intended Lord Ruben announced his engagement to another, Dahlia's good friend. Embarrassed, ashamed and shunned from high society, Dahlia found herself alone and lost. And worst of all, she lost her good friend, Lord Meredith, a close friend of Lord Ruben. After the scandal, and with her father ill, Dahlia, inherits his shipping company and with the help of her new friends and allies, she ventures into making luxury cruises and becoming an accomplished business woman. One year after her shunning, she invites her friends on the maiden voyage, however, lord Ruben and her former friends secure invites also. All is well ,until someone tries to sabotage the voyage. Finding herself confiding in Lord Meredith is comforting and a little exciting. Maybe she can find love on this voyage also but first they need to discover who is trying to ruin it.
This is a lovely conclusion to the series. I loved seeing Dahlia overcome her history and build her confidence. She knows her worth, and learns a supportive partner can be a wonderful addition to her life. And Miles is everything you want a MMC to be. Thanks to Covenant Communications for the ARC.
Discovering Dahlia is the 5th and final book in the Blue Orchid Society series written by Jennifer Moore. It was a great ending to this series.! Not only is it a sweet romance but also has some suspense and mystery thrown in!
I was excited to get to read Dalia’s story and see her growth from the beginning of the book, and the independent risk taking women she became. Her Love interest, Lord Meredith, was also a great character. They were a great fit!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book it has everything you could want in a sweet romance.!
This enchanting book truly has a wealth to offer. I thoroughly enjoyed it! The setting, the historical period, the romance, and the intriguing mystery all captivated me. I was genuinely surprised by the twists in the plot; it kept me guessing until the very end. I highly recommend you get a copy and uncover its secrets for yourself. Though it's part of a series, it absolutely works well on its own. Thank you Covenant Communications & NetGalley and
I received a complimentary copy, and all the thoughts expressed are my own and freely given.
Thank you net galley for the advance reader copy of this novel. This was a historical fiction set aboard a luxury ocean liner. It is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I have read others in the Blue Orchid series and that was helpful to me. I enjoyed this last one wmand Dahlias story. I was cheering for her and Lord Meredith!!! I wished there was more historical detail from the author as a post note or something. Great characters, good writing and clean romance!!! Will definitely read more by Jennifer Moore!
I loved this book! The book moves fast from a romantic disappointment for Dahlia to how Dahlia paves her own way as a business woman who takes over her father's shipping company. Her ingenious idea to open a cruise line is ahead of its time. The inaugural voyage results in a nefarious mystery that is difficult to solve and a surprise chance for a new romance for Dahlia. The mystery was my favorite aspect, and the romance was completely clean (on brand for Proper romance books!) and added a fun element as well.
Overall this is a fantastic book. Its book 5 in the Blue Orchid Society. While I have read other books in the series, I haven't read all of them and still thoroughly enjoyed this book. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy. A review was not required.
Once I saw this was a part of a series - I went searching for the rest of the novel starting with the first one.
This is a great read of young women who were forced out their comfort zone to find their goals. I would not call it a hard read but well written.
I enjoyed it and would read more books by this author.
Gah! I’ve been waiting for Dahlia’s story and it did not disappoint! I am so proud of Dahlia and her journey, she took what was given to her and made it shine. I am so proud of Miles for his growth as a person, he realized what was most important in his life and went for it. Watching Dahlia and Miles fall in love, solve mysteries and help each other was everything I could have wished for. The perfect ending to a wonderful series, I have loved each of the books! If you haven’t read the other books, I highly suggest you do. The women of the Blue Orchid Society will inspire you.

This is the fifth and final book in the Blue Orchid Society series. Dahlia awaits that announcement of her engagement at a ball, but when the announcement is made, she is shocked to hear her best friends name instead of her own. A year later finds Dahlia Lancaster aboard a cruise ship that she designed a maiden voyage with her friends and wealthy passengers. When unexpected things begin to happen, Dahlia wonders if she shouldn't cancel the cruise altogether. This book had a ribbon of suspense woven through it and was a great end to the series.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book. This is book 5 in the Blue Orchid Society, and it did not disappoint. Each book can be read as a stand-alone novel. This book follow Dahlia, a young female entrepreneur, and Lord Meredith as they work together to figure out who is out to destroy her steam ship business. This book includes romance, adventure, and mystery. If you love clean historical romances, then this is a must read.
This was a strong fifth entry in the Blue Orchid Society series, it had that historical romance element that I was looking for and enjoyed the overall feel of this. The characters were everything that I was wanting and enjoyed the overall feel of them in this world. I enjoyed the way Jennifer Moore wrote this and it was a beautifully done story and enjoyed the ride.
Discovering Dahlia is the fifth and final book in the Blue Orchid Society series by Jennifer Moore. This book is set in Victorian England in 1873 and includes the full cast of characters from the previous books in this series. It might be hard for readers to grasp all the names in this book if they haven’t read the previous books, so I recommend reading those first for the richest experience.
Miles and Dahlia are both members of elite English societal circles. They have some mutual friends, and have themselves enjoyed friendship in the past. Due to being publicly rejected by one of Miles’ friends, Dahlia keeps her distance from Miles even though she wishes they could be friends again. Miles holds a torch for Dahlia, and will do anything to be near her.
They get their chance at forced proximity when they both embark on a steam ship leisure excursion with their friends. Dahlia owns the ship, so she must manage all the daily ship operations and several mysterious happenings. Miles seizes the opportunity to assist Dahlia and the ease and mutual enjoyment of their former friendship is reinvigorated.
Together they must protect the ship’s patrons from an unknown nefarious person, and also see if they can forge a future together.
I enjoyed this book and the dual POV and of both Miles and Dahlia. If you like clean historical romance with a cozy mystery/suspense vibe and no heavy themes, you’ll love this book. There are a few great tropes too: age gap, he falls first, and friends to more.
This was a gentle story with a few slow parts toward the middle in my opinion, but the friendship and love that developed between Miles and Dahlia was very sweet.
The word usage seems appropriate for the time period, but modern enough that readers can easily comprehend it. I really enjoyed reading the history of early steam ship leisure travel excursions and also early female business owners during the Industrial Revolution.
Historical note: The Victorian game of quoits is mentioned often and worth looking up before you start reading. It’s similar to the game ring toss.
Content: No language, graphic violence, or explicit scenes. Kisses only. Appropriate for any age.
Thank you to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for a complementary copy of this book. My review contains my own words and is in no way influenced by the author or publisher.
I pretty much enjoyed this story. I finished it in one evening because it was so good.
Wonderful characters and a great storyline set aboard a cruise ship. S.S. Aurora.
I loved the way the author described the ship to make us readers feel like we are aboard as well.
Dahlia is a cool character in my opinion. I really enjoyed in getting to know her.
5 stars for a wonderful adventure! I highly recommend
My thanks for a copy of this book
I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed.
This book was absolutely amazing! I hav r ever read a historical fiction book like this one! The story was so unique and I could not put it down!
I liked this book. It was well written and happened on a cruise ship, which was unique. The mystery aspect of the story was interesting, with a ton of twists and turns. The broken friendships and the emotions were flushed out well. The romance itself was very lukewarm. I did not feel like Dahlia and Miles did not spend as much time with their feelings as much as solving the mystery.
