Harlan Coben books are always a hit! Fast paced and gripping. I hope this one day too becomes a Netflix mini series! Thank you Coben for always entertaining us!

Nobody’s Fool brings back one of Coben’s characters, Detective Sami Kierce, from Fool Me Once and 9 years later, he’s taking the front seat in this thriller story that focuses on his past and present.

Along with his astoundingly bad luck, Sami brings a new look, now working as a private detective and teaching a class on that very subject, he spots a figure in the back of the class – someone he once knew very well and thought was dead. He was there, after all.

As with all Coben’s books, there’s no lack of wit and a rich twisty plot full of trickery and deceit. Delving into Sami’s past was fascinating – from one catastrophic incident to the present, the reader gets insight into why and how Sami did/does what he does. Just fascinating to read about and all while on the edge of my seat – BRAVO! The way the past and present intertwine is just a work of art and racing through this story was a thrill ride. I never worked out exactly what was happening and when the puzzle pieces start to move together, again, BRAVO!

And …. That last line!

I’ll leave this here and hope that every Coben fan and every thriller fan enjoys this as much as I did and, like me, can’t wait to read what happens next for Sami.

My thanks to Grand Central Pub for this gifted DRC!

Thanks to Netgalley, Grand Central Publishing, and Hachette Audio for early ebook and audiobook access in exchange for my honest opinion. I mixed up reading and listening to the audio, and I thought the audio was done extremely well - I tended to listen more than reading because I wanted to know what was going to happen ASAP while I was doing household chores, etc. I definitely recommend both formats, and if you aren’t already a fan of Harlan Coben’s writing, get excited because there are SO many books of his that you can add to your TBR!
Nobody’s Fool follows one of the characters in Fool Me Once, Coben’s previous release which has been turned into a highly-rated Netflix show. I haven’t watched it, but I took the time to read Fool Me Once, because I figured I should go into this one with as much background knowledge as possible. I really enjoyed Fool Me Once, and it wasn’t until about 2/3 of the way through Nobody’s Fool that I was glad I had read that one, as more connections are revealed. I do think you could read Nobody’s Fool without having read Fool Me Once, but I got more out of this read (and I think you would, too) by knowing more about how the characters and locations involved overlap.
The plot starts 20+ years ago, when Detective Kierce is backpacking Spain with his college buddies after graduation. He has a fling which ends with him waking up covered in blood, with a knife in his hand. He flees back to the US and moves on with his life, eventually becoming the Detective in Fool Me Once. Kierce now works as a PI and is teaching a night class for budding detectives when a woman appears at the door - and he immediately recognizes her as the woman he had a fling with in Spain. She bolts, and he follows her, knowing he has to find out what happened - because he thought she was dead. It’s twisty and exciting, and I absolutely loved it. Coben can do no wrong in my mind!

Nobody's Fool is the second book in Harlan Coben's Detective Sami Kierce series. It is the first book I have read by him, but it is not the first time I have encountered his work. I have watched almost all of his TV shows on Netflix and loved them dearly, so when I had the opportunity to read one of his books, I didn’t hesitate.

I am glad I did, as I fell in love all over again, drawn into one of his captivating stories. Nobody’s Fool hooked me from the beginning with its twists and turns. The mystery and suspense appeared on every page, making me race to the finish to see how it would unfold.

I tried to understand what was happening, but I soon realized that would not be possible. Just when I thought I was on the right track, another twist sent me off in search of the truth once more. Each twist left me in shock over what had happened all those years ago.

The man who was sent to prison for killing Sami’s ex-girlfriend has been released and claims he is innocent. He asks Sami to help him find the real killer.

One day, a woman from Sami’s past appears in his class, and when he calls out to her, she runs away, deepening the plot.

Who is this woman, and why did she flee? If the guy imprisoned for murdering his ex-girlfriend is innocent, then who is the real killer?

Grab a copy of Nobody’s Fool to find out who did it and why!

You can always count on Harlen Coben to bring a mystery to life.

I did not realize this was book number 2 in the series
and I did not read book number 1 prior to this one.

There were so many twists, it had my head spinning (in a good way).

Nobody’s fool is typical Coben (meant in the best way possible)! It is full of twists and turns-long thought dead people resurrecting complicated families and trademark humor. Cobens heroes are always a mess but always lovable and rootable. There are two main plot lines here-Sami runs a class for wanna be detectives. Sami had a bright future until he woke up after a night on spring break to find the girl of his dreams, Anna, dead besides him with a knife in his hand. Samis life and career was ruined. Leaving class one night, Sami sees a girl he thinks is Anna, but how is that possible? To make matters even more complicated, samis fiancé after Anna was murdered and her killer is now claiming that there is evidence that proves he was wrongly convicted of the crime. How will Sami reconcile these two unconnected events that are upending his life years later?

Coben is a master of plot and pacing and will have his legions of fans continuing to turn the pages to get to the conclusion! Keep track of all the sub characters as they prove important later near the denouement. Not sure if Coben does anything new here but when he has perfected his formula like this, I am not sure that he needs to!

Thanks to the publisher for providing this arc via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Goodness. There are so many twists, turns, and unexpected revelations throughout this story. I love when an author can meld together multiple storylines and also keep the story moving along. So much more I would like to say but I definitely don't want to give away any of the plot. Even though there were several side characters, it was almost more helpful keeping track of some of them due to the use of descriptive character names rather than given names.

There’s not a single book of Coben’s I can say I haven’t enjoyed and been entertained and this is no exception! Once again he brings his humor to the table and writes another roller coaster of a mystery. Thanks for the ARC and enjoyable read!

I’m not sure I’ve yet to read a Harlan Coben book that doesn’t throw me into an emotional rollercoaster. Through alternating timelines you are sucked in with a case that haunts Sami to this day. I loved the emotions this brought up but the ending did leave me wondering if we would be seeing more of Sami in the future? Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book!

Twenty some odd years earlier, Sami Kierce spent a summer trip to Spain where he meets a wonderful girl. After ditching his friends and spending all his time with her, he wakes up one morning to find her dead with a knife in his hands. Fleeing, he returns home to the US and does his best to put the nightmare behind him. Becoming a police officer who runs into trouble and now serves as a private investigator to make some wrongs right, he sees the girl. How can she be alive? What really happened all those years ago?

If you’ve ever read a Coben mystery, you are prepared for twists that keep you on your toes. Nobody’s Fool does not disappoint. Sami is a returning character from Coben’s Fool Me Once, so he may be familiar. He has flaws but that makes him relatable, and you find yourself invested in his life and want to solve the mystery right along with him. And there’s a possibility of a third book following Kierce and I’m ready for it!

Thank you to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

He does it again.!!! Another heart pounding thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat! Action packed, twisty, and super entertaining.

I love the fast paced writing style that Coban has. But this ending was jaw dropping and I need more now there better be a sequel coming.!!!

Some of it is predictable yes but I don’t care. The last twists are just amazing. The other stuff doesn’t even matter.🤣

My only critique would be more of an explanation about why the perpetrator was the perpetrator.

This book is a great time!!!

Twenty two years later and a night in Spain that ended in bloodshed still haunts Detective Sami Kierce. Told in alternating timelines, Harlan Covan masterfully creates a suspenseful storyline that has the reader piecing together the story just as Kierce himself is. Raw, powerful, and absolutely gripping from start to finish!

Nobody’s Fool is a clever, twisting, action packed mystery with a wicked sense of humor. And I have to say it wasn’t a book I really expected to see considering the last time we saw Sami Kierce was like 8 or 9 years ago in Fool Me Once. And I’ll be honest while I did read that one upon release, I only vaguely remember it and I still haven’t watched the Netflix adaptation that came out last year. What I will say is that I loved this story and Sami is such a great, complex character. I am so thrilled Coben brought him back for another outing. And what a story it is. Taking place a year after the events of Fool Me Once, Sami is now teaching, and one night he sees a woman who can’t possibly be there. Why not? Well a couple of decades ago he woke up next to her dead body! This a mystery he can’t resist. He has to discover the truth. As I said, this a wild, thrilling, and twisty mystery. This is vintage Coben! I’d like to thank Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an eARC of Nobody’s Fool.

Happy Publication Day to Harlan Coben for Nobody's Fool! Technically the No.2 in the Detective Sami Kierce series, this can easily be read as a stand alone, but Fool Me Once was such a good book I'd recommend that too. Coben is known for his twisty thrillers and Nobody's Fool is no different. We find Sami Kierce teaching when a face from the past shows up in his class, yet he thinks this is impossible. Impossible you say? It's a Coben novel, nothing is impossible. Written in that fast paced and unique style fans adore, this is one thriller not to be missed. Thank you to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC!

Thank you to Grand Central Publishing for the widget to read new Harlan Coben! I have loved everything I've read from Mr. Coben so far and this story was no different! As usual, he kept me on the edge of my seat and needing to know how the story would play out!

This is technically number 2 in the Sami Kierce series but I didn't know that before reading and didn't feel like I was missing anything; so this can definitely be read as a standalone.

The very beginning of this completely sucked me in. The instalove between Sami and Anna and then the tragedy was quite an opening! The story unfolds bringing us along as Sami realizes what really happened with Anna. There were some great twists in this that I loved. There were some parts that were harder to read and made me dislike certain characters but it was done in a way that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story. I read this in a rush needing to know how it would play out.

The mystery kept me reading this in a rush but I also really loved (most of) the characters! They were a big driving force of this storyline for me.

There is a lot packed into Nobody's Fool. There may be too much. If you have read Harlan Coben before you have expectations of twists, turns, and more twists and turns. It's an enticing drama filled rollercoaster, just like you'd expect but, is there too much? I got bogged down in everything and couldn't keep it all straight. That may be a me problem so I'm still recommending you give it a try, especially if like Harlan Coben!

Twenty-two years ago, Sami Kierce woke up in Spain covered in blood, holding a knife with a dead girl beside him. Remembering nothing, Sami does the right thing and goes to the police, but when the police want to talk to him again, his father urges him to return to the US. Today Sami is a private investigator and married with a baby. Trying to make ends meet, Sami teaches a class to a group of wannabe sleuths. When a woman pokes her head into his class one night, he recognizes her immediately, it’s hard to get the face of a dead woman out of your head, even if it’s been twenty-two years! Perplexed, Sami follows her ending up at a heavily secured site, not showing on any map. What in the world is going on? With the help of his sleuths, he’s soon to find out. Coming face to face with his past has Sami looking at his future. Written in the style of his Myron Bolitar series, this was a very fun read with a group of charming characters along with the baddies. Thank you to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

This is the second book in the Sami Kierce series but easily could be read as a stand alone as I have not read the previous book. This has a good pace, good plot and keeps the reader engaged and flipping the pages, be prepared to stay up late reading and being exhausted in the morning. Sami Kierce, a disgraced ex-policeman, who is trying to make ends meet and support his wife and infant son by teaching classes in criminology for would be amateur detectives. Even though Sami is no longer a detective his instincts and ability to analyze seemingly unrelated facts are still amazing. Sami also teaches as a side job with ciminology students that have no problem working around the system to come up with details and putting themselves at a potential risk, but they are able to come up with leads that others might not follow up on. He might have fallen from grace within the police department but he is still a good guy and the relationships he keeps are solid. I love the dynamic he has with his wife, his former police force partner and his unlikely group of delinquent criminology students. This story takes us back through a lot of history and mystery in Sami’s younger life. There is a lot of investigative work, painful memories, grief and loss. Some of the twists were predictable but the twist at the end really got me and left me with more questions. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and Grand Central Publishing - looking forward to another Harlan Coben book.

Loved this new book by Harlan Coben! Suspenseful, sinuously twisty as a snake, full of misdirection and shocking surprises, it's certainly one of his best. It's a whodunnit that keeps leading you in different directions; even the end was a surprise.

The story is this: young Sami, a premed student, goes on a summer vacation with a group of friends. While in Spain, he meets this girl, Anna. When his friends move on to the next step in the journey, Sami stays behind. Then one morning he wakes up to find Anna in bed, covered in blood, seemingly dead, and a knife in his hand. He freaks out (as any good college student would do) and leaves the country. Many years later, much of them filled with mistakes that leave him working as a 2 bit investigator and teaching a class in investigation, he thinks he sees Anna. How could that be, she's dead, isn't she? Or is she? The investigation part of the story is the best part; Sami has to know what's going on, whether it's really Anna, and he engages his sharpest students as they work to figure things out. Toss in a very wealthy family, who wants to help (or do they?) and a cast of shady characters (or are they?) and you won't be able to put the book down until all is revealed (or is it?). Really fun read, great for vacation, on the airplane, or at the beach. Don't miss this book!

Wow! This was twisty and turny! I was never sure who was who, but it was exciting and kept you reading for sure! I really liked the characters, especially Sami and Molly! Marty was really cool too. Anna, not so much, but a good character none the less. Loved his students!
Highly recommend!
