Heat of the Everflame - Penn Cole
🌟 If you enjoy fantasy with a slow burn romance then this is a series you are going to want to pick up! Spark of the Everflame is Book 1, and you will not be disappointed with this series. I have loved that it is plot driven and the world building is phenomenal. The depth of characters and the fascinating history that comes along with this world pulled me in.
🛑 I put my recommendation at the top of this review - because if you haven’t read Spark of the Everflame (Book 1) DON’T read my summary or evaluation! There are heavy spoilers, so if you haven’t read book 1 come back once you have! 🚨
❗last warning - spoilers ahead ❗
📖 Heat of the Everflame picks up moments after Glow has ended. Our Queen, Diem, has been captured and it does not look good for her. You can expect to see more of Luther; you know he won’t leave his queen for longer than he must. You can also look for more development of Emarion. We get to meet a few Crowns and learn more about them and their lands. What cost will Diem have to pay to survive?
📚 This book is long, so put on your seatbelt and be ready for all the emotions and plot development that comes with a fantasy book. Penn Cole has a “guide” on her social media to suggest good spots to take a break - I would recommend checking that out if you’re not trying to devour this book in a single sitting. I really enjoyed the way Penn Cole expanded Emarion and deepened the knowledge the reader is exposed to.
🌟 My heart rate was sky high during this book, but I truly enjoyed it! While I hate wondering if my characters are safe or if the author would kill them off, I also love it. I have felt so connected to these characters that I struggled to put this book down. The next book, Burn, should be announced any day now!
Has anyone out there also read this series?

honestly, everyone needs to read this series. a solid 12/10.
all of the books have exceeded my expectations, and this one was no different.
the way this one ended had my jaw on the floor BEGGING for more.

NEW TOP BOOK BOYFRIEND ALERT. Luther Corbois! The man you are!!!!
Y'all, this is an instant top 3 of the year for me. Maybe even top 2. This book is fantastic in every sense of the word.
This sequel opens up the world we know and love SO MUCH MORE, letting us peek into different kingdoms, all while balancing the worldbuilding and the plot and the romance so perfectly that it’s an utter feast in every direction.
The overarching plot of this series really starts to come together in this one, as we slowly learn the truth of Diem's lineage and the secrets and mysteries shrouding her birth, life, and powers in general, all amidst the backdrop of a deeply intimate romantic connection with Luther, the lighthearted-but-profoundly-loyal found family trope, and plot twist after plot twist. When I tell you that EVERY TIME you think you’ve caught your breath with this, SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENS to suck the oxygen from your lungs? I mean it. This is so twisty, it’s basically a labyrinth, but the kind that you absolutely want to get lost in and stay lost in.
This is absolutely, no question a master class in fantasy romance, and one of my all-time favorite series. I will be singing its praises until my voice goes hoarse.
IF YOU LIKE FANTASY ROMANCE, if you like plot-heavy stories with excellent worldbuilding, elemental magic, prophecies, found families, and SLOW, SLOW BURN physical chemistry, run, don't walk straight to book one to get started.
Infinity stars!

I'm literally obsessed with this series! And I'm in a world of hurt with the fourth book no where in sight! How am I supposed to go on?!
Heat of the Everflame was wild...I had to double check that I actually read a 1000 page book my god it didn't really feel like it. We are jumping right into where we left off in Glow of the Everflame and Diem being captured by Vance and the Guardians. We don't know what happened to her mother just yet but let me just say Vance needs to die a horrible and gruesome death, I can't stand that guy. Heat is really long so there is a lot of stuff that happens. The first half or so we are traveling with the A Team (Diem, Luther, Taran, Alixe) across the land running for their lives. I felt Diem was a bit too stupid in figuring out the Godstone thing but eventually our girl gets the job done. The way Luther was pushing her away for a bit was maddening, I just wanted to shake him and tell him to quit being so stupid. After the first half we don't really see Taran and Alixe any more which I missed...Taran is quite the show stealer! But I was dying at how cranky Diem's mother was getting every time Luther touched Diem lol And that interruption.AWKWARD!
Of course we end on another cliffhanger but even after reading the 3 chapter preview for book 4 I am not so sure that Diem is okay. Things really went terrible for her and it's hard to see how she can get out of her mess. I am excited for more Luther POVs though, I love seeing how utterly obsessed he is with Diem. The one at the end of this book is really emotional and really shows his devotion to Lumnos and how much he is willing to go against her for the sake of Diem, ugh I love him!
While I am disappointed that the author does not have a tentative release date for book 4 and she's pushed it back twice already I don't believe she deserves all the hate she is getting for not having it out already. Readers can be so entitled! I'd rather have a well written book be delayed than an author put out some half hazard waste of money so quickly. So take your time Penn, we will wait!
Thank you so much to Atria books for blessing me with an eARC via Netgalley, they have been beyond kind with letting me read each book in this series early!

There is so much going on in this one! But it's good! I loved all the twists and turns and the crazy ending!

Thank you to Atria Books for allowing me access (via NetGalley) to the ARC of the re-release in exchange for an honest view.
4.5-4.75⭐ not entirely sure yet where it falls.... But holy shit I did not see that ending coming. I had plenty of theories of how it might end based on the number of posts online that said this ending wrecked them, but THAT ending was certainly not on my bingo card!
Ok back to the rest of the book. I LOVED Spark, and then Glow very much felt like an in-between book that was necessary to carry on the series but isn't really able to stand on its own. Heat definitely stands on its own better, but the book feels a bit disjointed to me. The first half feels like it's own story, because Diem is so focused on this one thing (which I'm not about to spoil), and then a whole new plot comes into play for the 2nd half as Diem's focus shifts course. I feel like maybe the two halves could have been entwined better, plot wise, instead of feeling almost like 2 separate books. Maybe better overlap between the resolution of Diem's first issue and the start of her second?
Anyways, this series has definitely taken quite the twist and I'm super eager for the finale whenever it is finally published!

WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF CLIFFHANGER IS THAT I AM FREAKING OUT
Edit: now that I’ve calmed down a few- this book was a fucking intense roller coaster and I absolutely loved it. I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. That cliffhanger made me scream outloud like OH MY GOD

This book has me on my knees begging god for more, and that bonus chapter? INSANE. another win for Penn!

Penn Cole has delivered another masterpiece with the third installment of this series—a 1,000-page emotional rollercoaster that left me breathless. This book has it all: moments that had me giggling uncontrollably, scenes that warmed my heart and ignited passion, chapters that made me tear up or cry, and twists that left me furious and wanting to scream. And the kicker? I experienced this emotional whirlwind more than once. I won't be okay until the next book is in my hands.
Picking up right where the last book ended, this installment takes readers on an unforgettable journey through new realms and introduces a cast of intriguing characters. Penn Cole’s worldbuilding is nothing short of extraordinary, with each layer of this universe beautifully crafted and seamlessly interwoven. The way the story and characters continue to evolve throughout the series is truly breathtaking. Cole has created a tale so vivid, so immersive, that it feels like you’re living in the story yourself.
If I had one critique, it would be that I missed some of the characters in the latter half of the book—especially Taran, whom I adore. That being said, this is a minor issue in an otherwise brilliant story that kept me on the edge of my seat, desperate for more.
Diem & Luther
Let’s talk about the heart of this book: Diem and Luther. Luther is the epitome of a perfect book boyfriend, and the slow-burn romance between these two is nothing short of spectacular. The passion and tension Penn Cole crafts between them? Absolute chef’s kiss. Their relationship is a masterclass in emotional depth and romantic build-up, making every interaction electric.
This series is a triumph, and this book is its crown jewel. The intricate plot, emotional intensity, and stunningly developed characters make it an unforgettable read. If you haven’t started this series yet, do yourself a favor—dive in now.

This book was wild!!! The pacing is different than the other two, this one is definitely bulk of the storyline. There’s a lot that has to get done to set it up, I get that. At times it did start to lose me especially when it felt like the same stuff kept happening almost a little too similarly? But beyond that, I was on the rollercoaster of a lifetime with this one. Didnt know what to expect, didn’t know where it could go, didn’t know I was gonna survive. This book is a gosh darn beast filled with literally every aspect of a fantasy novel you could want. Secrets, drama, politics, love, friendship, magic, more secrets, betrayal, and so much badassery. I am baffled by that ending and idk how the heck this series is gonna end now but I can tell you right now I will not be breathing until book 4 is in my hands. And then I will not be breathing until it is done.

What a masterpiece! If you were to compare this book to the Throne of Glass series, it would be part Empire of Storms and part Kingdom of Ash. It kept me on the edge of my seat through all 1,000 pages. I loved the world building in this book and getting a peek into all the different realms as Diem worked to build allies. It was so fast paced because revelation after revelation was revealed. Action scene after action scene happened. It was a rollercoaster of feelings and stress! These characters just could NOT catch a break. The ending had me all twisted up, sweaty, and teary eyed. 😓 I definitely recommend giving this series a chance if you’re a fantasy romance lover!

This series is top tier excellent. As someone who loves Throne of Glass, this series is the closest romantasy I have read to fill that void. Overall, my only complaint about this book is that it is too long, and needs to be consolidated to remove some of the repetitiveness.

I absolutely LOVE the Everflame series. They are so good and the story just gets bigger and better. This was an extremely long book, I felt that 1,000 pages is a little too long for a book. Maybe it could be broken down into two or three books. Either way the story was amazing.

GAHHHH this series has me in a chokehold! I haven’t been this invested since starting Fourth Wing.
This third installment was a rollercoaster and honestly felt like three books in one. It was emotional and action-packed. Every time we thought Diem would be in the clear, something bad happened again and she just kept fighting. But let me tell you…the slow burn finally burned and BOY was it worth the wait! Also, the ending was insane and I am unwell. I cannot wait for book four!!
I absolutely loved the bonus chapter from Luther’s POV too.
Thank you to Atria Books for providing an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

THE most underrated fantasy series! Romance, action, it’s truly thrilling- a must read!
Thank you NetGalley for the arc!!
