Rowan's husband Wyatt is away on a business trip and disappears off the radar. Initially, Rowan is angry with Wyatt, but as time goes on, she becomes increasingly worried. Eventually, she hears from him and discovers he was mugged and his phone was stolen, but he is en-route home to her and their four year old son, Landon. When he does come home, however, he is acting strangely, in obvious pain and with a fresh scar across his side - not the kind you get in a mugging! And then things go from bad to worse when Landon goes missing, abducted from under Rowan's nose.
The plot is very clever, a bit different and fast paced, making it a compelling read with some shocking twists that I really didn't see coming.
Some people will go to any lengths to protect the ones they love, even if it means other lives are lost along the way.
4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Cara Reinard and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.
I had to re-read the synopsis before writing my review because, after careful consideration, I’ve decided the reader should go in as fresh as possible. What we know is that Rowan is married to Wyatt, who is stubborn, impulsive and constantly away on business. Rowan is anxious and insecure, as well as pregnant, and she’s not happy that he’s heading to Mexico City for a week, leaving her alone with their energetic four-year-old, Landon.
After Wyatt leaves for his trip, he goes incommunicado. Rowan is furious, but as the days go on, she also becomes more scared. Finally she hears from him - he was mugged and they stole his phone, but he’s on his way home. When he gets home, he’s moody and isolating himself…maybe to hide the giant scar he now has? In an effort to lighten things up, Rowan takes Landon to see the Liberty Bell, but this story gets crazy when her son disappears.
I was very surprised by this book; I read a lot of thrillers, and this was a unique concept. I kept thinking how implausible the story was, but for all I know, it’s exactly how things happen. (I can’t tell you what things, but yes, there are definitely things.) This crime thriller had a lot of suspense, a bit of action, a couple of HUGE surprises, and some very unreliable but very entertaining characters! Four stars.
(Thank you to Bookouture for inviting me on this book tour! “Never Come Back” is slated to be released on February 11, 2025.)
When you have suffered when you were young because of something that happened in your everyday life, it's only natural you swear that if someone would treat you that way, you would never accept it and the relationship would be over in an instant without a doubt. I could not agree more with that statement.
Well, some might want to takea look in the mirror before they start suspecting and judging others.
This story shows how desperate people often go for desperate solutions and when things are going horribly wrong, the ball that started rolling cannot be stopped anymore.
The police has to follow rules and so does everyone else, but when you can't see any other way out anymore, you bend the rules in your favor and that lasts until it stops and you have to face the consequences.
And so lives are wasted and shattered and families are ripped apart for ever.
It seems like this story has a lot of characters who don't know the meaning of the word honesty and that of course makes it easier to fabricate a twisty and complex book.
I enjoyed it and it kept my brain alert. 5 stars
