This was an enjoyable book. I enjoyed the characters. The dialogue set the pacing. The plot was tightly woven to keep me interested in all aspects in the telling of this drama.
A Haunting is Brewing combines Juliet Blackwell’s Haunted Home Renovation series with her Witchcraft Mystery series. I haven’t read any of the other books. Although this is a fairly short cozy mystery, I must admit that it took about half of the story for me to get a good understanding of Mel’s role in everything.
Mel Turner inherited Turner Construction from her father and reluctantly began a career of renovating old houses. Unfortunately, her reputation for finding dead bodies in old homes has began to overshadow her skills at renovation. Mel can communicate with ghosts. She hasn’t exactly mastered her unique powers but she has gained some notoriety. As fate would have it, another renovation leads to another murder and another ghost. The fact that this all happens during preparation for a Halloween party makes things that much more scary. Plus, there are possessed dolls involved. Not to give too much away, let’s just say that Mel gets help from a witch, a voodoo guy, a dog, and a pig. That should at least make things interesting.
