This is a GREAT read for young kids, teens, and adults. While it is geared toward what feels like ages 8-12, anyone could learn about the facts and myths of some truly remarkable women. I like how the authors chose to mix in well-known names such as Taylor Swift, Michelle Obama, Marie Curie, and Medusa with not-so-well-known names. I had never heard of many of the women in this book, so it was fun to actually learn something new! I also love that my favorite political leader, Jacinda Ardern, was included.
The format is very repetitive on each page for each woman, with the authors giving you a fact and then a silly little myth, followed by a literal “Oh no they didn’t!” every time. That was a little obnoxious for my taste, but I can see how it would be amusing for a younger kid. The end features a somewhat helpful timeline of each woman and a map of where they’re from (which does make you question why so many are from the US and UK when there are so many remarkable women everywhere else). The best part, as a teacher, is the glossary! Lots of great words back there to do with activism, women’s rights, and all of the categories in which each woman falls.

Great book to learn more about women throughout history! I loved the humor on every page of this one, and the "Oh No They Aren't" concept was fun and fresh. Definitely would be engaging for the kiddos! I found myself fascinated and learned many facts about women that I did not even know existed!

Thanks to NetGalley, Eric Huang, and Quarto Publishing for the chance to read and review. My opinions are my own!

Reading challenge category - 2024 Flourish and Blotts: Astronomy - Sirius: Stars on the pages (stars - celebrities)

A fact-filled book about amazing women throughout history (and of myth). The illustrations left a bit to be desired. Some faces were kinda scary looking. I get that it's the 'schtick' for this series, but the "oh no she didn't" repetition was quite distracting as well.

I was curious to see which remarkable women were going to be put into this book and it did not disappoint. Learning about all these women was eye-opening and interesting. Young girls and women should read this book to get an idea of how to become remarkable even if it's not becoming famous but just by being themselves and doing what they love. The graphics in this book were spot-on and vivid. I would highly recommend this book to any girl or woman who is feeling down about life or themselves.

This was a fun and informative book. It keeps the sections short while still giving important information about the women selected for this book. The illustrations are wonderful and the book has a nice flow overall.

This book tells the stories of many important and influential women in history. The author made sure to include women from different cultures and backgrounds, even figures in mythology. Diversity is something I appreciate especially in children's books. The illustrations were great as well!

While this book offers a compelling and thorough historical look at the achievements of various women across both the arts and sciences, I felt that it leaned a bit too heavily into the "oh no they didn't" style of commentary on each page. These attention-grabbing blurbs could have been used to showcase each woman's accomplishments. The books historical coverage is one of its strengths. The title covers a diverse range of fields showing how women have shaped and contributed to history in both creative and scientific domains. Coverage of current celebrities could cause parts of this book to date more quickly. I was surprised to note that there did not seem to be any women involved in writing or illustrating this title.

Oh No They Aren’t: Remarkable Women by Eric Huang is an informative and entertaining resource, dispelling many misconceptions, or little-known details about extraordinary woman from throughout history.

There is such diversity in the women in this book, including formidable first ladies, musical maestros, leading ladies, sports stars, and fearless fighters. There are valued extras located at the back, including a glossary, timeline and map, which provide additional context and learning opportunities for curious minds.

The layout is brilliant with extra information boxes and some comical speech bubbles. Sam Caldwell has provided engaging, yet visually appealing illustrations. This book is great for all young people to learn about remarkable women who have shaped history.

Many thanks Quarto Publishing Group for the digital review copy for review consideration, via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I am looking forward to more of this informative series from Eric Huang.

This was a quick, easy read that featured a variety of women from all ages, not to mention giving a nod to some early mythological representatives. The selection was a nice mix of known and relatively unknown names to me although I'll note for modern readers that the likes of Taylor Swift, Oprah, and several First Ladies were highlighted. I actually never knew only a few of our First Ladies had achieved Master's Degrees, just one of the facts I picked up as I read. While aimed at young readers, it's always nice to discover there is something there for even us so called adults to learn, too. It was definitely great to see the female human computers of NASA, so to speak, be spotlighted as well as earlier leaders in math/science development such as Ada Lovelace and movie star Hedy Lamarr.

The book follows the same general structure throughout. It's ordered by category, including Legends, Geniuses, Creatives, Superstars, Leaders, and Trailblazers. Each features the chosen subjects, starting with a text of what we think we know about them, only to tell us the truth about that assumption. Each of the characters is nicely drawn, with artist Sam Caldwell seeming to draw on some feature or object related to the topic. The illustrations are fun and lively, frequently accompanied by short text boxes or dialogue balloons adding more. I definitely liked that the subjects came from different places and times, giving a diverse feel to the book. The combo of well-known figures and those only vaguely known or even new to us was a nice mix, too.

Finally, to help add a sense of order and time, there's a timeline of when each individual was born, followed by a world map showing where. It was fun to look at both and see where their lives merged, not to mention the different continents they were born in. There's also a glossary with easy to grasp definitions. The ample use of color and placement, so to speak, were helpful throughout. Thanks #QuartoPublishingGroup - #wordsandpictures for the early share of this intriguing look at the roles women have not just taken but excelled in throughout history. Readers, this would make a great gift for both students and teachers, not to mention just those interested in history and women's roles in it. It made me take another look at Jane Austen's books, that's for sure, and her critiques of societies.

In this concept, it is easy and fun to explore what women have been achieving throughout history with panels, illustrations, information boxes, and conversation bubbles. How dare those women!

This is a cute series that explores common myths, and ideas about things. In this case, this volume is about remarkable women. This includes legends, geniuses, creatives, superstars, leaders and trailblazers. So we read about goddesses, as well as historical women, such as Hua Mulan, Pocahontas and Joan of Arc. and into the present day, with Taylor Swift and Amanda Gorman.

The pictures a fun. The little bios are quick and easy to read, and give you information you may or may not know. And because the theme of these books, is distilling misinformation, they often mention the misconception and follow it up with the truth.

I love how these books teach these facts gently, and give us a wide range of women, not all of whom are from the US.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review. This book is coming out on the 28th of January 2025.

Remarkable Women by Eric Huang is a wonderful book that explores how women have helped shape the remarkable world we live in. From leaders and activists, to athletes and artists, and even ancient goddesses, the book shows younger readers, in an informative and creative way, a diverse range of successful women and their impact in history and present time. I especially love the parts that clear up the common misconceptions about each woman (the “Oh no, they didn’t!” Parts”, and I adore all of the colorful illustrations made by Sam Caldwell throughout the book.

I can absolutely see young readers loving this book that makes learning about so many inspiring women interesting, and most importantly, fun!

A delightful and informative look at remarkable women throughout history — from those you've heard of like Amelia Earhart to more recent newcomers like Taylor Swift. Even though many of these women are ones who have graced our history class curricula for decades, the author does a wonderful job of including a wider array of women with diverse backgrounds and life stories. I love how the author addresses the preconceived notions about each woman, hence the "Oh no they didn't!" throughout. The illustrations are so bright and engaging, as well!

I especially love the back pages -- a visual timeline, a world map, and a helpful glossary all help to contextualize the women and their lifetimes.

Remarkable Women!, written by Eric Huang and illustrated by Sam Caldwell, is a nonfictional book written about different women in history who have made a difference.

I think that this is a great book for elementary aged students. I enjoyed that they featured women from different areas and times, and that they told the real stories behind a couple of different Disney princesses as well. I feel that this book was inclusive of individuals from different ages and backgrounds, which will help appeal to a variety of children reading this book. I also really appreciated the map and timeline in the back of the book, as well as the glossary so readers can remember what they learned about.
I definitely recommend this book! Thank you to NetGalley, and to the author, publisher, and illustrator of this book for an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

This is truly an amazing book to educate and inspire children, highlighting the achievements and lives of over 50 remarkable women! I adore how wide-ranging the chosen ladies are, spanning from goddesses and politicians to writers and pop stars, each chosen for excelling in their fields, often reckoning against adversity or prejudice. Any child reading this will find at least one role model aligned with their interests (even maths!) and learn tons of other facts along the way.

I am already planning to buy this to gift to my god-daughter. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Phenomenal Women

This book covers a range of fantastic epic women from historical to more modern day artists. The facts about these women not only pulled me in but also made me keep page turning to see who was behind the next page. This would make a great gift, library book or addition to a classroom for strong female representation.

The illustrations grab your attention and do justice to the women referenced.

I received a free copy of this book from Eric Huang and Quarto Publishing Group. I am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions are my own.
