The Environment, written by William Anthony and designed by Danielle Rippengill, is a fantastic non fiction book which discusses the topic of the environment and how we can all be brave when standing up and looking out for it. This book explains activism and helps the reader learn how to look after the world we live in. It features inspirational individuals such as Greta Thunberg and David Attenborough. A brilliant little book for the primary school classroom and a must have for your child’s bookshelf.

The environment by William Anthony is an amazing picture book for children to learn more about the importance of activism and nature. The inclusion of Greta was the best part! Though I feel personally the illustrations could have used some work.

The Environment is a good primer about the importance of caring for the environment, examples of environmental activists, and how it's important to do things, even if they are challenging. I liked that many important concepts were explained with definitions and examples. The illustrations and graphics are also bright and cheerful.

I really liked the concept of this book and there is a lot of good information, but it felt like it was not actually catered toward its stated audience. This is definitely a book that younger readers would need to consume with an adult who could provide further explanations and context. Several of the activism activities also did not seem age appropriate (example: starting a charity). The most appropriate activity was planting plants, but kids would probably still need some adult help to make that happen.

Thanks to North Star Editions and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.

This book covers topics in environmental activism, with examples of notable community members. It includes valuable content such as prompts for activities like creating a protest sign, writing a speech, growing a plant, setting up a pretend charity, creating a documentary about the environment to create actionable change.

A wonderful informative children’s nonfiction book about the environment and what kids specifically can do to improve it and make it better. I think it’s written in a very good way that children would understand. The glossary and going into the definitions of certain words during the book was a great idea. I also think the pictures and images inside will be very helpful to children and help them envision the impact they could be making.

In a very kid friendly way, this book explains to children why the environment needs protecting and different people who have been working on that. Using those real-life examples, kids are then presented with steps they can take.

This is a great book with fantastic information and lovely illustrations. While the information is child friendly, it really glosses over how the average person is not contributing that much to climate change and that changes need to be made at national and corporate levels. The book also leans strongly to the left and could cause controversy in some environments.

This is a fantastic book to gift to children in your life but there are books that separate the environment and activism that are a better fit for my library.

Thank you to North Star Editions, Maple Bay, and Net Galley for the DRC. All opinions are my own.

I thought that this book was great!

The book has a lot of information and it covers quite a few different topics within the subject of the Environment, including Environmental Activists, Climate Change and Extinction including some of the people that have been pioneers and leaders in this area including David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg, who have both been very successful in highlighting the plight of the planet, and the various animal species within it.

There is a great glossary at the back of the book to expand on some of the words used which is a great touch for kids. The book is well written, it is well laid out and easy to follow. The illustrations in the images used in the book are great and help to break up the text too. It is a great book to use as an introduction that can then be used to look further in to the different areas.

It is 4.5 stars from me for this one, rounded up to 5 stars for Goodreads and Amazon - highly recommended!
