This continues to be an amazing series. I enjoyed the world building and characters. The plot is intriguing and kept me engaged in the story.

Hmm. I really wanted to bop Man and Estrella on more than one occasion and it pulled me from the story in places. I wanted more from the plot instead of getting some repetition.

Yep, still love this series more than life itself.

If you're looking for an Estrella/Caldris focused book, you're going to be disappointed. If you're looking to finally see Mab in all her horrible glory and continue to see Estrella come into her own--you're going to have a great time and want to throw things.

Estrella's character ARC (and self-awareness of it) up through this book is SO GOOD. She acknowledges her past way of thinking, how she was wrong, and uses it to fuel her empathy. Which she doesn't lose, even with Mab being the wooorrrssstttt. And Mab? Love her as a villain. I love her characterization, I love her cruelty (which is vast and limitless, but still within believable limits) and the pieces of her backstory we get along the way.

During this reread with the rerelease, I've read them all back-to-back to this point and it's been SUCH a good experience--you really get a fantastic picture of Estrella's growth and just how far she's come since trying to escape from the Wild Hunt in book one to preparing to take down the most evil creature the world has known by book three.

AND we've got 3 more books?? I can't wait to dive into the fourth one IMMEDIATELY for more Caldris (aka best book boyfriend ever) and Estrella shenanigans.

This book is the perfect amount of fantasy and spice.
The world building was great and the characters had depth. There is plenty of magic, mystery, and tension!
The immersive setting and unforgettable characters keep the pages turning.
This book is a whole vibe. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was fresh and interesting.
The writing style itself is great, and I will be reading more books by Harper L Woods.

With no choice but to play the games of the Fae, Estrella and Caldris are now trapped within Queen Mab's court. As they find ways around the queen's control, Estrella learns more about herself and her magic. She also learns more about the mate bond and how it can benefit them both. But of course, now that she's ready, the queen has taken the option away.

With unlikely allies, Estrella is learning that in order to slay the monster, she may need to become one herself. But she doesn't want to give in for fear of not returning. Although she has been able to show her true nature and unsettle the queen, she is still not in control, and will not be able to avoid the queen's wrath for long.

That cliffhanger ending, omg.

2.5 stars

I really tried to stick with this book because I was hoping the plot would finally come together and get more interesting, especially since it’s the third in the series. Unfortunately, it ended up being extremely repetitive. The constant arguments and battles between Mab and Estrella got so tedious that I found myself skipping pages. The story really needed more plot to keep it engaging. I was hoping for a lot more plot progression, but instead, it just felt repetitive and stagnant. There was barely any explanation of the magic system, and overall, we didn’t learn much new information in this installment. Honestly, it felt incredibly boring.

Thank you to NetGalley, Tor Publishing Group, and Bramble.

Sometimes books in a series become repetitive and that is what happened with What Lurks Between the Fates. I love the authors writing though so I'll finish the series because I do think, despite this being the weakest book so far, it is worth continuing.

The story continues in the fun fantasy series with fae, romance, and more! This book is a darker read with a few trigger warnings you shoud absolutely check before reading. I do think that this book felt much more like a filler book than an actual progression in the story. The first 40% kinda was slow and then it just felt a bit repetitive from the last book. I did like the second half of the book and am hoping that next book picks up immediately. I feel like this book could have absolutely been shortened or at least be made into the final book and have whatever book is next be mixed in with this because you don't need a lot of it. While i say all this, I am looking forward to the next book and hopes that it picks up the pace. *Thank you for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

I loved this book and I love this series, but I must admit I was slightly disappointed. Estrella is such a strong female lead so much of the time, and then sometimes she goes and makes such a stupid decision that it feels completely out of character for her. I'm sure the last book in the series was planned around this and will resolve any confusion or negative feelings, and I still did very much love this book for the most part, but it's just a little disappointing.

I really love the mythology in this book, the cliffhanger ending was rough though! It did feel like there was a bit more filler than we needed but we also got more spice so that's a win.

This was my favorite of the series so far. Estrella is finally really coming into her own and making more mature decisions overall.

I enjoyed the change of location from the previous two books, as well as the author's incorporation of more Greek mythology/creatures.

The new characters that are introduced are also intriguing as well as the different rituals scattered throughout this book.

The last few pages were chaos and the cliffhanger ending has me wanting to read more.

I don’t know why I’m surprised at how wild this book was after having the exact same thought in regards to the first two, but here I sit, still surprised. I also want to mention from the beginning to check trigger warnings for this one as it’s much darker than the first two in the series. My heart hurt for the position Estrella was in throughout this installment. I did enjoy that we were able to get more answers on Estrella overall. I also thought her development was really well done in this installment with Estrella really coming into her own. It’s no shocker that I also really loved the continued relationship development between Estrella and Caldris. Give me a morally grey/burn the world down for her MMC, and I’m sold every.single.time. I would love to lose the “little one” pet name, though. I found the plot pacing for this one to be a little slower than I expected, but it was still enjoyable. I appreciated that we were able to get more information on the lore on politics which helped offset the slower pace for me. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Will not be continuing with this series as I did not enjoy the first book.

Thank you for the earc.

This felt like filler. I wasn’t as invested in this book as the previous two. I feel like I could probably skimmed a lot and not missed much.

I was excited to receive this title because I love this series. The pacing was nice and I was never bored. This felt more like a filler or braiding book.

Review: Holy smokes! This book is dark, gritty, intense, hot, spicy and oh so swoon worthy! The story ramps up a lot when Estrella is taken to the Shadow Court under Queen Mab’s rule.

Four words…Estrella is a BOSS! She really develops into a strong and loyal future queen in this book. Seeing her compassion towards the lower fae while imprisoned and her poise when doling out Mab’s requests make us see just how great she is going to be as queen. In this book, Estrella cons Man into agreeing to allow her and Caldris to solidify their mate bond (even though Man refuses them to do so) and she proves just how formidable she is as an opponent.

Caldris’ chapters were my favorite part of this book since we get to see him start piecing together Estrella’s parentage. I loved how alphaholish and feral he went in this book as well. He truly submits to his bond to better protect Estrella and at the same time starts to realize just how truly powerful she is.

While this book is super dark and depicts mental and physical torture and mind games, we also see a ramp up in the spice! Let’s just say the scene with the Tree is a favorite of mine…you’ll know when you read it! Estrella completely gives into her “monster” finally and we see her also go feral for a bit when she claims Caldris.

I am curious to learn who Estrella’s parents are and finally see her inner monster!

This was a terrific read and anyone who loves the PNR, spicy and dark romances will enjoy it!

Rating: 100+, this books leaves you on the edge of your seat wanting more!

I've heard such great things about this series and when I was offered the chance to read them as they were re-released I jumped on it!

So. Much. Traveling. And. Filler.

Im concerned this series is going to be like every other tomantasy series out there where it goes on for too long....

While the premise was nice, the writing was... not what I expected. I wanted more from the characters because I felt that what was on the front cover and the front flap was not what we were given.

Thank you to NetGalley and Tor Publishing Group for an advanced e-book reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. What Lurks Between the Fates by Harper Woods picks up right where What Hunts Inside the Shadows left off and the pace of the book is well done. I did find the relationship between Caldris and Estrella to be slightly cringy at times (PLEASE STOP CALLING HER LITTLE ONE!) but of course the spicy level is five stars. I’m glad I don’t feel any sort of remorse or redemption for the villain - Queen Mab - honestly I’m really looking forward to her inevitable demise at the end of the series. I’m glad we got more of Estrella’s Fae background story but there are still so many unanswered questions so I’m looking forward to more information in the fourth book of the series. As a disclaimer - this one was wayyy darker than the other two!
