Alanna by Kathleen Bittner Roth is definitely a unique and interesting historical romance! I did enjoy the murder mystery subplot, and thought it added to the intrigue, but other parts of the story were lacking or felt unbelievable. I would have liked more character development earlier on in the story, and felt the first half to be rather boring at times. I liked Wolf in theory, but did not really like the way he behaved sometimes. And Alanna's martial arts training and mentor were both kind of a strange addition for me. I'm left feeling a little meh about it all.
