The preview of Four Ruined Realms I received on NetGalley was the first 39 pages (Five Chapters) so while it's difficult to give an accurate rating of the book as a whole, it was off to a great start!

First, I absolutely love that Corland included a sort of recap of the Five Broken Blades. We often get recaps before the next installment of our favorite TV show, so having them in front of our favorite books series is incredible!
The story picks up after the first book's ending, where our group is on their way to steal the Golden Ring of the Dragon Lord from King Joon's sister, the Queen of Khitan. The first several chapters in the preview served as a great dive back into our characters' minds and set the tone for what sounds like a lot of tension and action in the rest of the novel.

Thank you for the preview, NetGalley.
I plan on picking up the entire novel to finish reading!

This preview is a great way to keep me hungry for more! The book was already high on my TBR list but this glimpse into what's going to happen next pushed Four Ruined Realms high up.
And like with book 1, the cover and sprayed edges are beautiful!

I loved reading this sampler of Four Ruined Realms! I really enjoyed book one and am excited to see how the story continues in book two. Mai Corland writes action-packed scenes filled with memorable characters. I will definitely be adding this book to my collection!

Thank you to Mai Corland, Entangled: Red Tower Books, and Netgalley for a free preview in exchange for honest feedback.

This was one of my most anticipated books for 2025, and I sped through this not knowing which way the story would go.

You have this group of characters all morally grey, but also doing what they do justified in their own rights.

Looking forward to the rest of the book. This was a quick little teaser to see what our crew is getting themselves into since that ending from Five Broken Blades. Anxious to see what happens!

This mini teaser was the perfect hit to keep me going until my copy of this book came. It was delayed due to the weather so I jumped in and read this one. A million bonus points for having a recap of the first book, I wish so many other epic stories did this. I can not wait to see what happens in this book, and already have the money ready to pre order the third book.

Four Ruined Realms - PREVIEW by Mai Corland is a tantalizing glimpse into what promises to be an epic continuation of the Broken Blades series. From the first page, the preview delivers tension, betrayal, and a simmering sense of urgency as the blades face their deadliest challenge yet. Corland’s knack for intricate world-building and morally complex characters is on full display, making it impossible not to get pulled into the high-stakes game of deception and revenge.

King Joon’s machinations weave an ever-tightening web around the blades, and the dynamics between them crackle with mistrust, desperation, and the lingering sting of old wounds. Yet, despite their fractures, there’s an undeniable allure in watching these characters attempt to forge a fragile alliance, bound not by loyalty but by a shared thirst for vengeance.

The vivid descriptions of Yusan and the looming threat of Quilimar's rule add richness to the narrative, hinting at a story brimming with political intrigue, action, and mythic stakes. Even within this short preview, Corland’s prose shines, balancing sharp dialogue with poignant character moments.

It’s easy to see why fans would be eager to pre-order their copy—this preview hooks you, heart and soul. If the full novel delivers on the promises laid out here, Four Ruined Realms is set to be a gripping tale of betrayal, honor, and hard-won redemption. After this tease, I’m counting the days to dive back into this treacherous, beautifully crafted world.

A very good follow up to five broken blades. The author built up on all the feedback from the first book and improved this one. Now it’s top notch, although there’s still room for improvement with the descriptions. I would recommend!

Ooohhh loved this preview! I didn't notice it was a preview, and now I have the first book in the series and this book to read. Obviously this one left on a cliff hanger (it's only up to chapter 3/4) but I'm excited for the rest of the book.

The character development and the world building is extremely fun.

Mai Corland's debut novel in the series established her as a force of fiction, and the characters continue to have that rawness and realness, even within the magical realm she has so meticulously crafted. As deserving of #BookTok trending as any of Yarros's or Maas's books, Four Ruined Realms moves the series forward without losing the psychological complexity, grittiness, and worldbuilding that made the first book an unrelenting adventure.
