This a was super cute and a fun read! I think there's a bit lost in translation, as the more informal/vulgar forms of Japanese have a weight to them that this translation doesn't. Katsura could come across as more vulgar to hit home that "badass" quality (Momo from DanDaDan is a great example of that handled well). I also think "madonna" doesn't quite land the same for today's audience as it could. It means a perfect or virtuous woman, sure, but I feel like a different word choice would work better.
All in all, a fun setup, reminiscent of Horimiya (cute girl + secretly punk guy). Can't wait for the next one!

I loved the comadarie between both characters as they hide their true selves at school but , slowly alllowing themselves to be truly themselves with one another. Loved how the male lead backstory is slowly unraveling and excited to see how thr relationship dynamic plays out in the story.

✨Manga Review: Fall In Love, You False Angels by Coco Uzuki✨
Fall In Love, You False Angels by Coco Uzuki is adorable, and the artwork is beautiful. The heart-stopping heartthrob angel is in a pinch! Otogi Katsura has found herself caught in Cupid’s cross-hairs and can no longer deny that she’s fallen for Toki Ninomae, the class prince and fellow false angel. As the two grow closer during a school orientation getaway, Otogi wonders if Toki feels the same way about her. Is his kindness just another part of his public facade, or is there something deeper to it?
❤️I enjoyed the camaraderie and playfulness between Otogi and Toki. The author not only builds up Otogi’s history and characterizations but also builds up Toki and some of the people around them. There are little details that make you like them even more. Otogi’s other persona is pretty badA. She’s not afraid to stand up for what’s right or defend herself. Yes, she contradicts that persona with her sweet and angelic Miss Perfect school persona, but both parts of her are adorable and strong in their own ways.
The first volume sets up the series as you see how Otogi tries to navigate school while keeping up both personas. Toki is doing the same but can handle it better than Otogi. However, he helps Otogi find a better balance between the two personas in a very roundabout way that gives her space to explore that space on her own. I enjoyed how they bounced off each other, and I am excited to see what more the series has in store.
🎭🎭🎭🎭🎭/5⭐️

I was waiting for a real “dark side” and something that would probably make this relationship special, yet the plot is that these two people aren’t nice all the time and they don’t accept toxic or problematic/criminal BEHAVIOR!
At some point she said “like me he’s a two faced person like me”… She’s simply not nice when people deserve it, and the man in question is a PED0PHILE…!
Yes, the MMC is pretty, and hot, and all, but this wasn’t a big deal to make it like thse two people weren’t “angels”.
Thanks netgalley for the free copy in exchange of an honest review.

First of all, the artwork in this book is absolutely amazing. Each page is filled with beautiful, high quality artwork.
In this story we have two main characters who have something important in common. They both have a dark side that they release whenever they're disrespected and treated badly. Once these characters realize how alike they are they find an understanding in each other. Finally they can be themselves around somebody, so what happens now?
It's a very cute story between these two. It does seem like not a lot happens but it works. I will be continuing on with this series.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for an free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Wow, what a fun take on the "pretty people" trope. I love that it isn't just one of them that is acting so other people like them or aren't offended by them. It works really well with me. I'm truly excited to see where this one continues to go, as I am now very invested in what is going on between them, and how long they will be able to keep their secrets.

The class president, Otogi, and her class vice president, Toki, are the definition of perfect, grace, and kindness. Both of them are practically angels. Or so the whole school thought. But in truth, they're crass and ready to fight. But once Otogi showed her other side and Toki showed his. Otogi can't help to actually like both versions of Toki... and that is just unacceptable!
.
This premise is so cute! I like how both characters are the same in the most unexpected ways. And this manga will definitely make your heart swoon! The manga illustrates Otogi's feelings very well, because as a reader it's like you're liking Toki along with her. Which is so cute and that's what you want. However, though they used a lot of different fonts to convey their sarcasm, or even just to try to show their "other" side, it doesn't translate very well to me personally. I had to read a few panels again just to imagine their voice as their" other" side.
Overall, this was a fun manga to read! I really enjoyed how they really come together as a team. It's just volume one and you want to root for them already. looking forward to meeting new characters.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for providing an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Otogi Katsura is the typical perfect “Madonna” of her school. Class president, perfect grades, and angelic attitude to boot. But she has a secret, her side personality that’s no nonsense badass. She thinks no one will ever see that side. Enter Toki Ninomae her #2 in every thing at school. Plus he’s the school prince. This angel has a devil side as well. Both deal with the fallout of learning each others flip side of their personality coin. I loved the artistic style especially moments when Katsura was having mental freak outs over her feelings for the bad boy prince. Can’t wait to see if they get closer in volume 2!

Thanks to NetGalley and Kondansha for the ARC!
Fall In Love, You False Angels 1 absolutely gives Kare Kano vibes, but seems way more lighthearted as a starting point. The tropes are fun and although Otogi has a lot of visible perfections that wouldn’t hinder her in or out of school, the idea that she has a strong sense of justice with a touch of a realistic teenager attitude is a little bit laughable from someone who isn’t Japanese.
I do find these coming of age stories interesting from an outside perspective as there is a lot of emphasis on your “outer look” maintaining a status quo or predictability that any teen could relate to, and I think it really lends it a cute charm. This kind of bubble that teens sit in isn’t forever, but it means a lot right in that moment.
Personally I think a lot of the other reviews are a little harsh about this volume (manga volumes do best as seen as whole series rather than single volumes as a personal opinion) and overall it is a cute introduction to the series, though it cuts off after meeting a bunch of new characters who will probably be our reoccurring main group of friends.

Thank you, NetGalley for an advanced ARC of this manga
This was a fun read at times but I am not sure if I will continue with this series 🤔, the connection built was cute

I loved it! The premise and delivery it's so good that you don't see it coming. It keeps you tense and excited. Honestly, it's such a fresh approach to the "double sided characters," since it's normally one character showing their side and the other one somewhat corresponding but they both being equally opposite it's just hilarious. Definitely addicting! And the illustration? Absolutely breathtaking.

It's a solid read. Really cute and the characters are likable. It doesn't stand out among other high school romance manga so far in my opinion, but I've only read the first volume so far, so my opinion on that may change later on. The character designs are really good. I love his hairstyle. Worth reading at least once.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with an arc for review.
Fall In Love, You False Angels definitely scratched my shojo itch. It's cute, a bit silly and the art is super expressive and pretty. The plot? Slightly nonsensical. Why are these high schoolers so hyper aware of not letting their "real" personalities show through? (Really, it must be exhausting. Though their "dark" personas are hardly actually "dark.")
But did I care about that? Not really. Some things are meant to be read solely for the vibes, and Fall In Love, You False Angels is just one of those manga for me. I will say, I did find it a bit irksome that there wasn't much in the way of plot progression and I was hoping that there would be the tiniest bit more progression or action.

I absolutely adored this manga. The art is gorgeous and the color palette is so cute. I was glad the story matched with the quality and style of the art. Especially enjoyed the characters, Katsura and Ikkuko have a fun dynamic. Definitely a series I will be continuing and collecting.
(Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha for an arc)

Today, I bring you a review of a FALL IN LOVE, FALSE ANGELS VOL. 1 that had me hooked from the very first page until the end. This is a visual and emotional delight you don’t want to miss.
From the moment the main characters exchanged their first words, I was captivated. The illustrations are simply enchanting, brimming with details that convey a unique warmth. It’s impossible not to swipe through the pages eagerly, craving more with each turn.
The lead, Katsura, is a fascinating and incredibly relatable character. She perfectly portrays the duality many girls can resonate with—being what others expect when under watchful eyes but feeling free and authentic when out of sight. Despite being the "Madonna" of her school, she remains empathetic and genuinely cares for others, making her even more endearing.
Meanwhile, Ikkuko is a breath of fresh air. His looks and personality deviate from the typical traits that attract people on this side of the globe, making him an intriguing and unforgettable character.
What truly stands out about this manga is how compelling it is—you start it, and before you know it, you finish it in one sitting. The story is so good, and the romance so engaging, that you can’t help but rush to see how it all unfolds. Plus, the animations are wonderfully adorable, a true feast for the eyes.
In summary, this manga is a masterful blend of art and storytelling. It’s perfect for a light, romantic, and visually stunning experience. Don’t miss out on this gem! 🌟

When I first started this graphic novel, I thought it was a tiny bit cringey. But the more I kept reading, the more I fell in love with the characters. They have a very interesting relationship dynamic. I really liked how they used their President/VP powers to help a student in an uncomfortable situation. I also loved seeing the secret, hidden parts of both of the main characters. Thank you!!

from the cover, right up to the last page, “fall in love you false angels” enthralls you with its beautiful art and feisty characters. to begin with, the cover is absolutely beautiful and perfect to entice readers to pick it up even with no prior knowledge of the book.
next, the typography in this manga is next level stunning. i’m truly a nerd for a pretty font, and the typography matches this volume extremely well.
on to the characters, toki and otogi have fantastic chemistry, especially once their secret sides are revealed. their characters don’t feel fully developed yet, but this is only the first volume. i am left slightly wanting with the depth of both of their characters, but again, this is only the first volume.
the premise is one that has definitely been done before, but “fall in love you false angels” provides an aesthetically pleasing and enticing take on the “secret sides” trope. i recommend this manga as i will definitely be purchasing it as soon as volume 1 releases!
overall, this was a quick read for me (as most manga tends to be), but i enjoyed it all the same. i do feel that the characters and plot aren't exactly fully fleshed out yet, but that is totally understandable as this is just the first volume. i think this volume provided a great foundation for this series to build upon, and i can't wait to see more of toki and otogi!
thank you to netgalley and to kodansha comics for allowing me access to this e-arc of fall in love you false angels! fall in love, you false angels volume 1 is set to release on february 11th, 2025!

I loved this manga!
First of all, the art is what drew me in and it was beautiful through the entire volume.
Second of all, the characters! They were so much fun. I love the perfect front they put in front of others and the fact that their hidden sides aren't sinister or bullies, but just a bit rude and plain cool! It's hilarious to follow through the main heroine's pov and to see her growing attraction for Ikkoku,
An overall wholesome and fun story with a great and engaging plot. I'm interested to read more and I have already recommended it to other people!

Fall In Love, You False Angels 1 by Coco Uzuki is a gripping, high-stakes romance with a fascinating supernatural twist. Combining forbidden love, mystery, and plenty of emotional conflict, this first book in the series pulls readers into a world of angels, humans, and the complicated relationships between them. If you're into fantasy romance with dark undertones, this one’s definitely worth checking out.
Story & Setting
The story centers around Liria, a strong-willed young woman who finds herself entangled with a group of angels who are not what they seem. The book opens with an intriguing premise: Liria becomes involved with beings who, on the surface, appear to be divine protectors, but as the title suggests, they may not be as “angelic” as they claim. The angels’ motivations, their dark secrets, and their connection to Liria make for a fascinating story, full of tension and twists.
The setting is atmospheric, shifting between the celestial and the earthly realms. Uzuki does a great job of blending the mystical with the familiar, creating a world that feels both otherworldly and real. The celestial realm is described in rich detail—full of mystery and allure—while the human world offers a sharp contrast that grounds the plot. There’s a lot of suspense in the way the world-building unfolds, with secrets slowly revealed over the course of the novel, making you want to keep reading to uncover more.
Plot & Pacing
The pacing in Fall In Love, You False Angels is steady, building tension as the plot progresses. It’s not an action-packed, fast-paced read, but that’s part of its appeal. The book takes its time to develop the characters and the relationships, allowing for plenty of emotional depth. The slow burn between Liria and the angelic characters keeps things interesting, with an undercurrent of forbidden attraction that is always present but never rushed. This means that the romance develops more organically, making the eventual connections feel earned rather than forced.
The story also does a great job of balancing romance with mystery. There’s a lot to unravel about the true nature of the angels and their involvement with Liria, which keeps the reader invested beyond just the romantic drama. The mix of supernatural intrigue and emotional depth makes this book more than just your typical fantasy romance—it has real stakes, and you’ll find yourself questioning who to trust and what will happen next.
Character Development
Liria is a well-rounded protagonist who is both relatable and compelling. She’s smart, independent, and not easily swayed, which makes her a strong anchor for the story. Her evolving relationship with the angels brings out different sides of her, from vulnerability to defiance, and you get a real sense of her inner conflict. The tension between trusting these powerful beings while also keeping her guard up is a constant theme, and Liria’s growth throughout the book is satisfying to watch.
The angels themselves are an intriguing mix of stoic and mysterious. They have their own personal conflicts and hidden motives, which makes them far from perfect. Each one brings something different to the story, and you’ll find yourself wondering which of them Liria can actually trust. They’re not your typical "good guys," which adds a lot of complexity to the narrative. The relationships between them and Liria are what really drive the emotional beats of the book.
Themes
At its core, Fall In Love, You False Angels is about trust, betrayal, and the search for truth. Liria’s journey is as much about understanding the angels’ true intentions as it is about discovering more about herself. The theme of false angels plays out in various ways—whether it's the deception within the heavenly realm, the characters' hidden agendas, or Liria's own doubts. It’s a story about questioning appearances and understanding that things—especially people—are rarely what they seem on the surface.
The romance is also complicated by the supernatural world Liria is caught up in. Love, betrayal, and loyalty are tested in a setting where the stakes are much higher than just human emotions. It’s a good balance of internal and external conflict, with Liria torn between her desires and the dangers that come with falling for someone who isn’t entirely human.
Writing Style & Tone
Coco Uzuki’s writing style is engaging, with a strong narrative voice that keeps you hooked. The tone is atmospheric, with a sense of tension that builds as the story progresses. There’s a level of intensity to the relationships and the emotional moments that feels real, but it’s balanced with a touch of vulnerability that makes the characters more relatable.
The writing doesn’t shy away from the darker side of the supernatural world, but it also allows for moments of lightness and intimacy, particularly in the developing romantic tension. The world-building is rich without being overwhelming, and the emotional stakes are set up in a way that keeps you invested in the characters and the plot.
Criticism
The book's pacing might feel a bit slow for some readers, especially if you're looking for a quicker payoff in the romance or action. The gradual unfolding of the plot can be a bit frustrating at times, especially if you prefer a more fast-paced, action-packed story. However, for those who enjoy a slower burn with more character depth and world-building, it’s definitely rewarding.
Additionally, while the main characters are well-developed, some of the supporting cast could have been fleshed out more. Some of the secondary angels, in particular, feel a bit one-dimensional, serving more as plot devices than fully realized characters. It would have been interesting to see more of their personal stories and motivations.
Conclusion
Overall, Fall In Love, You False Angels 1 is an intriguing start to what promises to be a captivating series. With its mix of romance, mystery, and supernatural elements, it offers plenty for fans of fantasy and character-driven stories. The slow-burn romance, the complex angels, and the emotional stakes make it a compelling read. While it could use a bit more action and development of the secondary characters, the book’s rich world-building and engaging protagonist more than make up for it. If you're a fan of stories where nothing is quite as it seems and you love a bit of forbidden romance, this one’s definitely worth picking up.

I have been looking for a fun new manga to get into. This almost reminds me of Maid-Sama, where the main girl hides her personality/job from her school life. I will love to see how these two learn to be who they really are.
