I absolutely loved it. I was very much looking forward to this one and the dynamic between Icarus and Poseidon. I was not disappointed and the progression of the overarching plot of this series was very exciting as well. Katee Robert really understands their characters and manages to give each one their own unique voice.

Sweet Obession is book 8 in the Neon Gods series. This book follows Icarus and Poseidon after Minos has been killed and Icarus is now being held captive by Poseidon. The only way Icarus can survive this is to seduce Poseidon and then escape Olympus for good. Poseidon nows all of the games that Icarus is capible of and will not fall for them. Posiedon's goal is to help Hera over power Zeus and make pay for all that he has done. Now with Circe waiting to invade Olympus, Poseidon needs to keep Icarus safe at all costs. This was a fast read like all of Katee Robert books. It gives you a different look at two strong men and what they will do to be together for a lifetime. I would like to thank both NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for letting me read an advanced copy of this novel.

Very fun and addictive as expected from this author. The poly vibe in here was really well done and the plot was super intriguing and the spice of course as good as ever.

Sweet Obsession by Katee Robert is a steamy and captivating read that will leave you wanting more. The chemistry between Poseidon and Icarus is undeniable, and their story is full of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Robert's writing is as addictive as ever, and she has created a world that is both dark and alluring. If you're a fan of Greek mythology retellings with a spicy twist, then you'll definitely want to check out Sweet Obsession.

This is my favorite book in the Dark Olympus series so far. I absolutely loved watching Icarus grow and finally find his own sense of self-worth after spending his entire life as his father’s pawn and scapegoat. His journey to self-love was incredibly moving. And Poseidon—everything about him just tugged at my heartstrings. I’m beyond excited for Zeus and Hera’s book next!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the opportunity to read this ARC.

He was mine to protect. Mine to adore. Mine to lose forever.

In this scorchingly hot modern retelling, Icarus finds himself in the rough hands of Olympus's Poseidon. While Olympus teeters on the brink of destruction, Icarus sees beyond Poseidon's stormy exterior to the warmth and vulnerability within. As they prepare for battle against Circe, their growing bond reveals that neither is what the other expected. Poseidon, kind and protective, contrasts with Icarus’s survivalist tendencies, creating a compelling dynamic.

I loved Poseidon's gentle nature, making him stand out in the series. The evolving relationship and mutual understanding between him and Icarus are beautifully portrayed. This book is a fantastic addition to the series, and I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment. Poseidon truly gives off cinnamon bun vibes!

“To those who continue to fly too close to the sun, no matter how often it burns us.”

Hm, i can't really decide on a rating. Because i love the Characters and at the beginning i thought the Book was great but at some point the Story didn't really grab me anymore and j only read it for the love Story but even that was completely rushed at some point and they definitely needed more time.

Unfortunately i didn't find the ending that great either. I like the idea itself of course but the execution wasn't so great.

- thank you so much Netgalley for giving me this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

This is probably my favorite book in the Dark Olympus series so far. I enjoyed the love story between Poseidon and Icarus and Robert's way of subtly addressing Poseidon's neurodivergent tendencies. The storyline woven throughout the series, basically the downfall of Olympus, made great progress in this book. Other books in the series tend to lean toward more spice than plot. I felt Sweet Obsession was quite the opposite. I appreciated the love scenes, but felt more satisfied with the movement of the plot.

I read this book in three sittings. The plot is fast paced and hard to put down. The romance was beautiful and addicting. I was more stressed where the book was going to end for our two lovers more then the war. I was fine with everyone dying if it meant they could stay together.

THANK YOU so so so much to Katee Robert and Netgalley and the publisher for my FIRST KR ARC in exchange for an honest review!!

I don't even know how to rate this one. I have complained so many times about this series being focused solely on smut at the expense of plot, and this was almost all plot and the smut was secondary. I feel like there was a happy medium that should have been reached, but I can't be angry.

I usually start these reviews with a filthy quote and this one was just... sweet.

NO shade, I LOVE KR's MM romances for just this reason. It feels as if since they don't have the equipment, they focus much more thoroughly on the emotions and what you get is this super sweet love story in the middle of the world falling apart. I was thrilled to get more Thirteen power plays and political machinations, but as a result, it felt like a lot of that emotion was unearned.

Poseidon didn't have anyone else, and Icarus didn't have anyone else. Icarus needed protection, Poseidon needed to protect. I'm certainly not saying they're NOT perfect for each other, but they fell so hard so fast, it wasn't at all hard-won. I HATE slow burn but I do not hate slow seduction and I LOVE getting-to-know-you. This was abrupt and sudden and as a result... awkward. I don't not believe they're perfect for each other, it was just odd to read.

On the other hand, without giving any of the plot away, we get so much more about the dynamics between the Thirteen, between Circe and the Thirteen, more personality differences between different major players; it was a GREAT addition to the Dark Olympus pantheon. Additionally, the power exchange was fun. I always love a big teddy bear and Poseidon was PERFECT! Icarus I didn't have as clear a picture of, but he was a totally decent character.

I think, as a whole, as it sits in the series, this one COULD be a bit forgettable, but as far as the others in this series I've given less than stellar ratings to, I thoroughly enjoyed this.

It makes me want to go back and re-evaluate giving Neon Gods only 3 stars, but funnily enough, I went back to that review and sure enough, this series has really evolved for me:

What I liked
Lots of representation!! Per the ushz!

What I liked
Their pasts were explored! We know that Poseidon has not been in a power exchange relationship before, we know Icarus has only ever used sex to get blackmail on his partners. One is clearly a teddy bear and the other becomes the reformed bad boy. The development, the progression is clear.

What I liked
Lots of communication before scenes and about consent and safe words, etc...

What I didn't like
... With so much actual plot, sure wish there had been more sexy times to cleanse my palate! And while I'm at it, there was NO smooth transition between plot and smut, which was ALWAYS jarring.

What I liked
Once again, always, gotta love that Greek pantheon personification! A lot of characters that have been missing the past few books make appearances. I love the grudge that Circe has against the "gods" and I love that Icarus is the fallen son who's rescued by the god of the sea.

What I didn't like
It DOES NOT change the fact that I still have no clue why this Olympus is separated from the rest of the world!! When was it established?? Why?!?! By whom?!?!?! It will continue to bug me forever even if I know it's stupid to ask, and should just enjoy the freaking story.

What I liked
Yet again! Sooooo much better than Fifty Shades!

What I liked
There were actual stakes! Like, Poseidon was actually a potential neurodivergent and his characterization as a sub who NEEDED to give up control was spot on. Icarus was much more slimy by comparison, he had a lot further to go to redemption, and he was a good Dom as a result. You empathize with his utter lack of control over every other aspect of his life. The one time he "slipped" if you can even call it that because it was just as impotent as it was supposed to be, Poseidon immediately called him on it and they communicated and resolved their conflicts and used their roles appropriately.

This is in direct contrast to Hades and Persephone, when I was disappointed they were too likable. Poseidon was supposed to be likable and he was absolutely adorable from the start. Icarus was supposed to be shady. The only issue here is that the book is dual POV so there was no nuance as far as guessing if Icarus had ulterior motives, no surprises, no twists. I suppose some people might like that. Just FYI.

TL;DR
At the end of the day, what I liked far outweighed what I didn't like even though there were still some issues in my eyes. Love Poseidon, like Icarus (I would be more than willing to read more of their story, to see if Icarus continues to prove himself a good guy). I wish them the happiest of happily ever afters and equally important, I'm glad to have read more of the complicated workings of this world (in a less complicated way than in Dark Restraint). A solid addition to the Dark Olympus series!

“Sweet Obsession” is Katee Robert finding their original groove of the Dark Olympus series. I feel like their strongest books were Neon Gods, Electric Idol, and Wicked Beauty, where each book primarily focused on the couple at hand and then the city plot line was second. Some of the middle books flip-flopped the priority and made them feel weaker, but Sweet Obsession rights the ship (pun intended).

I loved that I thought I knew how the power dynamics were going to be after reading the content/trigger warnings, but upon reading I was surprised. It was nice to feel surprised even after 8 books into a series. Icarus being the dominant was a surprise considering he comes across as a huge brat. Posideon submitting to Icarus was a pleasant spin considering the position of power he holds.

I think I’m ready for the series to be over, and I say that with a heavy heart. While the city take over is intriguing and I am desperate to know how it ends, the plot doesn’t move too much in each book, and it feels a little stagnate. While we might miss the story between a few characters, it could be condensed into just one or two more books to resolve. Maybe a final battle in two books from multi POV.

I’m still going to keep reading bc Katee Robert tells a great story.

This series has easily become one of my favorite. I have mentioned before that I love the retelling of Greek Mythology with what feels like a Gossip Girl spin. (Yes, showing my age)

Sweet Obsession focuses on Poseidon and his connection to Icarus. First off, the things I liked:
1. It was nice to finally learn a little more about Poseidon. He has been a bit of an aloof character through the series and not much was known.
2. Icarus makes my heart bleed. You know he was abused by his father, even if not just physically, so you can imagine how his self-worth has definitely taken a hit.
3. Zeus and Hera make a few surprise appearances and you still are left with this dumb look on your face...will these two ever get it together?

Now, about what I didn't like...Intensity. Each book in the series has been pretty intense. Either with what is going on in Olympus or what was going on with the characters, I usually was left holding my breath. For Poseidon/Icarus, I enjoyed their story but it lacked a little of the punch to me. Don't get me wrong, I loved the book. I am just used to a little more HMMPH when it comes to Katee that I just didn't get from Sweet Obsession.

Is it worth the read, YES! Just don't be let down if the steam factor isn't there as much or you aren't left on the edge of your seat. This was more like the title suggests, SWEET.

Thank you Net Galley and Katee Robert for an ARC copy for an honest review.

This was my first read of Katee Robert and my first MM read. I was totally impressed by both. Yes I know it’s not ideal to start a series mid way through but I couldn’t resist the description and I was not disappointed.
Icarus and Poseidon are the unlikely match you didn’t know you needed. Icarus is Poseidon’s captive, though for all intents and purposes it never seems like Poseidon wants it that way.
There’s a sensuality to Icarus that you can feel. He’s confident in who he is and when that meets Poseidon’s rigidity (pun intended) it’s fireworks. This read has a major dominance theme and I really love how the submissive character maintained masculinity while allowing themselves to submit. MM is super hot, paired with dominance and it’s probably one of the steamier things I’ve read lately.
Now I guess I should go back and read the first 7 before this book so I’m ready for the next one!

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the Publisher for the eARC

This book is the eight installation to Katee Roberts' Dark Olympus series and we are finally getting deeper into the main storyline and we are left wanting to know more about the fate of Olympus and of Circe. The story revolves around Icarus and Poseidon, two people from opposite sides of the "war". I enjoyed getting to see a more "subdued" (still has tension don't worry!) aspect of Olympus, away from the glitz and glam of the city and into a more personal side of one of the most elusive members of the Olympians.

I think people of this series will continue to enjoy it, and am excited for the next book!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC!

An immediate yes that I devoured in under 24 hours. This latest entry in the series delivers on both the politics and the heat I’ve come to love from KR, both done exceptionally well. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

I have to say that I never know how I’m going to like the next book in this series. Overall I love the series, it’s definitely got me several times along the way, but some individual books in it have not convinced me. This one however, was surprisingly good, with good chemistry, good plot, good pace and good action at the end. I liked the glimpses into Poseidon the most since he has been a full mystery the entire series. As for Icarus, I liked that he gets some redemption and a second chance. Another thing to note is a Ioved the involvement of both Hera and Zeus, I can’t wait for their book which is the next one.

I've loved every other book in the Dark Olympus series and was thrilled to get this as an ARC! I've wondered about Poseidon's story so I was happy to see this one was his! This one also had me looking to the last two in the series. I devoured the other books and this was no different - I read it in one sitting! I've already recommended this series to others so I definitely will with this new one! Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Katee Robert's Dark Olympus series has so many twists and turns that I'm honored to be able to read this book early! The passion she has for telling tales that are inclusive, heartbreaking, and heated all at once is truly a gift. And OMG that twist. I loved it!

I really enjoyed the 8th installment of the Dark Olympus series! I loved the relationship between Poseidon and Icarus, and the storyline for the overarching series plot. I am looking forward to books 9-10 to find out how this saga ends!
