I found this book to be a little amateurish in style. Abrupt writing, it felt rushed, the main character is not interesting and I could go on but I won't DNF for me.

This thriller had a great plot. I always wonder about the thousands of people surrounding each other in apartment buildings. So if something extra creepy starts happening right across from you what would you do!
The momentum was building all the way through and I got more and more ansgty about who was innocent and what was happening.
The growing sense of unease for Salem was written really well. And I was stuck between wanting to shout "stop digging" and "just make the connections!".

The Apartment Across the Hall is my first Jack Dane read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. A dark psychological thriller, it embodied a good mix of horror and crazy and kept me on the edge of my seat and quickly turning the pages.

Salem moves into a tiny apartment in NYC that she finds with the help of her one and only friend. Though small and almost non functional, she is happy to finally have found a place to call her own. That happiness, however, is short lived. Loud television at night, creepy neighbor guy across the hall always covered in blood and threatening her, and neighbors who are most unwelcoming, Salem starts to question how "lucky" she really is.

The writing was so good you could actually feel the desperation turned to determination in Salem. The storyline was unique and interesting and the details were vivid and plentiful. The story keeps you guessing until the shockingly good ending. I will definitely be checking out more from this author.

Thanks Netgalley for the free ARC! I really didn’t enjoy this novel. The first chapter was great, thoroughly engaging and suspenseful, so I was very excited to receive it. However, starting in chapter two things went downhill. The writing became repetitive and dull. The protagonist was always hyper emotional(shaking, quivering, etc…) although there was nothing even happening. Unfortunately, this book was not for me and I was not able to keep reading.

*I received an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.*
The Apartment Across The Hall by Jack Dane is a page turning psychological thriller that is filled with twists and turns. When Salem Ripley finally finds an apartment within her price range in New York City, she doesn't care that it doesn't look like the photos the landlord sent her. Who needs a working stove anyway? She's just grateful that with her past she managed to find something at all. Salem has little to her name and time on her hands, so when she meets her tall dark and handsome neighbor across the hall, she begins to take some sneaky peeks through the peephole in her door. But sadly Victor seems to have a girlfriend... or three? Why does she never see any of the girls leave Victors apartment? And what is with the blaring television in another apartment next door to her? Like clockwork every night a cacophony of gunshots, police screaming and pounding in doors, vibrate her walls. What is going on in this apartment building?
This was my first novel by Jack Dane but I was hooked from the beginning. The suspense escalates beautifully throughout the book, never letting up until the conclusion. And what an ending that was! The way Dane writes this narrative is brilliant, weaving intense moments with just enough backstory so you get a full picture of these characters. Definitely a must read for the psychological thriller lover!
Thank you to NetGalley, Jack Dane and Back Alley Press for this ARC. Expected publishing date is January 3rd 2025.

At first, I was a bit unsure about the book since it kicked off kind of slow, but once the pace picked up, I found myself really enjoying it. There were plenty of twists and turns that kept me engaged. I loved the different perspectives, and the short chapters made it easy to keep reading. I was totally cheering for the main female character the whole time. As the story unfolded, it became clear that nothing was quite what it seemed.

They say you can’t pick your neighbors… but can you survive them? When Salem Ripley moves into her apartment in New York City, she’s disheartened to find it isn’t exactly like the pictures. Still, with her past, she’s lucky to find a place at all. Her neighbor across the hall is tall, dark and handsome. After seeing his beautiful girlfriend, Salem can’t help but obsess over the couple and their perfect life. Then Salem sees her neighbor with another girl. And another. And another. The strangest part? She never sees the women leave! Wow!! This book had some really crazy twists that I did not see coming! It had great suspense, gruesome murders, mystery, and a fabulous who done it! The story was very interesting! I highly recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

Twisty and intense with layers of secrets - no spoilers here - gives the nosy neighbor new meaning. You will read it in one afternoon, because you will just have to see what happens next.
