The Quiet Wife by Diane Saxon is a page turning read. Having picked it up I just couldn't put it down, for it is an unforgettable novel that will stir the emotions
Once again Diane Saxon has given her readers a story that
will fulfill their expectations.
For Diane knows how to write and gives her audience plenty to satisfy their hunger, and she doesn't disappoint.
It is a real treat to read any of Diane's amazing work. I look forward to her next book.
My thanks go to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the advanced copy for my honest review.
I received an ARC from Netgalley for my honest review.
"The Quiet Wife" by Diane Saxon is an ok read, but it read like something you'd see in a Lifetime movie. The story follows a seemingly perfect marriage that unravels due to secrets and betrayal. The plot felt predictable. While the suspense is there, it lacks the depth or twists that make it stand out. I did like that the author didn’t describe the sexual assault in gory detail.
Trigger warnings for sexual assault , betrayal,
and emotional manipulation. It’s a light read for those looking for suspense, but not groundbreaking.
thank you to NetGalley for kindly sending me this arc!
unfortunately, The Quiet Wife was just okay. it was very predictable and i found the writing very simple. none of the twists surprised me or did their job. and the title was kind of misleading because, yes, she is a wife, but being a wife had nothing to do with that story and her husband was barely in it.
overall, just left a lot be desired! would be a great book for someone just getting into thrillers.
When i first started this book, I had trouble getting into it then BOOM all of a sudden I couldn't read it quick enough., it was intense, stalkerish at times, a MASTERPIECE!! Well written, I sure didn't see how it ended coming . Most definately recommend
20 years ago, Soriah was assaulted by her classmate Craig. In the present day, Soriah is married and trying to get pregnant. However Craig is being released and Soriah feels that she is being watched. Or is it just her imagination? I like that you get the. perspective of both Soriah and Craig. The story jumps between both the past and present, which keeps the story engaging. Once the first twist had been revealed, I was able to guess the perpetrator. This did not change my enjoyment of the novel. It was a quick read and well written.
The Quiet Wife freaked me the heck out. A stunning several POV book with a killer twist at the end. Highly recommend for thriller fans. WIll be purchasing for libraries.
The story switches between Soriah in the present day in her late 30s, to and from her aged 18 in college. It also switches to other characters' stories interwoven with Soriah's.
We start on the first page with Soriah trying to not disturb her husband when she's having a violent nightmare. Why is she scared about waking him up? Is the nightmare about him?
Then we start to flashback to Soriah at college, which seems to be building up to something traumatic, from when a boy was obsessed with her. Is this what the nightmare was about? Why is she still not moving on 20 years later? What's stopping her? Who is this boy?
This was my first read by Diane Saxon so going in I was unsure if I would like her style but I have to say I loved this book.
There was a continuous build throughout the book and you never felt like you were in a rut. The characters were intertwined into the story so well and I really loved that it bounced back and forth from past to present. I would recommend this to anyone that loves a good thriller
Soriah is being stalked by someone from her past. She is terrified, and it seems her husband, Marcus, does not care.
A book about obsession, denial of the truth and fake friendships.
Beautifully written and triggering.
Monsters come in many forms, it is the human monster that you should fear.
Riveting novel, unputdownable, dark and engrossing.
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the DRC.
Firstly thank you to the publishers for my early access in exchange for a review.
I’ve reviewed a few of this authors books and this is definitely one of their strongest .
Thought provoking and well written
A very sensitive and possibly triggering novel about obessive, abuse, stalking, and terrible relationships. The MFC has been through it all and want to forget the pass but the past is now back to haunt her.
A fast wild ride that was all of the place. The author wrote the MFC as being mixed race but the details about her hair and color seemed forced and written in an unauthentic way, cringe worthy.
The novel had a lot of twists and turns but a times the storyline was annoying as in all the characters acted in childish or unrealistic manners. The husband actions seemed misplaced and rushed with no background to that relationship.
I would recommend to a novice thriller reader.
Thanks netgallery for the ARC!
Who would have thought that The Quite Wife would impress me? When I started reading this book, I thought it would be a usual thriller. By usual , I meant regular plot twist, guessing game and revelation of a secret. But I didn't expect each chapter to keep me curious and plot-twists to give me whiplashes.
The author, knew how to keep us on edge. Two things I loved about the book was that the protagonist was not a damsel-in-distress and how she moves on in life even after facing some horrible issues. Psychopathy level of the antagonists amazes me and it's bone-chilling to read how a human mind can conquer such evil thoughts. Highlights of what misunderstanding, delusion, jealousy and betrayal can do to a person's life and people around them is unbelievable and elegantly presented in this skin-crawling novel. Only drawback that I felt was about the title of this book, I couldn't understand the underlying meaning behind the book-title.
Overall, it is a short book of 280 pages and an absolute pageturner.
I loved this book by Diane Saxon
The storyline is is great and it had me gripped from the start.
There are plenty of twists and turns and the ending is a shocker.
I recommend this book.
Thank you NetGalley for the arc in exchange of my honest opinion.
First of all, it was labeled as this psychological thriller. I was expecting a fast paced story. It was a slow burn with going back and forth between the past and present.
It had great potential but I felt like it getting disappointing after a while.
I know for a fact that Gilly is a horrible friend.
I felt so bad for Soriah. She went thru so much and didn’t have anyone on her side.
Overall it was pretty decent book.
A great psychological thriller. So many twists and turns that I didn't see coming.
Great read for the beginning of the year
Diane Saxon’s The Quiet Wife is a psychological thriller that weaves its narrative through a dual timeline, alternating between the past and the present. The story centers on Soriah, a woman struggling against the tide of bad fortune, whose life takes increasingly darker turns.
The novel opens with a strong, intriguing premise that immediately draws the reader in. Saxon’s ability to craft tension and suspense is evident in the initial chapters, which lay a solid foundation for the plot. However, as the story progresses, it loses some of its grip. The pacing falters, and the plot becomes predictable, with key twists and the ending easily anticipated by seasoned thriller readers.
While the dual timeline is an effective narrative device, the rushed resolution of the story detracts from the emotional and psychological depth that could have made the ending more impactful. It felt as though the conclusion was hastily tied up, leaving a sense of dissatisfaction.
That said, The Quiet Wife has a cinematic quality that would likely translate well to a TV adaptation, where visual storytelling could enhance the tension and bring the characters to life in a way that compensates for the occasional narrative shortcomings.
For fans of Diane Saxon, this novel may not surpass the gripping allure of her DS Jenna Morgan series, which consistently delivers compelling mysteries and strong character arcs. One can only hope Saxon returns to Jenna Morgan soon, as her stories bring a sharper edge and stronger engagement than The Quiet Wife manages to sustain.
Wow this was a fabulous psychological thriller to start of my 2025 reading and a great read for New Year’s Day.
This was a tense and dark read with lots of twists and turns along the way which like with this authors other books make you want to carry on reading and not put it down once you have started.
The story contained some despicable
Characters and covered some serious topics.
I raced through this book, very fasty paced and a great read.
Told in two eras of time we find out the back story while in the present finding things are not quite what Soriah expected.
A fab book, would highly reccomend
