This was fine - some parts I really related to and packed a punch, but overall it was just okay. I love the subject, and can relate strongly.

As a newer mom, I love books that focus on this new part of my life, and this was such a sweet collection. I especially loved the poems titled "Day ---" because those non-milestone days are just as important in the growth of a little one, and there are so many small moments we want to remember years from now. I loved the poems that commented on learning from your little one, seeing the world through their eyes, because it's such a real feeling. The only thing keeping me from giving this the full five stars is I would have liked to see more raw poems, more poems that at least acknowledged more of the hard parts of parenting a newborn, when you're trying to hold everything together for this little person because they deserve the world but at the same time your new life is just so hard to navigate at times. All that being said, I think the collection is sweet and definitely captures the more positive parts about adjusting to a new version of yourself, which is sometimes what we new mother need to focus on instead of wallowing in the bad parts.

tbh estuvo bueno, entiendo que esta enfocado en su proceso como madre. Pero no se, tirame un back story o algo, no te pido mucho

I really enjoyed these poems on the power and impact of motherhood. Anyone who has experienced this themselves will undoubtedly be able to relate. It reminded me, again, of how we are changed through the process of pregnancy and motherhood, in ways that cannot be conceived of until you've lived it. That understanding of being almost one person in two bodies, of profound connection with another being, never goes away. I can't help feeling that the world would be a far more harmonious place if those who created life could also drive it.

However, as a mother whose children have had children I can say with certainty there is one concept within these poems which is not quite right:

'Then time whispers, there will be a day he stops reaching for you'

It won't be numerous times in a day, it may not be for weeks, or months, or sometimes even years, but if you have been fortunate enough to forge a profound connection with your child(ren) they will never stop reaching out for you, and you will always be right there.

This was a good poetry collection about new motherhood. What I really enjoyed about it was that there was a constant and consistent theme throughout all of the poems, and the collection flowed very well. Unfortunately, I am really not a fan of vignette style poems, poems that are only 2-4 short lines long; I just don't find them original or impactful. That being said, there were 1 or 2 of the shorter poems that I did enjoy, but for the most part, the only poems I really liked were the longer ones.

My favourite poems from the collection:
- You become my world
- Have you noticed?
- When he laughs
- Something my grandfather said to me (that my bones now know)

I am the target audience for this book—I read it while holding and nursing my baby and related to many of the poems. The poems touch on the wide array of feelings parenthood creates; joy and sorrow, discovering new ways of loving and being loved, losing, gaining, and remaking your sense of self. I read the book quickly but already myself revisiting some of them. Thank you to She Writes Press and NetGalley for the ARC.

Poetry isn’t usually my jam. But, this is a quick read that can be as light or as deep as you make it. As a mother, there are so many emotions that rapidly fluctuate, from love to loneliness, and these short poems capture that. There were two stanzas in particular that I felt put into words how I feel as a mother myself:

“My body,
like my heart,
softens.”

And

“Where is my center now,
having been swept away in you.”

Special thanks to NetGalley and She Writes for this ARC in exchange for my honest review :)

Absolutely beautiful! Wish it was longer!
As a mother to a 10 year old, it brought me right back to the first days and the roller coaster of emotions and feeling so alone and lost. It’s nice to see I wasn’t alone in my thoughts.
I will definitely be recommending to moms to be and new moms!!
