Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a proof in exchange for an honest review.
I must admit, it was the stunning cover art that first caught my attention, and I’m happy to say the gorgeous art style carried through the entire volume. However, it wasn’t just the visuals that captivated me—the characters and their interactions truly stole the show.
The story centers on two protagonists who conceal their true selves from the world, reminiscent of classics like Switch Girl!!, Horimiya, and Kare Kano. Their dynamic is both heartwarming and hilarious, delivering moments that made me giggle and even evoked those fluttery “crush” feelings.
The pacing was great, keeping me engaged throughout. My only real complaint is that I devoured it far too quickly, leaving me eagerly anticipating the next volume—especially since this one isn’t even officially out yet!
If you enjoy romantic comedies with endearing (and slightly narcissistic) characters and a touch of self-discovery, this manga is definitely worth a read.
This story is cute, but the two main characters are 2 peas in a pod which is the whole point of this series. The first book is setting the scene, and in my opinion, repetitive. It tells you time and again in different ways that the persona that our main female and male leads portray is not their true self. I probably won't be continuing this series as it didn't really catch me, and I don't feel like i've seen enough character development to intrigue me. It was cute though, and I appreciate what the author is trying to portray.
I’ve been interested in getting into manga, so I decided to give this one a read. I thought this was a cute introduction to the two characters of the series. The artwork and dialogue had me engaged and turning the pages. I don’t know what was so “unique” about their secret sides, but hopefully more will be revealed in future editions. I’m looking forward to see how their relationship progresses.
I was originally very intrigued by this manga based on its cover art, and it did not disappoint! The art for this manga is so good and all the main characters are drawn incredibly well that it's hard not to be mesmerized. The plot revolves around both of the main characters' two faced personalities, and provided a fresh take on a generally more common idea. Overall, the manga was very cute and the relationship between the main characters is sweet and fluffy, while also including a great deal of comedy. I would definitely recommend this and will be looking out for volume 2!
Thank you Coco Uzuki for sharing this manga to be read free from Netgalley.
“If only I were an angel, then I could shoot my arrow into his heart and really make it throb.”
she is just a rational girl! Her personality is the best!! And we can fangirl Toki together. The arts are so pretty. Otogi and Toki are destined for each other. I hope they are both taking too long to kiss haha
But the base of the story is a little weird. It is ok for a girl/boy to swear, let loose a little. Their environment does not force them to act perfect every second, I don’t understand why they act like they are forced to do that. And it is not a “unique” trait when you said/do something bad or awful. If it was for self defence, sure it can be tolerated. But it is not a good idea to glorify a “nasty” personality. Although their personality is not nasty but still, it is ok to be yourself with your friends. You don’t have to be perfect in everything.
I don't think I'm the right target audience for this manga. I was rolling my eyes hardcore for the first third and I couldn't connect with the characters at all, which is such a shame! I do love a good romance manga, but this was not for me. :(
First-year high schooler and class president Otogi, is the image of perfection, beautiful, kind and has a hoard of admirers however away from the public eye she's calculating, ruthless, and sharp-tongued. When Otogi slips up and exposes her inner baddie in front of the class's other paragon, Toki, he counters by revealing an unexpected side of his own and declares her his "partner in crime.", can this "heartthrob angel" maintain her perfect act and regain the upper hand, or will she be the one swept off her feet by a fellow false angel.
This is a beautiful and incredibly charming Japanese rom-com Manga, and I’ am honestly in love with it, The character dynamics are not only amazing but also engaging and wonderfully heartfelt. The art style is just so delightful and cute and matches the story perfectly. I can say without a doubt this book has captured my heart and I seriously need the next instalment yesterday!
Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for my arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
I remember hearing about this manga a while ago when it first released in Japan and I hoped that it would get an official English translation and here we are! The art is gorgeous and the story is so silly: two seemingly perfect angels are not who you think and to keep their angelic images at school, they form a friendship that results in some "kiss kiss fall in love" action. This is such a sweet, funny, and cute read. It's been a while since a manga has made me giggle and feel like a high school girl again. I'm excited for the rest of this series!
If you want something lighthearted, funny, and romantic with a dash of drama, I would definitely recommend this!

I enjoyed the graphics and the compelling story line. I am confused who the love interest is and why the undercut is a big deal. I don’t think I’m the target audience for this manga.
Fall in Love, You False Angels follows two seemingly perfect high schoolers and class vice presidents, Katsura Otogi and Toki Ninomae, who both hide a 'darker' side from everyone around them; however, after a chance encounter with a group of unpleasant boys at a train station, they end up revealing their 'darker' sides to one another.
What initially drew me in was the gorgeous art style. The cover of this book is truly stunning, and I love the character designs for our two main characters and the beautiful colours on the cover as well, as I love the whimsicality of Otogi's pink hair and the ethereal beauty of Toki with his lovely hair and eyes. This carries through with the story, and I love the changes within the outfits and hairstyles for our two main characters that help give them personality and differentiate between their 'perfect' and 'darker' personas. I also loved that the side characters and even the random background characters had different designs such as diverse hair styles and different designs for their school uniforms, making the story seem much more lively and realistic.
Overall, the storyline is interesting, but it has a bit of an awkward beginning as the setup for the story is that both of the main characters have 'false' personas that they upkeep while at school, with both of them pretending to be as perfect as can be. This makes them both seem rather conceited at first, but once they both permit themselves to let down those personas, the story improves as we see more vulnerability between the characters. I think this theme of the characters acting as 'false angles' is really intriguing, and I am interested to see how the author explores this theme in later instalments as I can sympathize with both Otogi and Toki's intense people-pleasing ways as someone who is Neurodivergent. I think this topic is crucial for the current younger generations as many young people experience intense pressures around school and are experiencing burnout and mental illness-related issues due to these pressures at an increasing rate. This story has the perfect setup to explore these issues in a complex and nuanced manner in a story appropriate for younger readers. Additionally, while this first volume is relatively short, and we don't get to see much of the two characters romance-wise, I did enjoy the moments we got and am interested to see how their relationship develops. Especially how their relationship allows them to drop the 'perect' personas, they feel they must maintain in front of others.
Overall, Fall in Love, You False Angels Volume One is a charming and intriguing first installment in a romance manga series that has the potential to explore a lot of interesting and important topics that affect young readers in an innovative and approachable manner.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for the Arc!
I absolutely loved this book! The characters and the plot was absolutely fluffy. The two characters are hiding their true identities from their classmates and during a dispute with some guys, the FemMc reveals her true nature, along with the Male MC. The story follows them learning more about themselves and interacting as both sides.
Overall cute fluffy read of two characters finding comfort with each other and being themselves. I cant wait for the next volume!
I thought this manga was cute. It was a little boring at times but overall I enjoyed it. I’m really hoping that vol 2 will pick up a bit more now that we know more about the main characters!
Wow I actually really liked this manga, it held my attention the whole time! It's a really fresh idea. I like that I still like the protagonists despite them very clearly being two faced.
I haven't read manga in a while - this was utterly delightful.
The premise is that the two main characters both pretend to be unattainable, perfect versions of themselves in school, while simultaneously hiding a not-so-perfect person underneath. I loved both of them, they are so cute! Will definitely read Vol 2.
This shoujo manga follows two high school students who are the heartthrobs and angelic sweethearts of their school class discovering that they both might have a bad side as well. This manga is charming and a fast read, with two lovable leads who slowly start to come together throughout this first volume. It definitely reminded my of Horimiya, so it would be good for fans of that manga. An enjoyable read all around! I recommend it.
Really great art and a very solid translation. The dialogue feels natural. This volume made me excited tor read another.
I really enjoyed this, I think the art is very nice and the story moves fast which kept me engaged. I think the characters are interesting and I'm excited to see what happens next
Class president Otogi Katsura is known as the “heartthrob angel” with her picture perfect behaviour and appearance. Little do people know there is another side to her personality, and that soon she's going to slip up in front of her vice president Toki Ninomae who also hides part of himself.
"What if he also has another side to him?"
The premise of Fall in Love, You False Angels is so interesting. A duo of two-faced people falling in love? Sign me up! However I feel like my expectations weren't quite met. The 'dark personality' these two have is more akin to Horimiya's Miyamura than Yakuza Fiancé's Kirishima. Which makes the switch in personality not that drastic, especially because we are privvy to Otogi's inner monologue.
However there is something charming about this manga. Our characters are very charismatic and their chemistry is electric. With time this story can develop into something memorable. The art style is also quite unique for a shoujo manga. It combines the classic shoujo style with a gritty, angular aesthetic for a more refined Chainsaw Man look.
"I kinda like being the only one who knows that version of you."
I would recommend Fall in Love, You False Angels to fans of classic shoujo tales with a fresh twist. It focuses mostly on the romance with some comedy here and there. This manga would be a good fit for fans of Horimiya and Ouran High School Host Club.
2.75 ✦ ࿐ give me my precious time back, you false angels!
i made a netgalley account to celebrate the new year and this happens to be my first read. let’s get the praiseworthy parts out of the way before addressing what went wrong with this manga. the art style is absolutely scrumptious. i love the way the mangaka dresses her characters; it takes mad skills, as well, to give them various hairstyles without ever making them unrecognisable. the paneling is also very well done and the fonts were well chosen. the transition between each chapter was very adorable — my favourite would be that doodle of katsura trying to pull an arrow out of her heart, as a nod to the last line she uttered in chapter 2 “but this arrow in my heart doesn’t look like it’s breaking off anytime soon.” it’s commendable how most shōjo mangas nowadays try to spotlight feminist issues while fully embracing girlhood. so, what bothers me, you ask? let’s consider the problems which arise when the author’s intentions don’t correspond with what was laid on paper.
katsura and ninomae are both very charismatic, attractive and ambitious students… not to mention that they find each other a little unnerving. isn’t that an excellent premise for a rivals-to-lovers story? well, i find the writing a little off. they both hide a secret they can’t reveal at any cost: they have feelings. what kind of farce is that? the secret katsura can’t let anyone on is that she’ll defend herself (and other girls) from creeps who want to take advantage of them. ninomae’s “dark” secret is that he’s just as confrontational. i’m no one to police what is worth hiding or not, because it truly is a question of circumstance, but the thing is we never learn why they have to be the way they are. the stakes are imaginary. therefore, yes, the fact that these two “angels” can’t show they can also feel fear, sadness and anger is somewhat silly. they’re just highschoolers, not even public figures (for instance, idols who, they, are under constant scrutiny.) we don’t have enough information about the characters’ family life and social status (although it’s hinted that they’re upper middle class or higher) to grasp what motivates them to be unauthentic.
[SPOILER ALERT] i personally think that the way they handled mori’s arc with the pedophile teacher was such a train wreck, but then again, they’re teenagers so i don’t expect them to know precisely how to fix a social vice even fully grown adults can’t remediate. however, the fact that the teacher backed off after ninomae “threatened” him is hard to believe. that’s just not how it works in real life. serious topics can be made lighthearted, but it requires much tact to do so. it’s pretty clear so far that those who work on this manga have yet to find the right equilibrium between raising awareness about dangers surrounding minors and the internal growth of two narcissistic young people who learn, for the first time, what it means to be their most authentic self.
all in all, “fall in love, you false angels!” is far from being a terrible read. if anything, i believe it contains all the ingredients it takes to concoct a good shōjo manga. i know a second lead i see one, so the colder twin we meet on chapter 4 is definitely on my radar. given this series' aesthetic appeal, i suppose it will soar to even farther skies from here onwards.
I’ve seen the cover of this title so many times but didn’t hear many talking about it. So happy it’s getting published by Kodansha.
We get two characters who showcase different personalities in private. I liked that they found out about each other in volume one and we get to see their interactions and to see the “real them”.
I’m really curious to see where the story will take us. Obviously, they’re going to fall in love but I also hope they’re able to cultivate a friend group in school that they can be themselves with. It sounds tiring having to be “on” all the time. Almost as if you’re doing customer service for hours on end.
Thank you to Kodansha for the DRC! I will for sure be continuing this series.
