Grave Amish Secrets is a quick cozy mysteries style read that takes place in the heart of Amish Country. 50 years ago, a young Amish wife and mother learned her husband "left" her to return to the English World - and this set a course for this entire family.
One by one, each of her children left the Amish faith and had one failed marriage after another. When after 50 years of his disappearance, a body is found and the granddaughter, now cop, is trying to get the the mystery of it all. What secrets lie beneath the well and can past hurts & demons bring healing from the truth? This was what I love most about a nice cozy read - well done!
Grave Amish Secrets by Patricia Johns. When Police detective Penny Moore and her partner Stewart Jones are called to help because of her connection to the Amish. Even though there’s a conflict of interest because they found a body in an abandoned well on her Amish Grandmother’s farm. 50 yrs ago her Grandfather abandoned their family but did they just uncover his body? John’s has a way of intertwining the character’s emotions with the past and present. They have been partners for 3 years but their connection goes beyond just being partners. Can they solve this murder and heal old hurts? Suspense, Murder, Romance, and healing. Must read!
Narrated by Liz Fodor. She did absolutely amazing on this book. Really enjoyed listening to her.
Thank you to #NetGalley, Author #Patricia Johns and #Harlequin Audio for the Arc book. This is my honest review.
I loved this cold case with Penny and her partner Detective Stewart. Many questions on family history and how it affects generations. The interesting details in Amish life.. Laced with humor, and self analyzing moments for both characters, I wrapped around this story . I loved Stewart's parents, the banter, and his mom match making focus.
The narrator was average. A couple of times she forgot to switch voices with the change of characters, but overall a good audiobook.
Phenomonal! A Love Inspired Suspense Stand Out as far as I’m concerned as it is quite different from their usual concentrated action novels. Don’t get me wrong, I love those high octane, flying bullets, exploding cars kind of stories too but I also enjoy variety in my romantic suspense and Patricia Johns delivers that here. Such a rich, compelling read!
Love the police procedural vibes from the very start. And the deep, abiding friendship between Penny and Stewart. They’ve been working together for three years and in that time have developed such a tender connection. Totally platonic. Neither has ever considered anything romantic…until midway into this story. (happy sigh!) If you enjoy the friends to more romantic trope this one is stunning!
As is everything else about ‘Grave Amish Secrets.‘ Solid inspirational threads; interesting insights into the Amish community; stupendous personal growth in the main characters; an intriguing cold case. And Johns delivers it all with thoughtful consideration and impeccable pacing. A thoroughly captivating romantic suspense.
I enjoyed listening the audio edition of this book narrated by Liz Fodor who did an amazing job with these characters – especially Penny’s Amish mammi! Such a pleasure to spend my ‘reading’ time listening to this wonderful story.
My thanks to Harlequin Audio and Net Galley for providing me with an audio copy of this book.
This is an Amish Romantic Suspense. I listened to the audiobook for this book, and I found the audiobook to be good. I really enjoyed the mystery parts of this book, but I did not feel the connection between the two main characters. Overall, I liked this book, but it was not my favorite. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
I received an ALC (Advanced Listener Copy) of this audiobook from NetGalley & Harlequin Audio

I didn’t have any expectations going into this book, so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this fast-paced story. I am fascinated with the Amish community so books like these are right up my alley.
Detective Penny and her partner get called out to uncover who murdered her grandfather who was thought to have abandoned his family over fifty years ago.
New wounds get opened from not only Penny’s past, but her mother and grandmother as well who go through their own gambit of emotions. Believing your father/husband had abandoned the family is hard enough but learning he was murdered is a little more than they could take.
It was surprisingly gripping and had me on the edge of my seat wanting to know who did it. I never suspected.
New narrator for me Liz Fodor did a great job giving voice to this unique and interesting story. I will be looking up both the narrator and the author again.
