A perfect complement to Story Time programs and classroom activities teaching the use and function of human emotion, "When the Anger Ogre Visits" is a lovely picture book in all the ways that matter: content, presentation, and intent. Starting with the illustrations, illustrator Ivette Salom has hit upon the perfect combination of visual elements to communicate the story, with a pleasing looseness of style which communicates the actual *feeling* of feelings in a visual way. In terms of content, this book provides just the right balance of text to page for young readers, especially young readers with a bad case of the wiggles. (And who doesn't? Let's be honest.) The text and illustrations combined are perfectly tuned to maintain audience interest for ages two on up. And the intent? Let's just say I'm a huge fan of teaching kids that feelings are valid, feelings matter, and feelings serve a useful biological and social function. Pair this with Disney's "Inside Out" for a complete day of feelings!
