Christine Caine's Don't Look Back takes a deeper look into Jesus' words found in Luke 17: "Remember Lot's wife." (which, by the way, is the second shortest verse in the Bible, as she points out). The book is divided into three main parts, which on the surface appears relatively simplistic and obvious, but within offer some great insights:

1. Why Moving Forward Is Important
2. Strategies for Moving Forward
3. The Rewards of Moving Forward

Mixed with personal stories, biblical narratives, and insightful application, Caine encourages readers to be cautious of being stuck by looking in the rearview mirror and longing to be where we are not supposed to be. She walks through various things that can often keep us stuck in the past, and how we can practically move forward in the calling of God. In fact, each chapter concludes with some actionable points, which I appreciated. I think this is where the real fruit of the book can be produced is by doing the work advised to live out what Caine is explaining.

If you feel like you are stuck in life, whether that be by shame or guilt or fear or a vast array of other things, or if you feel like the "good ol' days" are behind you and you long to return back to them, this would be an excellent read for you. Personally, I did feel the book was a bit protracted, and I would have preferred even more commentary on some of the biblical narratives over the personal anecdotes, but readers will likely be encouraged and inspired by this book nonetheless.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Books in exchange for my honest review.

A deeply encouraging book. It has reminded me of continuing to look to God as He directs my path. As well as encouraging me to take the things I've learnt and say 'never again' to abuse and coercion to choose to move forward in God daily.
