Thank you to Sourcebooks and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book.

I have told myself a hundred times that I would stop reading this series. I am a fantasy reader and generally find romance boring. I found these books downright offensive at times. And yet, I request every single one I see on NetGalley. I don't know what voodoo powers Katee Roberts has to make me unable to stop reading these books but I can tell you I don't love them and I wouldn't recommend them. Once you start, you simply cannot stop, unfortunately. The one gripe I normally have about this series is that the romances are so freaking quick. They often love each other before the first 100-page mark. It is unbelievable and so repetitive. Katee Roberts tries so hard to make every book stand out from the others by creating unique kinks and relationship scenarios but it all feels like too much. Again, romance is not my preferred genre, but if I had the choice, I would take out every relationship in these books and just read it for the plot. I do generally enjoy the discussion on power dynamics prevalent in Olympus and the veil that separates them from the rest of the world. If the romance had more of a focus on yearning and love rather than lust, perhaps I would feel differently. All of that being said, I will of course be picking up the next book. Someone, please save me. 2/5 stars.

One of my favor rite things about this series is the interconnected storyline. Being able to follow the story from Poseidon and Icarus was fun. They brought a new dynamic to the table that was different from the other couples but just as entertaining and heart warming. I loved that two broken souls found happiness in one another.

The war against Circe is still on going, but I am excited to see what happens in the next book.

I had a lot of fun reading this book. I initially wasn't too sure about the dynamic of captive/captor falling for each other, but it worked for the book. I am looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book in this series.

This was a very heartfelt and sexy romance that goes perfectly in this series and also gives us insight into other characters and some of the main plot as a whole.

I am a fan of the Dark Olympus series, so when I got the opportunity to read this book, I was beyond excited. This is the story of Poseidon and Icarus, the story of captive turning into a lover. While this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I enjoyed the storyline. Yes, there is spice, but there is spice in other Dark Olympus stories. I did not find this book to be long winded and it kept my attention.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for the e-arc of this book.

Sweet Obsession is the seventh book in Katee Robert's Dark Olympus series. A series which has followed a different set of main characters from far and wide across the vastness of Greek Mythology, re-telling and re-imagining their stories and who they are told with. Mixing things up from time to time, just to keep things interesting. We're given a brand new insight into the lives, secrets and darkness of the citizens of both the upper and lower cities but more specifically of the 'Thirteen' and their close ones. Familiar names and their subsequent stories we have come to know since our childhoods from Greek myth have new life breathed into them, and its Katee Robert who provides said breath.

Way back in its beginnings, the Dark Olympus series hit the ground running with a strong, dominating and mysterious opener. Neon Gods , headlined by the God of the underworld himself, Hades, who was partnered up perfectly with his soon-to-be obsession, Persephone. These two and their stories we are--those of us with a fascination for Greek Mythology--are already familiar with them. However, for those of us who are not already familiar with them or their origins, you are about to meet them under a whole new set of situations and circumstances that will firmly cement them into your minds where they will take root for the foreseeable. At least, that is what happened with me. Since starting the series with them, they remain firmly unforgettable and floating around my mind, whispering subtly now and again to crack their story open one more time.

Seven books on, Hades and Persephone have stepped down as the main feature of the series. Though they are not too far away, making appearances when relevant. Other players have stepped forward to take fictional centre. Ladies and gentlemen, your ensemble for this dark play so far are:

💙 Hades 𝑥 Persephone (Neon Gods)
🩷 Eros 𝑥 Psyche (Electric Idol)
💚 Achilles 𝑥 Helen 𝑥 Patroclus (Wicked Beauty)
❤️ Apollo 𝑥 Cassandra (Radiant Sin)
💜 Hephaestus 𝑥 Aphrodite + Adonis 𝑥 Pandora (Cruel Seduction)
🖤 Orpheus 𝑥 Eurydice 𝑥 Charon (Midnight Ruin)
❤️ The Minotaur 𝑥 Ariadne (Dark Restraint)
🩷 Poseidon 𝑥 Icarus (Sweet Obsession)

Katee has kept a list of who is who, and who appears in which book in full--including spoilers for books nine and ten--over on her Instagram account. Take a look if you'd like to see, for the most part, who is part of the series in its entirety. Additionally, you can sign up for her newsletter which keeps you in the Dark Olympus loop at all times.

If, like myself, you have followed the series book by book from where the story started--when everything was still very much unknown, unseen and remained a complete mystery as to those within the thirteen and lives they lead--you will be fully aware of just how much has changed since then. Some lives and fates have rapidly changed, while others are slower or still incomplete as to their fate as of this latest story. Some people and their fates remain in the shadows, waiting for their moment of destiny, which will now come to them sooner rather than later with only two books remaining. The world of those who live within and outside the realm of Olympus, their fate, lies in the hands of those who will either bring total oblivion, a new reign of terror or something else entirely. Who survives? Who will see things through until the end? Those answers lie no longer ahead of us, but directly ahead.

Icarus, instead of flying too close to the sun that looks down over all, fell instead. Did he land somewhere soft? Safe? No. Not in the slightest. He landed, quite literally, in the clutches of Poseidon. Sea god to Olympus and one of the thirteen right at the time when instead of easing into the laid back life of a captive, both are on tenterhooks as Olympus teeters even further towards the point of inevitable destruction. That and the fact that the eyes of his captor don't look at him with rage or disgust, but with lust, passion and hunger.

Being one of the thirteen at the time when the city's darkest hours are approaching, Poseidon doesn't have a lot of free time. That free time is even less than it was, now that he is both captor and babysitter to Icarus. Unfortunately for him, he has absolutely no choice in the matter. With Olympus now officially at war and Icarus being a bargaining chip within said war, it falls to no one other than him to keep the little chip safely tucked away.

Lines start to blur for Poseidon the longer that he spends with Icarus, with feelings of loathing slowly turn to those resembling care and affection and the realisation that Icarus might not be the enemy that he has always portrayed to be and that he has thought of him to be, too. Vulnerability emanates from his every pore, and that isn't something Poseidon can easily fight or ignore partially or entirely.

Soon, Circe and the Aeaens are no longer on the horizon but are at the very gates of Olympus, poised and ready to strike and topple the city once and for all. For Poseidon this means one thing, to do one thing that he has been putting off until the hour is almost upon him where he has no other choice but to make the hardest of decisions. Does he think of himself and his long-cemented allegiances first? Or does he think about the man who has stolen his heart and sail away with him to safer shores?

Either way, one of them will end up broken.

With the closing of Dark Restraint, we were left on a bearable cliffhanger as to the fate of Icarus and Poseidon as we watched The Minotaur & Ariadne sail to safety. How and why that came to be, you'll have to read their story to see. Cliffhangers from books 1-9 are going to be inevitable as each piece of the puzzle is slowly slotted into place but as previously mentioned, they are bearable because there is more to look forward to so that we aren't dangling off the cliff, but instead safely toeing on the edge of it. Glimpsing ahead at the horizon, mulling over what we've just read and theorising what is yet to come. That is the brilliance of Katee's writing here with this series. We're left sated, satisfied and edged all at the same time, and we love it.

Choppy waters have now become a constant unsettled pattern of unpredictable ups and downs as this leg of the adventure leaves things in a precarious place where quite literally anything could happen next and as the saying goes, 'everything will usually get worse before it gets better'. If those that thought that they have been through tough times before (or have somehow escaped contributing towards saving Olympus entirely, their time of sitting back comfortably), the time has come for them to think again as they must pull up all of the reserved strength within them to turn towards the foe and prepare for the impending final battle where all will be won or as its looking right now, lost.

Leading us there, where we will be metaphorically standing shoulder to shoulder with those who will actually partake in said final battle, is not in fact any of the characters who we have come to love and champion as they've been dancing between life, death and fate, but the mistress of their and their world's creation, Ms Katee Robert.

See you all in book nine, Tender Cruelty

once again, katee fed up in this new installment of the dark olympus series. my favourite thing about it (beside the many zeus & hera crumbs) is how the plot is starting to be very “eat the rich” like. I love seeing a political statement woven in the plot. especially knowing the author

this book felt a bit like a filler, which in a way is understandable. it’s not my fav in the series just bc this book didn’t accomplish a lot during most of the story. we circled back a lot, zeushera were there but so much mystery is surrounding them still, the romance wasn’t as thrilling as I expected it to be and bc I was so focused on the plot that the part of the story wasn’t something I really cared for (even if poseidon was the CUTEST). but once again it’s really understandable bc the two biggest stories are following

NOW GIVE ME TENDER CRUELTY PLS

When the Dark Olympus series began I loved the first few books and was excited it was going to be a 10 book series. Now, I’m ready for it to end. The insta love between Poseidon and Icarus felt very rushed to seem believable. I’ll continue the series until we get to book 10 but these last few releases feel like fillers.

Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for the ARC!

I am a major fan of this series, so I was excited to get the approval for the latest in the Dark Olympus series! I have not read the last few in the series, so I thought I would be lost, but luckily this one was a standalone and I could follow along pretty easy. This book was great! Showcasing the love story between Poseidon and Icarus, this book followed the characters in the enemies to lovers trope and I was not disappointed. Can't wait to see what comes next!

Thanks again for the ARC!

This wasn't my favorite in this series but it did give us a side of Zeus I hadn't expected. I truly have loved this character from afar for so long and I can't wait for his book! That being said, Icarus and Poseidon were adorable together. I've always had a head cannon that in the original myth Icarus is actually saved by Poseidon or another minor god of the ocean and he now lives happily under the sea. This felt like that head cannon manifested. The epilogue was really cute too. I was glad to see them reunite and for Icarus to learn his true name.

So, even though I probably should read all of them, I tend to skip the monogamous pairings in this series, but decided to make an exception because I was interested to see an MM pairing in this series and because Poseidon and Icarus are not a pairing I really would ever think of. While this wasn’t my favorite of the series, I did end up really enjoying it, especially the power dynamics between the two in and out of the bedroom. Also, I’ve always said one of my favorite parts of this series was the politics and you definitely get that in full force in this book. I’m looking forward to the final few books in the series!

Katee Robert never misses!

The eighth book in the Dark Olympus series focuses on the budding relationship between Icarus and Poseidon while in the middle of preparing for an impending war.

Icarus and Poseidon’s chemistry was so good! Poseidon is truly the gentlest giant. He is too pure and good for the dark world of Olympus. Icarus is used to manipulating as a means to survive, and I loved watching Poseidon slowly soften Icarus’s hard edges.

The action in this one continued to ramp up as we get closer to the series conclusion, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

This book was definitely something haha.

I really liked the mythology inspired characters and I did like both main male characters. However, I did feel like their relationship was a bit off? I cant really pinpoint what it was that I was missing, but I just felt very disconnected from it and the whole insta love setting just wasn't it for me seeing as it started as a captor /captive setting. Which also didn't really make sense to me seeing how it developed from the beginning. The spice was nice and well written!

I was also a bit confused about the entire war plot. But it obviously wasn't the main focus so it was oki. The book itself was quite plot driven and I felt like there were two different stories going on and I had slight difficulties connecting them. But this might just be a me issue.

Regardless it was a fun experience and im looking forward to read Zeus and Heras book next!

Thank you to the author and netgalley for an advanced reader copy. All thoughts are my own.

This book did a good job of continuing the Dark Olympus series while also giving us a good romantic pairing between Poseidon and Icarus. We get to see some more action in the challenges that Olympus is facing while Poseidon and Icarus fall in love while the former holds the latter captive. Even in this predicament they find a way to fall in love and I liked the relationship. They seemed to see each other without the masks they wear for the public. And with any Katee Robert book there was plenty of spice.

I love this entire series! Every character has grown and re shaped themselves throughout, and maybe no one moreso than Icarus. I loved the way Posidon just gave him the space to do that, while he gave Posidon the space to explore his kink.

Katee Robert might be the only author who can keep me engaged in a *10* book series. I'm honestly pretty ready to wrap up Dark Olympus but I'm still here!

Sweet Obsession was stronger than books 6 and 7, imo. It was a slow start for me, but once Icarus and Poseidon actually started to fall for each other, I was invested. Both of them were relatable and I wanted a HEA for them, more than any other couple in this universe.

Poseidon is head of the shipping and imports into Olympus. Icarus is Minos's son, pay off the faction that has been bringing drama to Olympus. Though Minos never trusts Icarus with any truly important information, since he thinks Icarus is such a screw-up. But at the end of the previous book, when the major drama goes down, Icarus sacrifices himself for capture so that Ariadne can pursue her dreams. Then Poseidon becomes his jailer and caretaker... and eventually his sole object of interest.

There's something very sweet and almost innocent about the relationship between Icarus and Poseidon, at least after the early days of Icarus playing things up.

I appreciate the honesty and care they show each other once they've gotten to know each other. It takes time to get there, of course, but the clarity and lack of game playing and half truths that can plague too many book characters is refreshing.

I think I liked this a little more than Dark Restraint, and the one before, but they're still only good not back to great yet. I do want to see more of the series, because I love the political scandal and strain that Olympus is dealing with. The series long drama there just keeps getting more interesting.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy via NetGalley in return for sharing my thoughts on this book. I will say that I took longer to download this and while I did do so, I opted for the audiobook again. Thanks to the author and publisher for this opportunity!

This is so far my fave book of the series (which i say with every book but i digress). Our Poseidon, ADHD king, literally was fantastic. I love him, protect him at all costs!

I truly love and enjoyed this book. The political plot and world building has come SO FAR over the course of the series, and it just made this book all the juicier. Leave it to Katee to give me a plus sized character, and make all of the sexual interactions sexy, and not uncomfortable. I loved it so very very much. Can't wait for the next installment in the series!
