Selena and Chloe live in Madder Bay where the summer is boring until strange things start happening. They must figure out why this is happening. A delightful story for teens. Thanks #Netgalley and #Spiderwebpress for the eARC in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are mine.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Ella English for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Selena Flowers and the Phantom Tides coming out February 25, 2025. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I didn’t read the first book in the series. This book felt more like a story geared towards middle school or high school age. I was kind of thinking it was a little older YA based on the synopsis. I thought it was a fun fantasy. I enjoyed the sea plot. I thought it was a little on the long side. The first half of the book was definitely really interesting. I lost some interest during the second half. Overall, I enjoyed the book and the characters. I would check out other books by this author.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy!

Everything about this book was good, it really drew me in and had the perfect blend of mystery and fantasy - mystasy if you will. The characters felt so relatable. A really enjoyable book

An intriguing read which was a perfect balance of fantasy and mystery. I enjoyed reading about the main character a lot; the character work done here is the best part about this book. The dynamics felt so real and relatable. Will definitely read more books in the series!

For the most part, the language was heaps of fun and exactly what I'd expect of a MG fantasy, while other times there were intense concentrations of slang that pulled me out of the book where everything was "totally" this and "so totally" that - almost like she forgot her audience for a time then slipped back into her genre again.
Quite a few continuity issues throughout and missions just cutting off suddenly, making it difficult to follow. It was heavily repetitive in descriptions. POVs were included that were entirely unnecessary and could have easily stuck to the main 4, as the additional ones added no additional information or viewpoint the main group didn't get.
Riddled with ableist language including DOZENS of uses of the word psycho, some so out of context the sentence didn't make sense, and others talking about victims of mind control! Make that make sense. Also manic was thrown in a handful of times in places that didn't fit context or make sense in the sentence.

Definitely a fun read! Loved following Selena Flowers and her friends on their latest shenanigans and heroism! Would recommend for ages 8-12 though some of the dialogue and certain plot points skew to the younger half of that crowd. Fun and ever changing!

Loved this!
Packed full of adventure that moves quickly and intertwined with the friendship between Selena, Chloe and Zelda made for a really enjoyable read.

I really appreciated having strong female characters embarking on adventures and can see myself recommending this book to middle years/young teens.
