The Fox and the Falcon is the second book in the No Other Gods series. Marlow and Fauna (a fae) are on a quest to get help and resucue their lovers who are being held captive. Fauna is keeping her own secrets from Marlow , however Marlow doesn't know who to trust as they try to raise an army to break Az, a demon and Caliban, the Prince of Hell out of the prison that they are in. Marlow has always had Caliban by her side her entire life. She has been his since they crossed paths thousands of years ago. In each cycle that Marlow is in Caliban has always found her.. This cycle is very different from ones before Marlow, has fae blood and will do everything and anything to get Caliban back. Salis is an angel that has been choosen to make sure that Caliban and Marlow don't suceed in getting what they want. Now he must do what no other has done and shows Marlow what had become of her in all of her past lives. The Fox and the Falcon is a great follow up to the first book The Deer and the Dragon. While the ending to me felt like it could have another book in the series. I would like to thank both NetGalley and Bloom Books for letting me have an advanced copy of this book.
This book was everything I hoped and more. Action packed while further developing themes and characters from The Deer And The Dragon in ways that that hit hard and keep you wanting more. I laughed, I cried, I cursed and thanked the author in the same breath for addressing unhealed and generational trauma with such nuance.
The folklore and mythology is phenomenal. The spice is 🌶️🌶️🌶️. I can't recommend it enough.
The 2nd book in the No Other Gods series started strong and continued in full force up to the final line. I don't know how Piper can write each book better than the last! The Fox and the Falcon is full of Piper's usual humor, heartbreak, and plot twists. I cried from laughing. I sobbed as Piper ripped my heart from my chest. This book took me through so many emotions as the characters went on their journey.
In The Fox and the Falcon, Piper takes the readers to new realms to meet new characters and explore new pantheons. Her beautiful prose is so perfect at describing places in the fae realm. She makes me want to follow the fae right into a faery ring! I didn't think I could fall in love with the characters more after book 1, but I did. I love that the characters are a little messy, chaotic, and imperfect, as it only adds to the realism of their development and growth. As the character's relationships deepened with each other, my love for them grew. If you're a fan of modern mythology and fantasy, this series is a must-read. I know it is a series I will be returning to time and time again.
As a huge Piper CJ fan, I was prepared for amazing.
But Piper, you took my heart out, stomped on it, then the oxygen from my lungs, and doused me in ice water. You tore at my reality and merged it with thousands more. I'm in mourning, because I will never get to read this for the first time again and because I need more.
There is no other way to describe the beautifully heretical tale that I found myself swept up in. I received an ebook advanced copy of this book and as a huge Piper CJ fan, I was prepared for amazing.

Amps up the stakes while building up not only the romantic relationship, but the main character's relationships with others and herself. The flashbacks are so raw, I cried. Don't know what to do with myself after that ending!!
