This is the story of a highly pregnant woman Tegan. As she tries to get her life in order she heads out to visit her brother- only to end up in a car crash.
But help comes in the person of a nice couple. They take her in and care for her- kind of.

What follows is Freida McFadden at her best: twists, tention and many 'oh-no-moments'! Bit by bit we get to know the whole picture and what stands behind the actions of our protagonists!

I really enjoyed listening to Leslie Howard narrating this tense story!!

Thank you #NetGalley #Dreamscape Select , Hollywood Upstairs Press for this audiobook

If you’re looking for a book you can’t put down this is it.
If you enjoy Frieda’s book you will most definitely enjoy this one. The narrator voices holds you to the story which is great.
Honestly this book so gave me Misery vibes. I could even picture Kathy Bates as Polly. I don’t know why but I honestly feel like that’s why I enjoyed this story much. It is my favourite of Frieda’s novels now.
I loved the twists that kept coming even tho some you kinda saw coming. But this is one that I will most definitely recommend to others.

➳2/5 stars

I’ve always been a fan of Frieda’s books, and I was so sure I’d love this one too, until I actually finished it. Honestly, this book felt like a repeat of The Boyfriend, her last release. I was beyond excited when I started it, but by the end, I was so disappointed. The entire story felt like a chaotic nightmare that led to a mediocre and predictable conclusion.

The plot twist? Let’s just say it wasn’t hard to figure out, and it honestly had me rolling my eyes. I don’t mean to tell Frieda how to do her job like she has written some incredible books that are absolute bangers, and I’ve been her fan for a long time, but her last two releases have felt so unlike her usual work.

Just like The Boyfriend, this book kept me on edge the whole time, only to deliver a twist that was way too easy to see coming. Even though the storylines are different, the predictable execution made them feel oddly similar. Frieda has so much talent, and I know she can do better!

➳ ABOUT THE BOOK —

This book follows Tegan Warner, a 23-year-old woman who’s pregnant and traveling to meet her brother in another town. But fate has other plans, she gets into a car accident and crashes into a tree. Thankfully, she’s saved by a man named Hank, who takes her to his home. Sounds like the start of a rescue story, right? Well, not quite.

Hank’s wife Paulie, who happens to be a nurse, tends to Tegan but not in the way you’d expect. To say she keeps Tegan captive would be putting it lightly. Despite knowing the risks of not giving Teagan proper medical care, she couldn’t care less about her condition. But just when you think all hope is lost, the story takes a turn, and somehow, this wild ride wraps up with a happily-ever-after.

➳ ABOUT THE CHARACTERS —

Now, this might come as a surprise, but Tegan Warner is the only FMC I’ve read in a thriller who actually had a functioning brain. Even after everything she went through, being in a car accident, being pregnant, and having a broken ankle, this girl fought tooth and nail to save herself and her unborn baby. Her determination was incredible.

Sure, she made a few dumb decisions here and there, but they were easy to overlook because most of the time, she did what was best for both of them. What I loved most about her was that she never gave up, not even once. Her resilience made her the only tolerable character in the book, and honestly, I couldn’t help but root for her.

As for the couple who “saved” her...where do I even begin? Hank was essentially described as a human Bigfoot, massive, giant, and large. We get it, he’s huge, but did it need to be repeated every other paragraph? It was more annoying than anything else.

And then there’s Paulie...oh, Paulie This woman was infuriating. The lengths she went to for her selfish desires were downright disturbing. I get that she suffered losses, and I sympathize with that, but let’s be real, dealing with grief doesn’t give you the right to make others suffer. Her actions were beyond cruel, and I hated her guts for it.

➳ ABOUT THE WRITING—

I’ve always loved Frieda’s writing, it’s simple, easy to read, and always manages to keep you hooked from start to finish. This book was no different in that sense. From the moment I started, I couldn’t put it down. Her storytelling has this undeniable grip, pulling you in with every chapter.

But then came the plot twist, and...well, it left me disappointed. I had high expectations, especially knowing what Frieda is capable of, but this one just didn’t deliver the way I hoped it would. The twist felt underwhelming, which made the overall story lose some of its charm for me.

That being said, there’s still something about Frieda’s books that I can’t resist. Even when the plot doesn’t hit the mark, the way she writes keeps you invested, turning the pages late into the night. That’s the magic of her stories, they reel you in and refuse to let go. For that, I’ll always be a fan.

°˖➴ "Overall, if you’re in the mood for a thriller that keeps you hooked from start to finish, this could be the perfect pick for you, especially if you’re already a fan of Frieda’s work!"💌

I am a huge fan of Freida! I love the twists! I kept wondering why Sadie was mentioned and that was quite a twist! I love the feeling of hopefulness when you finish this book. I'm not a Hallmark warm and fuzzy person, but this gave those vibes at the end and I was cool with it!

I loved this audio book so much! I am trying to get into audio more and it's been challenging. I guess I'm picky with narrators but with this book the narrator was excellent!
Freida had lots of suspense, and made me want to cheer on the bad guys as much as the good guys. Shes always full of twists and it just makes you not able to put her books down! Thanks for the arc audio!

Thank you so much to the author and Netgalley for providing me with an audio ARC in return for an honest review. All thoughts expressed are my own.

I found the first 50% and final 20% of the book gripping but that middle 30% were quite repetitive. Because of that I was getting a bit bored. I really liked that it was dual POV between Tegan and Polly and the narrator did a good job of distinguishing between the two of them. At first I found it quite predictable what Polly would actually do but I was so focused on that one that I completely missed the twist about who caused her car accident. None of the characters are particularly likeable and I found Tegan quite irritating at times but I liked that none of them are completely good or bad. This was the first book by Frieda McFadden that I've read and, despite my incredible frustration about the plausibility of the story and some of the characters' actions, I really enjoyed listening to it and I look forward to reading more from her in the future

I really enjoyed the twists in the story! It was great to see even some of the more troublesome characters make positive choices at times. It was interesting how characters you thought would be heroes sometimes took a selfish turn and hurt others. It added so much depth to the story!

This was a fun read! If you enjoyed the Housemaid, I think you’d enjoy The Crash. I found certain parts to be unrealistic and a bit repetitive, but a fun read nonetheless. Thank you Dreamscape Select and Netgalley for the early release copy.

This was an interesting snowed in thriller. Compared to some of Frieda’s other most recent books I enjoyed this one a lot more. The story and pacing was good. Per usual there are a few elements that you have to have a lot of suspension of disbelief for (like A LOT), and some of the twists were predictable but I enjoyed this!

This was a great book and my first Frieda McFadden book, so I’m eager to read some of her others. The pacing was good, character development was great and with all the twists and turns, it definitely surprised me. Despite the surprises, I was happy with how each of the story lines wrapped up in the end.

Unfortunately this freida book left me feeling a bit ,'meh' and flat.
The plot line I'd a good one and as always it is superbly written but after a few chapters I found it very repetitive and somewhat boring. Nothing really happened that hadn't already been said in the previous chapters. Not your normal thing for this author.
I found the main character super annoying but Polly was a good character and freida captures her personality well Her husband, Hank needed a good slap! I found him jolly wimpy.
The end came and went and I was just underwhelmed overall.
Not my usual review for freida. But I'm more than sure there will be many of her fans who do love it
It's an average 3 from me

Don’t start listening this too late at night or you may not get any sleep. Definitely a nail biter. You may think you know who the good guys are even if Tegan doesn’t know. But, then again you may be wrong!

Another solid slow-suspense thriller by Freida McFadden. Tegan is 8 months pregnant and while driving to visit her brother, gets caught in a blizzard where she crashes in a remote area and is stranded with a broken ankle. A passerby comes to her rescue where he brings her home to get treated by his nurse wife Polly until the roads are clear for the hospital. They bring Tegan to their basement to rest but it’s clear something isn’t right in this cabin and with every minute that passes, Tegan and her unborn daughter (her little “Tuna” ) are in serious danger. With no way to call for help or leave, Tegan will have to do whatever she can to protect herself and her baby.
I found myself holding my breath throughout much of this novel and read it in one sitting because I just couldn’t stop listening! It gives Misery vibes with its own spin, and in usual Freida fashion, has one twist after another. Between Tegan and Polly’s points of view, I couldn’t wait to know what happened next. The narration by Leslie Howard was perfect.
Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. This comes out 1/28/25.

A woman stranded in a small town during a blizzard takes shelter with a couple who at first, seem above reproach. However, soon she finds that she would have been better off taking her chances in the storm. McFadden is a talented author, but I feel like she’s cranking out books too quickly, perhaps to fulfill a contract with her publisher, and it’s had an impact on her books. This story seems more like a rehash than an original story

"The Crash" is a captivating and thrilling read that will stay with readers long after they finish reading. McFadden's masterful storytelling and the suspenseful plot make this a must-read for fans of the genre.

I binged this in a day. Every time I put it down, I couldn't concentrate on anything else. I kept wondering what would happen next. Some is predictable but a lot isn't. I love Freida McFadden books because something always surprises me. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook

THE CRASH is a fast-paced story that gripped me from the start. In true Freida fashion, she included some pretty big twists which I throughly enjoyed. If you're a Freida fan like me, you will love it. I was lucky enough to enjoy this audiobook, which by the way was excellent.

Many thanks to Dreamscape Select and NetGalley for my gifted ALC.

I enjoyed this book. It had a classic Frieda feel to it. I thought the book was going one way, but it went another! This isn’t my favorite Frieda book I’ve read, but you won’t be disappointed!

The Crash was a great read! I was hoping that this book would reignite my love for Freida McFadden after a few releases that I didn't care for and it did not disappoint! The beginning of the book caught my attention and I was engrossed for most of it. Tegan, 8 months pregnant and headed to her brother's house in a snow storm, was a character that made me question her reliability. As the story unfolds it reveals more about how she came to be pregnant with bits of memories resurfacing. After crashing her car into a tree, Hank a large imposing man rescues Tegan and brings her to his home with his wife Polly. There she is taken care of by Polly, a former nurse, in a hospital bed in their basement. As Polly helps care for the pregnant Tegan and her broken ankle, the promises of a snow plow coming and a trip to the hospital seem to become increasingly unlikely. The characters kept me guessing--is Hank really that scary? Is Polly really that kind? What about this lawyer?

Towards the end it seemed to have a lot of repetition that could have been edited out. However, the actual ending of the story was a great twist. Even if you saw it coming, it is still a fantastic way to wrap up the story.
