I love Naomi Lord’s artstyle and have followed her for years on social media. When her first book came out, I was thrilled (and bought it), and I’m no less excited by this one.
The principle is exactly the same: after quick references about drawing faces, or coloring for example, the book is divided by “subject sections” and for each drawing there is a double page (occasionally more) tutorial. It is (of course) beautiful, and only navigating through the pages is satisfying for the eye.
For someone who doesn’t know proportions and isn’t good at drawing, a few things are missing, though. In fact, the “global shapes” and proportions aren’t indicated, only the step by step tutorial. It was already the case in the first book, but now that most subjects are human –and consequently more complex to draw– it becomes more problematic. That being said, after a few attempts I managed to reproduce some of the drawings. I’m sure that someone with a better eye would do great with the step by steps that are truly detailed. For starters like me, however, I would recommend buying book1 first.
Like the first book, I enjoyed this one, and I will be there for book 3, should it exist one day.

I received a free copy of this book. I leave my review voluntarily and my opinions are my own.

This drawing book is absolutely adorable! I loved the charming characters and the artist’s creative designs. While some of the tutorials feel a bit challenging for me, I can already see myself improving with the author’s helpful tips and clear guidance. The inclusion of unique creatures and bonus familiars was a delightful touch that made this book even more special.

This is a great way to learn how to draw Naomi Lord's characters! I found the illustrations charming and the instructions seem to be easy to follow. It did immediately make me want to try it out! This book seemed to be focused much more on following the drawing instructions to get the exact results than instruction on how to improv with your art later, but still that is it all it needs to be. Great instructions and characters!

Thanks to Naomi Lord, NetGalley, and Quarto Publishing for the chance to read and review. My opinions are my own!

This is a very cute learn to draw book. I love the original art. The only criticism I'd give is that the tutorials are pretty difficult! An entry level artist would definitely have a hard time copying the tutorials.

A large number of step by step guides to draw a large number of and diverse characters from famous series.
Cool colour scheme and adorable characters. Best for the fans of the artist, the characters and children.

Very sweet! Like the style a lot! I'm very partial to the frog and witch example characters. I think I was hoping for a little bit about fantasy scenery drawing as well. Taking second pass now, I see "besties" in the subtitle, which should have told me this would be a character drawing-focused book. Personally, would have loved to have had a full experience that could try to get me to create a scene similar to that on the cover and it would have felt like the book delivered a bit more fully on the feelings of the cover.

I've been a fan of Naomi Lord for years and have bought her art work and stickers in the past. Lord's creations strike that perfect balance between cute and recognizable. This book is a great way to learn how to draw some of the figures Lord draws herself. There are 51 creations in total from elves to animal companions. This book features a general overview and then dives into the specific tutorials immediately. Cute Fantasy Art Class is specifically focused on raw sketches and line art, and does not include extensive instructions for colouring. I'd recommend this to people who love Lord's art style and want to learn how to draw figures exactly as she does.

Thank you, NetGalley for an advanced ARC of this book

I read this in one sitting and also I am planning to sit down over the next few weeks to give the steps a go because I brought an art tablet to learn how to do digital art so books like this I am highly interested in to learn from.

The drawings are so cute and the layout I great for beginners like me to follow and learn from

Thank you to netgalley for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I love fantasy books and thinking about characters and how they look, this is the perfect way to learn how to draw these characters and bring them to life. It is really easy to follow and has amazing designs. My husband also loves drawing so he had a go with some of them and he's enjoying it too. Highly recommend to anyone who is wanting to learn how to draw fantasy.
