The art is fantastic, very eyecatching! The characters and their hidden sides are great, Katsura in particular is very cute with her trying to hide her "dark" side and maintaining her perfect facade. I love seeing how confident she is, and it's great that Ikkoku likes both sides. The blooming romance is intriguing, and I'd definitely like to read more of them. I imagine translating this must have been challenging given that Katsura and Ikkoku speak differently when in their "dark" sides, but I think the translation managed to convey their speech. Good job to the translator!

Otogi is beautiful and kind, the perfect Madonna who everyone at school admires as the "heartthrob angel." But that's just a mask she wears to hide her true self: tough, over-it, and tough-as-nails. The only one who can stand beside her is the kind and prince-like Toki, perfect and smart just like her mask. But when he witnesses her slip and shows her true personality, instead of being scandalized, Toki reveals a hidden side of his own. Can Otogi keep up her facade and avoid falling for Toki? And what are Toki's true feelings and intentions?
It's a very cute and funny story. I love the idea of the two class angels actually being the opposite of everything expected of them just from how they look. It's a nice twist that pays off in some truly fun and tender moments with the potential to have a lot more.
The art is typical of the genre, which is perfect for the story because it shines whenever Toki and Otogi are at their cutest while also working perfectly to show off their emotions.
I'm invested in the characters and look forward to seeing what comes next.
Delighted thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the introduction to a great series!

fall in love you false gods - MANGA REVIEW

rating: ⭐️4
the two main characters are these top notch students; they’re popular, everyone admires them and wants to date them but they both hold a secret “other side” to them that they don’t want anyone to see.
honestly i feel the “secret” here was a little stupid bc it’s just them not being total pushovers and getting angry at people doing rude things. the secret just may not have been displayed enough in this first volume. despite that, i gave this manga a 4 star because (1) it’s a well drawn manga with a pretty art style, (2) i can definitely see a lot of potential in this series & manga is hard to judge off the first volume alone, (3) the concept isn’t overdone yet. a lot of mangas follow similar plot points but i didn’t go into this manga seeing any other ones similar so i liked that.
i would love to see the characters built out more & more contrast between their normal selves and their “alter ego”
i will look forward to seeing where this series goes!

It’s super cute. I love the plot and story. I only wish it was a little longer. Ikkoku is really gonna make her work for it and I love that. I hope in vol 2 we get some heart strings pulled or she tries to make him jealous to see her.

I really enjoyed this!
The art is gorgeous and the main characters had me kicking my feet and giggling. I’m actually itching to get my hands on the next volume asap.
I love the concept of a blossoming romance between two people that can be a safe space to be their true selves only around each other. I’m kind of hoping I see some protective jealousy in the future lol.

This was a super cute romance between two popular and perfect characters who both have very different sides to them outside of school. I really liked the differences between them and I think the dynamic works very well. I think this will be a slow-burn but it will definitely be worth it in the end.
Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the free e-arc in exchange for a free, honest review.

This first volume is a great introduction to an innocent love story with comedic characters and isn't afraid of addressing darker themes.
The art style is very elegant which works perfectly for our two main characters who are thought of as perfect angels by the rest of their classmates. However, it is all more calculated than everyone knows.
I felt immediately drawn to the story and was invested even though the plot was on the simpler side. Much like any romance story, I got giddy, almost immediately, for the love-interest interactions.
As readers, we don't see much of the rest of the world/settings but it just shows us the focal point is very close and holds the internal POV of our female MC.
I am certainly interested in continuing with Volume 2 and seeing how the story continues. It is a nice cosy, quick read.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this story.
SPOILERS TO FOLLOW
This was SO DAMN CUTE. I really enjoyed how the two of them can be their "true selves" with each other and, it seemed, with one other trusted friend. I think it's important that they don't only have each other to be themselves around otherwise I think their relationship would feel a little forced or maybe disingenuous because they'll feel like they have to be around each other. Since they have other people they can turn too, their relationship will develop more naturally. I also really enjoyed the art style and how "dark Ikkoku" has a sharper art style than his "light version" (not sure if that makes sense but his real self just has more presence than his facade).

It's cute. Switch girl but make it narcissistic.
FL is cute for real, a little dumb and she falls fast. I can't wait to see ML develop some feelings cause he seems to be the kind that falls hard.

This was so cute! Why has it been so long since I've read Manga.
Both MC are considered to be sweet, kind, and angelic, but the both find out soon enough that the other has a hidden personality that takes no crap. What makes it sweet is that they are able to be themselves around each other and don't have to fake anything.
I can't wait to read the next one.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A typical romance manga where both characters have their own dark side that they want to hide.
Both of the main characters are famously known as the 'perfect figure,' by most of the students in their school. An insane beauty, the perfect 'madonna', everyone can't help but be fascinated by their presence. However, they were unaware that Otogi who was supposed to be a composed, polite person, has curated this persona on purpose, and the real her is way more narcissistic, and calculating. As the president of the high school council, she puts in extra effort to maintain the persona, alongside Toki, the vice president, who seems to be the ideal fit for her. Otogi starts to wonder if he also hides behind a mask at school as her, so she starts to observe him closely.
The series is so cute; I truly love the art style and the dynamic between the characters. It seems like this is going to be a fast-paced romance and a predictable one, though it does not detract from my enjoyment at all. I'm looking forward to knowing more of Toki's character, as for now he is the typical mysterious male lead like we usually saw in shoujo romance. I love Otogi's character, its rare to see a female lead who knows her own worth and immediately admits her feelings. Overall, an entertaining and light read. Somehow the premise reminds me of Switch Girl, which is my other favorite romance manga.

This was really cute!! I think it’s just sadly not for me as I’m used to more adult-themed manga :(. I would definitely recommend this to my friends that love slice of life manga though

Having grown up reading Switch Girl girlie, I’ve always enjoyed stories where the characters aren’t quite what they seem. So I was eager to pick this one up and I must say it did not disappoint!
The first volume really sets up a fun dynamic. I loved the artwork—it's beautiful, clean, and expressive, capturing both the sweet and humorous moments perfectly. The atmosphere is light, but with enough depth to keep things from feeling too superficial. It has the perfect balance between fun and meaningful, exactly what I look for in a rom-com.
Otogi and Toki both present the same flawless image to the world: calm, beautiful, perfect in every way, and adored by everyone around them. But as the story unfolds, and their hidden sides of their personalities start to show, we realise that they are so much more behind their perfect smile. Watching them reveal their insecurities to each other and build trust is really captivating.
BUT, one thing prevented me from liking this first volume as much as I hoped: the way they start to share with each other so easily their biggest insecurities, how quick some feelings come, it honestly felt a bit off.
Overall, this is a great first introduction and I'm looking forward to discover the rest of their stories and background!

THIS WAS SO BEAUTIFUL AND I CANT WAIT TO READ THE NEXT ONE!!!! MY SHAYLASSSS I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!! THEYRE SO CUTE AND I NEED TO READ MORE OF THEM ASAP

Loved this first entry in the series, and I'm excited to pick up the following volumes. Great characters, cute love story, and wonderfully translated. Thank you for the ARC!

Please do not be fooled by the cover like I was originally, this is NOT a girl's love title. But it is a cute, hetero, shoujo manga. It follows Otogi, the most popular girl in school - who is always composed, polite and has the perfect looks. Most people don't realize though, that she curated this persona on purpose and the real Otogi is way more snarky and calculating. She works together on the student council with Toki, who seems to be her perfect match - as far as appearances go. Otogi wonders if he also hides behind a mask at school so she starts paying more attention to Toki (it also doesn't hurt that he is rather nice to look at) but cannot find any fault in him. One afternoon the two take the train together and after some people start harassing them, Otogi snaps and reveals her true colors. To her shock Toki actually seems to be into this side of her and the two start spending some time together and truly getting to know each other, with Toki introducing her to a few of his friends and inviting her to meet up outside of school as well. I think this manga has a lot of potential for a nice slowburn romance and to play with the stereotypical shoujo tropes. The first volume was cute and it left room for the characters to grow and for more depth to be introduced.

4.5 ⭐️
This first volume was SO CUTE! I really liked how the main characters interacted with each other, and I'm curious to see how the side characters and the plot will move forward with them!
If you like:
▪︎slow-burn
▪︎hidden/secret personalities
▪︎a sense of justice
▪︎student councils
then you'll enjoy this one! 🥰

A cute slice-of-life romance about two people who can show each other their hidden sides.
Otogi Katsura and Toki Ninomae are the president and vice president of their class committee, and while their classmates think they're perfect they each have a hidden dark side that only the other is privy to. Both leads have sweet chemistry and they balance each other well, and they have more in common than just hidden sides. I'm unsure of where the story goes from here, but I love the idea of them using their hidden dark sides as a way to help and protect their classmates as they did in this volume. However, I think it's a bit silly how they make such a big deal about what they're hiding when I feel that their off-kilter behavior in those situations would've been natural, especially in the chapter with their teacher.
Both characters had some cute moments with each other, but we didn't get too much of what they're like with other people when they're not around each other. I think building up to the reveal of their hidden sides would've made it more impactful, like showing them with some other friends or at home. I hope that's something the audience gets to experience in future volumes. I'm curious how their story progresses, so it's likely I'll be picking up another volume whenever it releases. But, I'm unsure if this is a story that can support more than three volumes at most, but since this is only a short snippet we'll see where it goes.
Besides that, I think the art style is gorgeous and has a soft feel that many great shojos have.
I think if you're looking for something with the vibes of Toradora and a bit of Kaguya-sama, give this one a try!
A big thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for the early e-copy!

Pretty cute start, focuses on two high school 'angels' who have the perfect image but actually have a different attitude when with each other. I liked the main girl as she tries to figure out her male counterpart and if he will one day be her boyfriend. Will most likely continue reading the rest of the series.

“In other words… he’s the ideal candidate to be my first boyfriend! A perfect match for me, the perfect beauty!”
4.00 / 5.00 stars
First-year class President Katsura and Vice President Ninomae are the perfect combination of good looking and sweet… or are they? Hiding the dark parts of themselves to get ahead has always come too easily, but when Katsura lets her façade slip, she finds she isn’t the only one with a dark secret. This review is for the first volume of “Fall in Love, You False Angels” which contains chapters 1-4 of the overall story. Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for access to the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I’ve been reading manga for more than 20 years, so when I read the blurb that “…False Angels” is in the same vein as Kare Kano (one of my all-time FAVORITES), I knew I had to read it. The art style was so simple, yet totally beautiful. There wasn’t a lot going on in the background to get distracted by so I could focus more on the plot, and it was a quick and easy read. I love that really none of the characters spotlighted in this volume are as straightforward as they seem at first. I’m also totally in love with “Itty-Bitty Ikkoku!”
Some of the translation choices early on were a bit cringey for me – using “man” or “girl” as slang, for instance – and there wasn’t a lot of character development in this volume. I’m hoping later volumes will make room for Katsura and Ninomae to grow and change and dig even deeper into their dark sides. I would have loved to see more of their scheming. Overall, I enjoyed the story and will likely pick up volume 2 when it’s released.
Since this is a relatively clean romance and quick read, it’s perfect for younger fans of shojo as well as newcomers looking to dip their toes into manga.
