A wonderfully illustrated picture book showing the importance of dads. Little Sebastian is a tortoise and his dad points out all the wonderful things other dads help their children with, letting Sebastian guess which animals he's taking about. In the end, Sebastian knows he has the best daddy of all.

The Best Daddy of All, written by Peter Horn (translated to English by Johanna McCalmont) and illustrated by Jessica Meserve is a sweet picture book that focuses on what the "daddy" animals of different species do for their children. This is not only a heartwarming book for parents to cuddle up with their children to read, it sneaks in knowledge about different animals and encourages young children to use the clues given to help figure out which animal is being described. What a wonderful book for dads! We have lots of books focusing on children and their mothers, and the nurturing "daddy" books are finally beginning to catch up with them! A wonderful gift for a first father's day to be or a daddy to be.

Jessica Meserve's artwork is both realistic and whimsical, with seamless transitions from each different animal to the next. Some pages are full-page illustrations while some are broken down into more detailed panels to show the progression of the story more clearly. All of the illustrations combine a warm, cheerful color palette with technically realistic renderings of the various flora and fauna to create an immersive experience for small readers and adults alike. I especially loved the variation between close ups and wide angle views, giving the reader a sense of being both participant and observer to the story.

Many thanks to NorthSouth Books and NetGalley for the chance to read and review this e-galley.

A book about daddies and all the wonderful things they do for their kids.

I really love books that show rich relationships between fathers and their children. I also love beautifully illustrated children's books. This book combines both, with breathtaking and whimsical watercolor illustrations that take this beautiful book about fatherhood to the next level. My children - HUGE fans of their own dad - loved this story about all the different animal dads and the sweet message it gives about fatherhood. The illustrations add a lot more context to the story, as well as foreshadowing - and my children enjoyed guessing and anticipating which creature "daddy" would be featured next based on the hints featured in the illustrations. We also all enjoyed how the animals, once featured, followed the tortoises as they moved on to the next animal. Since my partner loves reading books with our kids at bedtime, this is a book I am definitely planning to purchase as a Father's day gift for our children to give to him and show their appreciation for all the things their own dad does.

Amazing illustration that captures love and joy and the story is charming.
My 4 year old was engaged into the story and tried to guess too. We enjoyed the book and loved it.

Oh my goodness! This book is stunning! The illustrations by Jessica Meserve lead you into a magical ethereal world. The watercolors are so beautifully done they feel luminous. I'd buy this book just for the art of Jessica Meserve alone.

The story is precious of a turtle dad and his son talking about other animal daddies. This is a sweet book for a father to read to his child, especially for bedtime. Off to see what other books Jessica Meserve has illustrated.

I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher North South for the opportunity to read and review The Best Daddy of All by Peter Horn.

Thank you to NetGalley and NorthSouth Books Inc. for the e-ARC of this title to read and review. This is such a sweet story that celebrates the many fathers of the animal kingdom. Daddy Turtle gives clues about which animal dads do what things for their babies, and kids can guess along with Baby Turtle as they read to see if they know which animals he's referring to. The illustrations are delightful, and I loved the range of animals and facts that were included!

Sebastian, a young tortoise, follows his dad as he explains what animal dad's do for their children as he walks through the grass. The dads all play an important part in their children's lives by showing them how to do things. This is a great book of the relationship between Dad's and their children. I would highly encourage dads to read this to their young children ages 2-6. The illustrations are fantastic and the colors make it very visually appealing to read it closer to night time as they are not overstimulating.

Thank you to NetGalley and NorthSouth Books for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book is beautiful! The illustrations are very pretty and the story is perfect for little readers learning about different animals.

Sebastian is playing a guessing game with his Daddy, it is perfect for the little ones to guess the animals too. From the sweet story to the soft warm colours, this book is perfect to snuggle up with and read to your child.

We had lots of fun guessing the animal that Daddy Tortoise was hinting at, and afterwards we gave Daddy a big cuddle.

Title: The Best Daddy of All
Author: Peter Horn
Brief Description:
A beautiful picture book that follows baby tortoise with daddy tortoise seeing what other dads do with their babies.

Review:
This is such a cute book that follows a baby and its dad where they talk about what other dads do. It is written in a way that is easy to understand and educational. The art throughout the book is detailed and beautifully done.

I believe this books takes a little more understanding, so the ideal age would be above 2 years old. The art in the book is cute and sometimes funny, so younger ones can enjoy and be entertained, but might not hold their attention. I got emotional towards the end of this book. It’s such a great way to say dads are always there for you! The story rhymes slightly but not in the way that you think you are reading a Suess book. I really loved it and can’t wait to add it to our little one’s library!

Having grown up without my father in my life and going on to marry a man who is the most hands on father, this sweet book made me so happy. The message in this book is really beautiful and shows the vast array of ways dads show their love.

This is a very cute book! As it is read to a child they will likely enjoy guessing which animal daddy tortoise is taking about. I know my kids would! I think it is also nice to have a book focused on dads as I usually see them more focused around moms. The illustrations have lots of detail in them as well.

This picture book has gorgeous, colorful illustrations, and the story follows a little tortoise who is out on a walk with his dad. They talk about things that dads do for their children, and the father gives different clues and prompts to help his son identify different types of animal dads. Kids can figure out each riddle with the little tortoise, and can call out the answers.

The story is just the right length, and I like how it celebrates dads while also teaching kids about animal behaviors and habitats. This book is sweet and heartfelt without feeling overly sentimental, and it is a wonderful story for kids and their dads to enjoy together.

This book has the most beautiful illustrations and the story is cute, loving, and pattern based which was a huge hit with my two year old. We enjoyed this book immensely and will be on the lookout for other books by Peter Horn.

I'm obsessed with this cute little story about a son and father tortoise as they venture out and talk about all the wonderful things fathers do.

I absolutely adored the illustrations in this story. The cover art is beautiful, and that quality continues throughout the book. I especially love the subtle artwork hints about which animal father will appear next. My toddler had a lot of fun guessing along with the little tortoise and was very proud when she got one correct. The typography in this story makes for a fun read-aloud, and I would definitely recommend this story to other mothers.

Charming story of a dad and his son. Daddy Tortoise offers riddles so his son, Sebastian, can figure out the various dads in their area. He guesses correctly each time until his dad gives him a hard one. It includes several parts but Sebastian is not stumped and guesses his own dad - the best daddy of all. Gentle text offers readers a chance to guess too. The illustrations capture the joy of life for each type of animal, and the love between this dad and son. A delightful book to share as a family.
