Sweet Obsession is about Poseidon and Icarus and the relationship that forms between the two while Icarus is being held captive(ish) as war looms between the other gods and goddesses
I have not read the series in order, and while it did lead to a little confusion about the larger world and its players (there is zero recap), most of the interactions between the main characters feels sort of separate. That said, the physical relationship between Poseidon and Icarus seems to develop really quickly. I would have liked to see a little more romantic development outside of the physical. Despite not reading in order, this book did make me curious about the other 7 books and what has been going on for other characters listed. The idea that the gods play a certain role (ex. this is A Poseidon, not the ONLY Poseidon) and that it seems to be a contemporary setting are interesting takes on a mythological retelling.
Thanks to Sourcebooks Cassablanca and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.

This is a modern day retelling of Poseidon and Icarus.
Icarus is being held captive by Poseidon while the thirteen attempt to strategize how to battle Circe and her navy that are threatening to take down all of Olympus. What started out as using Icarus to gather intel quickly turned into a new power dynamic behind closed doors.

Sweet Obsession is the 8th book in the Dark Olympus series and while it still follows the overall plot line of the series, the book focuses on the Captive x Captor relationship between Icarus and Poseidon. I’d like to first start off by saying OMG I LOVE THEM SO MUCH to simply get some of my excitement out of my system before I dive into why I fell head over heels for these two men.
Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I’d like to address that I initially thought their relationship dynamic would turn out differently in terms of who was the more dominant of the two, but was overjoyed when I realized how wrong I was. Icarus and Poseidon have me down bad, and for a minute there, I was in fact crying at the gym, but we’ve bounced back and I’m currently on a high after finishing this book. Did I mention how hot they are?
In terms of the plot, yes some of our questions were answered, but they have been replaced with brand new questions that I simply can’t wait to find out the answers to in the next two books!

I am a die-hard Katee Robert fan and the Dark Olympus series is one of my all time favourites so diving into this was no hardship. The tense events of the previous book that saw our two main characters, Icarus and Poseidon, thrown together guaranteed a wild ride and the overarching plot of the series reaching treacherous heights made turning every page feel like balancing on a knives edge.
Right off the bat, I loved Icarus and Poseidon's dynamic and they've been one of my favourite stories to date. While you could call this an enemies-to-lovers story, it was hard to find any true enmity between them, in the best way. I feel like they were pre-disposed to be soft towards each other from the start, recognising certain truths in the other that made true hate impossible.
Their story is rocky yet tender and I wept for them and their vulnerable, quasi-doomed love story. Yes, it has the pure smut we know and love from Katee's work but even in the darker, dirtier moments, it was breathtakingly beautiful. I always enjoy this authors books but this one catapulted it's way to my top 5.

We are gearing up for the finale, only two more books to go. Yayy!!
It was a quick spicy read i finished in one sitting. I love how book by book the plot is getting heavier. I have made my peace with insta-love in this series, so it didn’t pose a problem for me. Icarus & Poseidon were precious together. Poseidon was a wild card. By all the snippets from the previous 7 books, I’d never pegged him to be gentle and submissive. Icarus was the perfect sassy match for him. Their communication skills>>
I am looking forward to Zeus & Hera book. Enemies to Lovers? Bring it on!! Their crumbs have me guessing how their story is gonna unfold. I am already announcing my favorite couple. Hear me out!!
Tropes:
☞ MM romance
☞ Plus-sized Hero
☞ Opposites attract
☞ Captor/Captive
☞ Icarus & Poseidon retailing
Thank You NetGalley & Sourcebooks for ARC.

Honestly, Katee doesn't miss.
Her books are amazing, really well thought out and I love the world building that she has put into this series. Every time I finish a book in this series, I am always bummed that I can't read the next one.
I do feel that as this series progresses it has gotten more plot heavy vs. spicy time heavy, which isn't bad but something to keep in mind as you progress through the series! I also think that timeline was QUICK in this book. Very fast paced so it left me in a whirlwind of "oh okay this was a quick way to fall in love", not unbelievable given the circumstances the characters were in, but definitely quick.
Like in all of her books, she nails character dynamics and development, I totally buy that these people exist, and her inclusivity is always to be noted. Very sweet dynamic between the two MMCs and loved reading about them! I of course will recommend anything that she writes, and she is an automatic buy for me for every book.

Absolute perfection. This is the first in this series I’ve read & I was able to understand the background plot without having to read the others which was very nice. Icarus & Poseidon were everything. Both of their walls breaking down for each other & learning each other while in the middle of this war with Circe. I was scared there wasn’t a HEA for a hot second but we got that at the last second. I really need to read the rest of this series now cause this was just utter perfection.

Katee Robert books live up to the hype! Her newest addition to the Dark Olympus series, Sweet Obsession doesn't miss. I came for Greek mythology and romance and was not disappointed. I will definitely be continuing this series.
Getting a deep dive into Poseidon and Icarus' characters was exciting, getting to see into their heads and past their own wall was a treat. This book made me want to believe in instalove. It had me hooked from the first page. I loved this enemies to lovers plot line and choosing your own path. It was so good!
I can't wait for the next book! If you've enjoyed any of Katee Robert's books I would def recommend picking this up! Thank you to the publisher for providing an advanced readers copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was lovely. I love the world that Katee has created and the different twists on Greek myths.
I've read most but not quite all of the previous books in the series. I really appreciate the MuseWatch headlines as a recap for everything that happened previously. Such a clever and fun way to handle that! Despite it having been awhile since I last read this series, I was immediately sucked in and the characters and dynamics all came back quickly.
I really enjoyed the development of the relationship between Poseidon and Icarus. The way they balanced each other in general and of course in the bedroom was fantastic.
Thanks to NetGalley, Katee Robert, and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the ARC!

Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks for the arc. I was thrilled to get a Dark Olympus arc because I love this series.
This picks up right where Dark Restraint ended, with Icarus in Poseidon's custody. I really enjoyed getting to know who Poseidon was, and also the info we got about his short-lived relationship with Demeter. I live for Demeter crumbs and am still holding out hope that she's a redacted in the final book. Also loved seeing more of Callisto/Hera because what a bad ass. This book only made me even more excited for Tender Cruelty.
Back to Sweet Obsession, this was a more plot heavy entry, which makes sense given how the last book ended. But there were still lots of fun times had between Poseidon and Icarus. As always this was very insta love, the entire book takes place over like a week max. Katee Robert is the only person who makes that work for me. It's a real skill, in this one I really felt the relationship development and it didn't feel like insta love even with the compressed time frame. I really recommend this one, and the series. We're in the home stretch now and I'm so excited.

AND WE FINALLY HAVE POSEIDON’S STORY!!!!
I mean, I’m still desperately waiting for Zeus’s lol BUT I feel like Poseidon has been the elusive character for the entire series and we FINALLY get to not only meet him but get inside his head??? YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
This book was fantastic. I truly enjoyed watching Poseidon and Icarus grow closer out of their protective natures. I loved Poseidon’s caring and nurturing side—but also his need to be taken care of…something he likely has never admitted to anyone before Icarus came into the picture.
I also loved the overarching plot of the entire series coming to a head in this book. We finally get to find out what brings the walls around Olympus down, what it means for the Thirteen, and what they’re going to do about it.
I’m also loving all the cameos of the couples we’ve gotten to know throughout the series. I love seeing them after their stories have concluded, and I cannot wait to see how they all come together (or wage war lol) in the next book.
Don’t miss out on this story:
- MM
- Sub/Dom
- Greek mythology reimagining
- Captor x Captive
- Opposites attract

THANK YOU KATEE ROBERT FOR GIVING US MM
YOU ARE ICONIC FOR YOUR SPICE AND WE DONT DESERVE YOU
Okay this was SO good! I’m so excited to reach the end of this series but I don’t want it to be over and lemme tell you we are getting to the end and I’m so excited

Rating: 4 / 5 ⭐

Once again, I was completely pulled into the world of Dark Olympus.
Stay with me. Love me.
I instantly liked Poseidon;it’s not that I didn’t like him before but after learning more about him I was in He’s really too good for The Thirteen. Icarus is apologetically who he is and I appreciate that about him. I adored his character arc and think it was incredibly well written.
The chemistry between the two could have transitioned a little faster to seem less awkward. This might be one of my favorite relationships out of the series and we’ve got options. The captor/captive dynamic also played out in an interesting way.
As always, I enjoyed world-building and the cast of characters. You’ll see some familiar faces but I don’t wanna go any more in depth and risk spoilers. Honestly, if you like the series you’ll be happy with the newest book.
Thank you Katee Robert, NetGalley and SourceBooks Casablanca for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I think this is my favorite of the series and it will be hard to top. While the ongoing saga of Olympus unfolds we are given a sexy, steamy, endearing romance for the ages. I cannot praise this story enough. It also left me very excited for Zeus.

I was so looking forward to this book and I did not disappoint. It was enjoyable and funny and spicy and stressful and cute and just all the things. I don’t understand how each book gives me a new person that I say is my favorite.

Sweet Obsession is fantastic, but can’t be read as a standalone. The romance between Icarus and Poseidon is one of the best of the Dark Olympus series. Sweet Obsession also does two things that needed to happen at this point in the series. One it brings us firmly back into Olympus’s politics in the upper city. Two, by giving us more Hera and Zeus, and finally letting us meet Circe, it sets the hook for the final two books in the series.
At the end of Dark Restraint, Ariadne and The Minotaur are able to escape Olympus when the barrier falls because Icarus has taken Poseidon captive on the dock. That situation is quickly reversed with Poseidon becoming Icarus’s jailer. One of Poseidon’s men takes initiative and tortures Icarus to get more information about Circe, which Poseidon stops. Now Poseidon is a caretaker as well as a jailer, and Icarus decides it is to his advantage to seduce him. There is a danger when a relationship goes from manipulative seduction to romantic love that there will be a magical D. After all, Icarus is an accomplished seducer, why would he be so foolish as to fall in love with his target?
Katee Robert is too accomplished a writer to fall into that trap, so what we get is two characters taken by surprise. We get a buckling knee that changes everything. Poseidon flips the script on the power dynamics of their burgeoning relationship. Icarus, who knows better, is cracked open and real feelings are formed. I bought the insta love because Katee Robert gives us a mental emotional and physical foundation for it. Icarus and Poseidon are both tired of the games that have dominated their lives and the pressures created by Circe’s blockade make for an emotional crucible. I’ve enjoyed the Dark Olympus series, but I think this might be my favorite Katee Robert book since Your Dad Will Do.
I was always going to read the whole series, but I’m more interested now in how the next two books are going to resolve the overarching plot as well as get these relationships to a happily ever after. The politics are politicking hard in Sweet Obsession. As members of the Thirteen are scrambling to save the city and/or their own people, the structural problems in the system that gives the Thirteen their power are highlighted.
I received this as an advance reader copy from Sourcebooks and NetGalley. My opinions are my own, freely and honestly given.

What to say, what to say… this was… fine.
It’s a character driven book with focus on spice. There’s some story but I felt myself not caring about the story at all. It doesn’t seem to be properly thought out and it definitely wasn’t the main focus here. But that doesn’t matter. It was an easy to read little enemies (that never really act like enemies) to lovers and all in all fun.
I did enjoy it, it’s a nice book to read in between books with complicated worldbuilding, as this had basically none.
The whole „Greek mythology“ thing is kind of random, because at the end of the day the characters and places only have names that come from Greek mythology, however they’re not gods and it not set in what Olympus is supposed to be. It’s just a city named Olympus and characters like Zeus, Poseidon etc are simply job titles in this world.
I have to admit however that this is the 8th book in a series of standalones and I have not read any of the others, so maybe I was a little more confused about the world it’s set in that I would’ve been if I’d had read the others. But it also didn’t matter much, as I mentioned it wasn’t much world building here and so I could pick up on the setting rather easily.
All in all, I’d recommend if you like a little easy-to-read, spicy little gay romance.

I love the books in this series even when they get absolutely goofy and this volume is no different.
The author's note says that this is Robert's first gay love story and I think they did a great job with these characters. This one isn't a kink that I enjoy and I always feel like the romances in these stories are very quick to develop. But once you suspend your disbelief a little, these are fun and political stories that I enjoy every time.
For a quick, spicy, fun time read you can do no wrong with picking up a Katee Robert and Sweet Obsession is a fantastic addition to their backlog.

I'm in love with this whole series! I have loved Greek Mythology since reading it in my 8th grade English class. Katee Robert takes my love of mythology and triples my soft spot for it. Through her updated story lines, she takes the characters & stories we know & love and creates it in a world that resembles our own. I was engaged from the very start of Poseidon & Icarus's journey. Such an intriguing story!
Icarus is part of Circe's team & they take down the wall that has protected Olympus for centuries. Poseidon has captured him & needs to figure out how to retrieve the enemy's plans for future attacks. The attraction between these two characters is strong. As you read, you keep hoping there is a way for Icarus & Poseidon to figure out their paths. You will definitely root for these two enemies to become lovers! The struggle between doing what's right for everyone & doing what's right for you is constantly popping up in Sweet Obsession. It's a constant struggle that we humans deal with & watching it play out between these two characters makes them even more humanistic & not just gods.
