I'm so sad that I didn't enjoy this one as much as I would have liked. There are too many characters for me as a reader to take in. The detailed school descriptions are too long and, frankly, boring. The plot is interesting but drowns in all the chaos. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

I was hooked from the mystery element in this book, it had that feel that I wanted from the description. I was engaged with what was happening and thought the characters worked well in this universe. Paul Nicholas Mason wrote this perfectly and was engaged with what was happening in the story.

Synopsis
We follow a group of students, teachers and detectives as they try and figure out who murdered a student in the chapel.

Thoughts
I quite liked this one. Not a 5 star, maybe 4 stars. But the writing flowed and the chapters were really short. It read almost like a short story collection. There was a good amount of dialogue to description. The characters built each other up. One thing I would advise is not to include so many characters as it could distract the reader from the plot line.

Audience
While I am hesitant on this one, I think the audience could be 16+.. If the child is mature, you could give them this book as a quick read. But generally I would market this as new adult. I would also target the people who love thrillers and mysteries.

To Our Graves hooked me right from the start with its chilling setting and tangled mystery. When a student is found murdered in the chapel of an elite Canadian school, Detective-Sergeant Diane Stewart digs into a web of secrets and suspicion that had me guessing until the end. The combination of an eerie private school atmosphere, complex characters, and sharp pacing made this a total page-turner. I couldn’t put it down because every chapter felt like peeling back a new layer of intrigue—perfect for fans of smart, suspenseful thrillers.

🕵️‍♀️ Murder, secrets, and a fancy private school? Oh, you know this is gonna get juicy! To Our Graves drags you into the dark halls of St. Cuthbert’s College where nothing is as perfect as it seems. The second Detective Diane Stewart showed up, I knew things were about to hit the fan, and boy, did they. I was side-eyeing every character like they owed me answers. It’s fast, twisty, and so satisfying when all those secrets start exploding. If you like murder mysteries that keep you guessing (and gasping), grab this book and enjoy the ride. 🔍📖

It must be extremely difficult to write a novel, so I’m glad to see that other reviewers enjoyed this one. Unfortunately, this book was not for me. The author devotes the same amount of attention to the running of the school (he worked in such a place after all) and the lives of every character than he does to the investigation of the crime. There are too many names, backstories and red herrings, which makes it confusing. The dialogues include details that do nothing to advance the plot (what everybody was eating and drinking, for example). The first mention of cause of death comes at 63% and at over 70% one of the detectives mentions how it would be good to find the weapon (well, isn’t that your job?). Readers who enjoy rich backstories and value details over action will probably like this novel. I didn’t.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/Now or Never Publishing.
