This is book three and a half of the Cursed Princes series by Marina Myles.

There are some days my brain just can’t handle the heavy books. So I dug this out of my ARC archive and gave it a go. It was a mere 65 pages but I was intrigued by Constantin and Karina enough to let their story settle my uneasy brain.

This story really grabs you. Karina is only looking to take a bit of food from the overabundance in Lord Draven’s house. But when she is caught, Constantin’s brother takes the fall for her. Constantin feels obligated to be the fall guy and takes his brother’s place as a servant in Lord Draven’s house.

When they were younger, Karina was playing in a tree and when she jumped to escape it, she fall into the waiting arms of Constantin and thus shattered his leg. He had trouble walking ever since. Karina had healed herself of her injuries using her Gypsy magic but Constantin was too hard headed to let her assist him. This situation put her on the outs with both Constantin and the Draven household.

This book is short but it gives you a glimpse into what Marina Myles’s writing is like. If you are into a bit of a gothic love story this is definitely your jam. It is complex and sweet all at the same time.
