If you like the Halloween episode of Boy Meets World, you'll love HORRORSTÖR by Grady Hendrix. This novel takes place at Orsk, a purposeful rip-off of Ikea. Amy agrees to work an overnight shift for extra money. The goal is to find out who is breaking into the store at night. What Amy and her coworkers discover is absolutely not what they expected.

When this book begins it's pretty fun, and gives that teenage scary movie feel. Soon it turns super creepy and gory. I had no idea it was going to get that dark! The gimmick of the store catalog as the book's setup totally fooled me. If you don't like blood and guts, you might want to stay away.

While I'm still getting over the horror that is HORRORSTÖR, I have to say I enjoyed this book. It's fast, entertaining, and leaves something to be desired (in a good way). I will definitely be checking out this author's other books!

A haunted IKEA store? That's an original concept! I read this book when I received the ARC, which was back when Grady Hendrix was not a super badass well-known author (more people know him now thanks to the Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires) and rated it at the time but didn't provide an actual written review for it, so here is one: read this book, it became one of my favorites after reading the ARC and it is still to this day one of my favorites. It's hilarious, it's imaginative, it's scary, it's got cheaply-made, ready-to-assemble furniture. It's really got it all! PS I'm totally hoping finally writing this gives me good vibes since I entered for an ARC of Grady's newest book, The Final Girl Support Group, which if I get it, I will definitely do a full written review immediately upon finishing it instead of rating it and then forgetting for a few years.

I am so sad that I didn’t enjoy this book! I had been looking forward to this book for so long! The cover and concept of the book seems so interesting but once I started reading it just kept going down! The only good thing that came of this book is that it actually went by fast because it was large writing and only on half the page. For more than half the book it was nothing. Once some interesting things started happening it was written so poorly. I really do not understand people saying how creepy it was because apparently I was reading a different book. There was hardly any plot, no character development or character personality, nothing like-able, and his writing style was not fun. There were other books by him I wanted to read but now I’m thinking otherwise!

Very fun and hilarious horror story. Really enjoyed reading this book. Author does a great job of telling such a good story.

You’ve got to hand it to him: Grady Hendrix took a beige-boring big box store (“Orsk”, it’s called) and successfully turned it into something utterly creepy.

Horrorstor’s premise is undeniably unique, and the graphics/design details throughout were so dang creative. The atmosphere and setting were the story’s strongest players - I had a picture-perfect image of Orsk in my head (almost as if it were a real place!).

While I wasn’t super invested in the characters, they still felt real, and the story itself kept me intrigued.

This is a great book to sit down and read in one sitting - especially if you’re looking for some thrills and chills.

**Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for the ARC.

An interesting take on a horror novel that included lots of interesting aspects. I loved the format.

I DNF this book because I discovered that my ereader has a lot of problems with PDF files, so I had to stop reading. I am really sorry about it!

I actually enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. It's loosely based on an downsale IKEA store, that's haunted. Besides the ghosts there is a great sucking hole of interdimensional horror. But I really enjoyed the social interplay between the workers and management. Funny and cleverly (told) written.
