Because You Believe in Me, written by Amie Dean and illustrated by Maria Diaz Perera, is a nonfictional book written for elementary students and their teachers or caregivers. The focus of this book is helping children recognize what pushes them forward, what helps them keep going when they are facing something difficult or challenging. It gives children examples of times when we all might need support, and how to remember those positive people in our lives and the words they share that help us. It also provides some great tips for caregivers and teachers to remember, reminding them to BELIEVE. I think that this is a helpful book for classrooms and families, and is a great resource for working together.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the author, publisher, and illustrator of this book for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A good book for young children who may be challenged by anxiety and perfectionism. I especially appreciated the tips for parents and teachers at the end. The message of the book is one that all kids could find beneficial— if for no other reason but to understand that some kids may lack the courage or confidence to excel in some areas. A few of the pages had phrases that felt a bit forced due to the rhyming structure but overall it still flowed nicely.
A special thanks to NetGalley, Amie Dean and the publisher for the eARC copy.
I loved the message of this book. As a mother with a child who struggles with self-esteem, I know it is going to help her. I also enjoyed the underlying message to lean on family and friends in times of doubt. I will be purchasing this for my daughter.
The illustrations were engaging and fun.
I highly recommend this book, for all children.
A sweet book that discusses how words have power and can impact the confidence of children. I really appreciate the page of tips and resources.

Because You Believe In Me, with its stunning illustrations and its ability to engage readers, is a perfect read to share with your children. It beautifully expresses that children need support--not only from their parents, but from everyone: grandparents, teachers, and friends. One simple sentence of encouragement can boost a child's self-confidence enough to reach their goals and succeed.
The book concludes with a helpful chart of tips that YOU can use to encourage and empower children.
Because You Believe in Me is a picture book about building self-confidence and trying new things, even if they are hard. I enjoyed the illustrations and how they included different people from our lives and also showed that teachers can look different, too (shout out to younger teacher and male teacher rep). This would be a great bedtime book or school read aloud. The ways to foster self-confidence list at the end is an added bonus.
Thanks to National Center for Youth Issues and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
What a sweet and heartwarming story! As a new mom it’s important to me that I speak to my son in a positive way that fosters self-confidence and this book gave tangible examples on not only how I can do that, but my son too!
