That was the best 9 hours that I’ve ever spent with audiobook indeed!

I’m into thrillers, detectives and every other genre which is somehow connected to solving the riddles. Sure enough it’s something fresh: easy read though very complex and intricate!
Especially I liked that It’s not overextended which often happens with the books in this genre.

I really believed that I solved it in the middle of the book! But guess what - I changed my mind a couple of times after that! The plot unfolds like a complex puzzle, each twist and turn more shocking than the last.

I truly recommend this book if you are into thrillers!

I enjoyed all the twists of the book but I personally struggled to get into the slow burn of it. It could be a reading slump, could be the narrators, or maybe the story line. I would like to read other books by the author and listen to this again at a later date.

So excited that I was chosen to be an ARC reader for this book. I enjoyed the storyline even though at some point it was kind of hard keeping up with all the characters. I feel sometimes important points were missed or jumped over but in all it was a good ready. If you are a fan of suspense and a final who did it then this is the book for you.

Part of my review was going to be about how I wasn't sure why there was so much of the detective's personal life and backstory but it turns out this is third in a series so that makes more sense. Can definitely be read as a standalone though, it didn't take anything away from the main plot.

Eve is the worst psychiatrist you've ever met and honestly it's almost comical as she ponders if she should maybe take time off or see a therapist about the events of the story. She does not.
The story itself progresses pretty quickly and I really enjoyed the little pieces dropped throughout all being tied together at the end. The narrators did a fantastic job.

What a book with twists and turns. I couldn't stop listening. If I have one complaint, it's that I am tired of books where they tell it from each main character's viewpoint. The narrator, however, was good and the characters were very well developed.

This was a good road trip book, it had lots of twists and some interesting characters. This is my first book by this author, but I would definitely check out more many times my husband, and I thought we had figured out who who the antagonist was, and we were wrong almost every time. I did not know this book was part of a series, and I will be checking out more books in this series. I really enjoyed the main character, detective Rita Myers.

The story was intriguing the first few chapters then it was dragging. It was very slow burn.
Ending was good so as to why I still give it 3 stars

Chilling, twisty, and unputdownable! This is a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you are looking for a suspenseful read, this is the book for you. Do not let this being the third book in the series discourage you. Each can be read as a standalone.

Several years ago, when her car went off the road in a wreck, Eve Thayer was having a rough go of it. Still, the accident may have been a blessing in disguise. The owner of the shop making the repairs to her car turned out to be lovely, and she's since married him and had a beautiful baby girl. They have a nice home and Eve has taken a position at a newly renovated psychiatric facility. Things are looking up.... until they completely fall apart.

I really enjoyed this one! It's definitely a slow burn with lots of moving parts, tons of characters each with their own potential motives, and a number of layers all coming to a head in a well written ending that wraps up tightly. I do think it dragged a bit in the middle and I think maybe some of the Detective's personal life scenes (the family backstory not the potential romance angle) could have been cut to help keep it on track, but it never got so meandering that I considered DNFing it. The ending was really solid and pulled the whole story together in such a way that I felt like the slow burn was worth it and ended up changing my opinion of the book from three to four stars. Definitely recommended for fans of slow burns or of intricate plots.

I think this might be one of the best mysteries I’ve ever read. Why? Because this is one of the only books where I didn’t see the ending coming from a mile away. The whole book I was convinced I knew who the culprit was, convinced I had outsmarted the author like I always do, but DAMN WAS I WRONG. And for that I applaud the author 👏

Detective Rita Myers is thrown into another case. When a break-in is reported Rita does not think much of it. After all, the only things stolen were a few tools from a toolbox. Nothing urgent. But then a baby disappears which sets of a series of unfortunate events. While Rita tries to solve the case she realizes everything happening seems to be linked to one person: Eve Thayer.


This book was phenomenal. Especially the ending. It rarely happens that a mystery surprises me but this one did. To anyone reading my review, all I can say is: READ.THE.BOOK

This book was good. I enjoyed it overall. I think I would rate it 3.5/5 stars because I did find it a bit random and slow at times and a few plot holes. Entertaining but wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

I was able to receive an ARC of the audiobook and it was great! Sadly, I wasn’t fond of 2 of the narrators voices, for some reason they just bothered me, Rita just didn’t sound like a Detective to me & Eve just sounded like she didn’t care to be anywhere. Other than those 2 voices I really enjoyed the story! I honestly, didn’t know where the story was going with all the twists but the ending & main twist was exactly what I thought it was going to be, but that didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed this story! This was just an overall good thriller! I definitely recommend this one!

Watch Your Back is the third book in the Rita Myers series. I requested this book before I realized that I knew I had already started the series. When I realized that I had already started the series, I read the second book before reading Watch Your Back, and I want to clarify that it isn't necessary to do so beforehand.

First, I want to thank the publisher, editor, author, and anyone else involved in making important decisions, for keeping the same narrator throughout a series. It is a huge bugaboo for me when they change narrators mid series. I like the way this narrator has Rita's voice down, and it is just right for her and her personality.

I like the way Terri Parlato gets into the daily life of Rita, that she becomes almost like a friend when I listen to the story. It helps me gets engrossed in who she is, and it makes the story more complete. I know that is not what everyone is looking for in a mystery, but it helps me connect more with characters within the story.

If this is your first Rita Myer's book, it won't be a problem reading it out of order, but it does help make more sense of things otherwise. The series books in order; All the Dark Places, What Waits in the Woods, and then Watch Your Back. But again, it isn't strictly necessary to read them in order.

And if you're not a series person, that is ok too, this book is ok being read as a stand alone too. Solid 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Watch Your Back" drew me in with its eerie cover and chilling synopsis. The prologue, filled with suspense, sets the stage for a gripping journey!

Nate's stuck in the hospital after a nasty fall down his stairs. He can't communicate, but he manages to let us know that he suspects his wife, Eve, might have tried to kill him and could go for round two if she gets the chance. He had come clean about a brief affair, which is now over, but Eve definitely didn't take it well.

The audiobook is a gem! The three narrators, each representing a unique viewpoint, bring the story to life. I've always loved multiple narrators.

Despite being the third book in the Detective Rita Myers series, 'Watch Your Back' can be enjoyed as a standalone. You don't need to have read the previous books to appreciate the twisted plot and well-polished characters.

I’m typically not a fan of novels featuring detectives, but this one was well-written and I wanted to change things up. I enjoyed Rita’s character. She was unique and intelligent. The story itself was full of twists and turns and I enjoyed trying to figure things out and connect the dots. I received an audiobook copy and I enjoyed the use of three different narrators. I think it helped add depth to the story. I wasn’t a huge fan of Eve’s narrator because it felt a bit monotone, but it certainly wasn't a big deal. The domestic suspense meshed very well with the thriller and detective aspects and helped to make this book stand out in a unique way. Sort of a mixing of genres. The big reveal didn’t excite me as much as I thought it would, but the journey to get there was still wild and fun. Overall a solid read.

Watch Your Back was a slow burn. While all the details in the beginning build the story and make sense in the end. If you like the way Frieda McFadden writes there's a good chance you'll enjoy this book too. I only gave it 3 stars because I prefer my mystery/thriller books to be constant suspense.

A police procedural with an intricate plot, told from three POVs with a lot of side characters and red herrings throughout. The pace was a bit slow for me, but there were lots of secrets to unravel along the way. The big reveal at the end surprised me, and I enjoyed that twist. However, the addition of a particular accomplice felt superfluous to me. I don't know if I missed something earlier on, but it didn't make sense to me. I didn't even recognize the character's name at all. The audio version had a different narrator for each POV, which was why I requested this book. I had difficulty with the narrator for Eve, because she kept her voice so calm the entire time, even when Eve was super stressed out or scared. The narrators for Rita and Nathan were spot on.

I think the idea of this story was decent, but I lost interest along the way so that by the end of the book, I didn't even know why I was still there.

I listened to the audiobook version which seemed to be a big mistake. The voice of Rita was absolutely cringeworthy and took away from the story. The narration of Eve was equally bad in a different way. It was so even keel and without emotion, like she was high on something the entire time. These things made getting through the book very, very difficult. Personally, I think the story could have been better, which would have made it so the narration wouldn't/couldn't have ruined it. I would not recommend the book, and certainly not the audio version either.

The story was an unputdownable domestic suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat right from the start.

The audio was excellent & the 3 narrators: Nick Mills; Christina Moore; Rebecca Quinn Robertson, along with the 3 characters points of view (The husband, the wife & the detective) & twist, really kept me engaged & invested and anxiously wanting to get to the end to find out what was going to happen.

Loved the writing style of this book & my first by: Terri Perlato and I am now a fan.

Although this is book 3 of the "Detective Rita Myers" series, this book can be read as a stand alone.
