This is such a hard book to review. I want to go on and on about what it's about but there's so much in this little story that I don't want to give any spoilers on. I also feel like if I try to explain anything or even give a brief summary, I won't do the story justice.
To say I loved this story, is a bit of an understatement. I DID love it. I loved the author's writing and I love how easy it was to connect with these characters. As friends, Mikhael and Sawyer have a unique bond and it was interesting to see this bond as platonic even though it was so obvious how much they were in love with each other. I loved how much loyalty there was between them and it was intriguing to see how much the situations they were in really distorted them but also made them more determined to the point of finally acting on their feelings.
I had two issues, though. For one, I hated how Sawyer reacted when he found out Mikhael was dying. I hated that he was already grieving when Mikhael was still clearly alive but wouldn't even consider spending Mikhael's last moments with him. I hated that he wouldn't even grant Mikhael his dying wish. My second issue was the ending. It was SOOO SWEET and I loved how it ended BUT I didn't like how much time passed. I mean, I felt like their story was just beginning yet... it was also just ending with how much time had passed so it's hard for me to envision a happily ever after that'll last years to come.
In the end, though, I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and the faith they had in each other. I loved how engaging the author's writing was. I hope there's a sequel eventually because I really want to know where things go from here.
