I really enjoyed this book. Ruslan Akulov, aka Wolf Six is an assassin, a Ukranian raised in Russiaand trained in the elite Werewoves division.
On a visit to his bank, he gets caught up in a bank robbery, killing some of the robbers, and coming to the attention of the CIA and Russian Bratva,
He has lots of pressures to work for these people, all the while trying to outwit them, and stay alive. It's very exciting, with lots of interesting characters, travel and plot twists. I liked Wolf Six and his colleague, the Beast. I couldn't put this down.
Thank you for introducing me to this author, I look forward to reading the rest of this series.
Good story fast paced I got lost in all the names but enjoyed the pace. My first spy novel and enjoyed it. Gave 4 stars because had to reread some sections
Amazing!! A Ukrainian raised in Moscow, conscripted into Russia’s most covert Special Forces unit ‘The Werewolves’, Akulov is full of loathing for the country that built and then broke him. The only rules he follows now are his own. I raced through this pacy thriller in two days and it was a wild ride. I had no idea where the author was taking me, but I knew I wanted to follow…..⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fans of Mark Greaney’s Grey Man and Tom Wood’s Victor the Assassin will love this. Wolf Six is a freelance assassin but his origins are rooted in a top Spetsnaz unit. Highly trained by the Russians, his sympathies are with his Ukrainian origins. Wolf Six is very dangerous indeed. A moderately simple assignment goes wrong and suddenly hidden agendas and mysterious entities come into play. Can an apex predator survive being hunted? It’s a non stop thriller, action, locations with no time to rest for either the reader or poor old Wolf Six. The current war in Ukraine takes a slight background here which was odd given the locations of the story and the origins of those involved but the author knows the area well and has obviously chosen to focus on the small picture. I’ve read all Alex Shaw’s books and enjoyed them all, he writes action thrillers extremely well and without a drop in quality. This is obviously set up for a series and I look forward to the next one.
This book was great! It hooked me right from the beginning and was chock full of action! This was my first Alex Shaw read, and it definitely won’t be my last! Totally recommend this book and author.
This was a strong start to this series, it had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed about this type of thriller. I was engaged with what was happening and enjoyed getting to go on this journey with the characters. Alex Shaw wrote this well and was glad I got to read this.
I am so glad that I was given an ARC of this book, the first in a new series. WOW! Wolf Six starts off fast and never stops. Lots of action, moving parts, and great characters. I love how invested Alex Shaw made me in the characters and their lives. It was not just a typical assassin plot. Already looking forward to the next book! Highly Recommend.
Relentless, non-stop action, intrigue, betrayals, switchbacks, murder, espionage, assassins- whew! Never a dull moment and surprises everywhere - if you love international intrigue and action, you are in for a treat.
Great first book in Shaw's new Wolf series
Ruslan Akulov was trained by Russia's special forces, as a young guy, to be
part of their infamous Wolverines killing force. Known as Wolf Six, he was trained
to work missions as an assassin.
Today, he has become an independent assassin for hire with a handler who arranges his contracts.
When he finds himself witnessing a Chicago gang robbing a bank and indiscriminately killing people, he steps into the fray. His skills come full force as he manages to kill almost every single gang member before disappearing from the scene.
The story takes off with interesting and well defined characters who bring great background to the plot and help move the story along at rapid fire pace.
Action, suspense and welcomed retribution.
Exciting new series full of thrills and mystery.
Can not wait for the next one.
It is always good to get in at the start of a series.
A talented young author who came to my attention through his Aidan Snow series has embarked on a new venture.
This is the first outing for Ruslan Akulov aka Wolf Six. It is a promising start and hopefully will lead to many more episodes in this conflicted assassin’s life.
The author has a detailed understanding of Ukraine and a distinct appreciation for that country. This brings a refreshing approach to this thriller genre and adds an authenticity to the overlapping themes and memes surrounding plot and message.
It is an actioned filled and unrelenting narrative of various organisations and government agencies working with and against each other. Seemingly for material gain rather than noble patriotism. I liked the duplicity at work here that largely passes our protagonist by. He is shown to be a person of some moral fortitude and honour while is day job is killing people. In the main the distinction being he will not take on a contract to ‘waste’ an “innocent” party or be so trigger happy that collateral casualties will result.
This internal value and moral judgement seems at odds with his background and criminal associates but those distinctions are drawn out throughout the story.
I found the book fast paced and deserving of being read in one sitting. We call these accounts, page-turners and this one certainly fits that title. In part because it is original and mainly due to its main character. He is constantly placed into danger and his while he can extricate himself from most situations he is constantly compromised by external factors beyond his control.
How he deals with these situations. How he stays calm and overcomes blackmail and betrayal makes you want to read on, to see not just if but how he can get out of situations.
He cannot save everyone but he is resourceful and faithful to his friends and moral compass.
A terrific beginning to a new series, one I hope will spawn many more episodes of an agent we can get behind and a man who can find his true homeland and destiny.
I didn’t know what to expect with his one but it was truly a great read I couldn’t put down. Finished it in two sittings. Really compelling characters and plot. Cant wait for the next in this series
Wolf Six is a great start to Alex Shaw's new series. I really liked Akulov's character when he appeared in the authors previous books and wanted to know more about him. If you like entertaining, thrilling reads that have lots of action, suspense and intrigue then this book is definitely for you. Alex Shaw certainly knows how to connect with his readers through his writing and characters. I was drawn into the story quickly and it held my attention and interest to the end. The writing is good and easy to follow, the plot line is fast paced and moves from past to present seamlessly. I was constantly trying to second guess what would happen next. Akulov takes on what should be a straightforward mission that gets complicated by others with their own agendas and motives. There are lots of threads here that go off in surprising ways where I felt I was unwrapping layers of deceit and subterfuge. I loved finding out more about Akulov, his past, and what he believes in. The ending is very fitting and I hope a couple of characters I really like here are in the next book.
If you like books with lots of thrills and excitement I'd definitely recommend Wolf Six and recommend this authors other books too, they are just as good.
4 stars
I love thrillers that take place in different places and cultures (bonus points for having occasional words in other languages to decipher) and author Alex Shaw expertly delivers that in Wolf Six. The fast-paced action happens in locales such as: Zurich/Vienna, Kyiv, Moscow, Morocco, Havana, Chicago and more. As an educator I appreciate that this book was devoid of course language and explicit sexual content
That makes it much easier to recommend it to my students. Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood, and of course Alex Shaw for this ARC copy to review.
A great fun read!. The story follows Akulov, a former Russian soldier turned mercenary. The story follows him from being in the wrong place at the wrong time to the Russian mob trying to get pay back. The Bravta using him for their goals, the CIA. Lots of twist and turns.
A fun fast paced read, lots of action but still a good story with good character development. Excited for the next book in the series
Alex Shaw hits hard and fast with a riveting story of an assassin forced to go on a murderous adventure all over the world to save a friend. Packed with double crosses, twists and turns, and hardcore action, you’ll enjoy it!
Killing for a living is easy, living for a reason is much harder, Meet Ruslan Akulov. In the shadowy world of assassins for hire, he is known as ‘Wolf Six’!! Good book! This book was definitely action packed! Like a movie! It also had high suspense, plenty of murder, mystery, assassins, action, intrigue, a sort of who done it and some crazy twists! The story was very interesting! I definitely recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

Wolf Six is a great protagonist. As a former member of the Werewolves, an elite Russian Special Forces group, he has been a free-agent assassin (with principals) for some time. He’s taken a new contract when everything seems to fall apart. He’s made enemies on all sides and must put his unique skills on display to survive the Russian mafia, the CIA, and others. Lots of action, and it’s works without suspending credibility.
A racing, action-packed, but thoughtful, page turner.
Akulov, the former top tier Russian operator, now freelance assassin of only the worst of society, is catapulted by his main regret, into a twisted net of violence and deceit, in which he has to rely on his natural cunning to outwit the many who want him dead.
Detailed descriptions of place, and good characterisations add to the well drafted plot. Great reading for fans of Mitch Rapp, Ben Hope and the like.
