TW: Grooming, Attempted Assault
Fall in Love, You False Angels by Coco Uzuki is a sugary sweet take on some classic tropes in this first volume.
Uzuki’s gorgeous illustrations (the heavy lifting of the works’ charm with its lovely lines and silly expressions) tell the tale of Otogi and Toki, class presidents, local heartthrobs, and all around too good to be true model students. The catch is, of course, that they are too good to be true and a chance encounter has them revealing their true faces to one another. From there, the two are naturally drawn in as their inner lives become a shared secret. Otogi and Toki, I should clarify, aren’t secretly horrible people. They’re just much more blunt and vulgar than their school personas suggest. I really hope the series leans more into why they both chose to put on such masks. The romance is really cute but in its early stages for now. Otogi’s pretty gone, poor girl, on Toki and he seems relatively charmed by her.
This was a really strong opening to what could be a really well done tale of secret romance, being true to yourself, and what people do in the name of politeness. I am eager to see where it goes!

At first glance, Fall In Love, You False Angels presents itself as a charming high school romance filled with perfect, angelic characters who seem almost too good to be true. And, as it turns out, they are.
Otogi Katsura, a first-year high school student and beloved class president, is the picture of elegance, kindness, and grace. With her stunning looks and impeccable demeanor, she’s earned the nickname “heartthrob angel,” effortlessly capturing the admiration of her peers. But beneath that perfect façade lies a sharp-tongued, calculating strategist who knows exactly how to maintain her pristine image. For Otogi, her angelic act is just that - an act.
However, her carefully crafted persona is unexpectedly threatened when she slips up in front of Toki, another seemingly flawless student who is equally adored by the school. Rather than exposing her secret, Toki shocks her by revealing that he, too, is not as perfect as he seems. Instead of blackmail or rivalry, he makes an intriguing proposition: they should become “partners in crime.” What follows is a slow-burning battle of wits, manipulation, and an unexpected dance between attraction and deception. Who will win?
Now, here’s where my mixed feelings come in. The premise is undeniably interesting, and both Otogi and Toki have that magnetic, larger-than-life aura that makes them captivating to watch. They exude an almost god-like presence, both visually and in their carefully maintained public personas. But when it comes to the so-called ruthlessness or dark side that the synopsis teases, I found it somewhat lacking. Otogi losing her temper for a moment - just once! - is enough to be considered her villainous side? I expected more depth in the contrast between their public and private selves, perhaps something more akin to a thrilling game of psychological chess. Instead, it feels a bit surface-level at times.
That said, I did enjoy the dynamic between the two leads. Their chemistry has potential, and I’m curious to see how their relationship evolves. Will Otogi manage to keep up her charade, or will she find herself losing control of the very game she started? And what exactly is Toki’s true nature: friend, foe, or something far more dangerous?
The art style is definitely a highlight - polished, expressive, and perfectly suited to the story’s theme of deceptive perfection. It adds to the dreamlike quality of their angelic personas, making the contrast between appearance and reality even more striking.
Overall, Fall In Love, You False Angels has an engaging setup and charismatic leads, but it feels like it’s holding back when it could push further. I’ll be keeping an eye on the next volume to see if it delivers more of the sharp, devious tension that the premise promises.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the opportunity to read this volume!

"I finally found someone I can be myself with." - brb sobbing
This was short and cute, and a good starting point but I just thought it was okay? Fell a little flat really. It moved too fast in terms of instalove for my liking and just felt a little short plot wise. They both have this 'angel' persona they put on around others but have a hidden/darker side they have only let each other see, but would have liked to see more of this as was only briefly explored.
The art style is beautiful and the coffee shop scene was great, but I am just not fully invested in the romance.

AHHHHHHH this is so good!!!
Thank you to Kodansha Comics and NetGalley for the e-ARC
This is a fantastic book and i really want to read the rest of the series now. Fall in Love, You False Angels, reminds me of Kaguya-sama Love is War. We have two upstanding students who outside of school, when don't need the opinions of everyone to be in a good light, flip their personalities. We've already seen that these two don't want to let the other know that they have feelings for each other, but I can't wait to watch them fall in love and continue opening up to each other.
5 stars

This story was trying a little too hard to be Kaguya-sama: Love is War, but it didn't quite make sense. These two have secret personalities where they aren't as nice as they at school, but like... who cares? I didn't quite get why this should spark an immediate bond between them. There needed to be something more to their secrets, or even how it was revealed to each other.

‘Fall in Love, You False Angels’ is now my new obsession.
This manga is a perfect blend of sweetness, humor, and sharp-witted banter. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for in a manga.
Our two main characters are what we would call "perfect" student council personas hide such deliciously complicated personalities, and watching their rivalry slowly evolve into something much more is a ESTOUNDING. Now this is only volume one…and to say the least it felt short so I certainly need more.
But the tension between them is sizzling and undeniable without a doubt which goes to prove it’s going to be even more enticing later on.
. If you're a fan of rom-coms like ‘love is war’ this one is a must-read! Might even beat ‘love is war’ for me actually because this story was truly a rivalry. 5 star but I need more LOL👏👏

Absolutely gorgeous art, extremely charming main leads and a very fun dynamic! What more can I ask for?? I absolutely need volume two of this immediately. I love when we get to see different sides of characters and love that there's a mix of a camaraderie, friendship, and more.
Do be warned that in this first volume that there is an icky creepy teacher, but it had the perfect setup and introductions to the main couple and also some side characters (Can I get more of the twins ASAP please???)

I like the two main characters and I'm interested to see the relationship that develops between them. The concept of them both hiding their true selves in public is interesting, but I didn't really feel like their "dark" selves were really very dark at all. Just normal humans that get a bit pissed off sometimes. While recognising you are conventionally beautiful is fine, I felt the way Otogi talked about herself was really odd. I'll have to give another volume a go to decide if this series is for me.

Biggest thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this e-arc! I haven't read manga in so long and this truly put me back on. It's very sweet and cozy & I can't wait to get to the upcoming volumes!

Koiseyo Mayakashi Tenshidomo is a manga I was really looking forward to. It's becoming increasingly popular and I was starting to hear about it on a regular basis. This is author Coco Uzuki's first series. The two protagonists are particularly handsome, making you want to frame every other frame because they're so beautiful, and the character designs are delicate and pretty. The drawings are really the strong point of this shōjo.
The dynamic of the double hidden face is funny and we can sense a struggle to see who will crack first, a bit like Kaguya-sama. The story's central idea of maintaining a facade and finding someone who loves you for your true self is a good one. However, said hidden sides aren't all that shocking. They don't let on when they get mugged in the street... so far so shocking apart from the borderline language which is a lot less stilted. It would be interesting to see WHY they don't act naturally in public (even if the pressure of other people's gaze and the conformism of Japanese society seem obvious). It lacks a bit of development, especially of the secondary characters. I hope the sequel doesn't just have Otogi crushing on the prince, but continues to have its little narcissistic phases.

This was such a fun easy pace read, I can definitely give it 4 stars and only because it has just started and I need a little more substance for a 5 Star.
This is so adorable for fans that like when main characters aren’t who they say they are. I was hooked when the mic had a secret different personality but when it turns out the mic also has a secret I couldn’t put it down. I’m excited to really see where that leads the story and how their relationship will turn out! Definitely recommend reading this if you love a little slow burn romance.

This is a story of two people, Otogi Katsura and Toki Ninomae who, due to societal pressures, hide their true natures from their peers. Both of them are blessed with natural good looks, and as a result people expect them to be pure or virtuous like angels. However, both of them discover that they are merely putting on masks, and they start to fall in love with each other as they discover whats underneath the facade.
This was a great start to an interesting twist on a shoujo. The art is stunning and the writing seems well translated! I will be picking up more volumes in this series.

This was cute, but a bit underwhelming overall. I like the idea of the two school idols being able to be their real selves around each other, but even their real sides were a bit flat. It was all rather repetitive, with nothing of substance past them discovering they aren’t the perfect people they portray. And that happened pretty early on.
That being said, there is promise to this story and I would read the next volume to see if we got a little more depth and insight to the characters.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest rating.

I'm normally not a manga reader but I really did enjoy this story and thought it was sweet and intersesting! I do hope to read more volumes!

I love love the mangaka. I had the pleasure of reading a one-shot manga they'd released so I was already a fan of the art style. That being said, this manga had me kicking me feet. I love gap-moes and this is right up my alley. I cannot wait to read volume 2!

I think it’s slightly underwhelming that their “dark sides” are just them being like… real people? I hope this theme is either expanded on or explained more in future volumes. However, the characters are charming and the art style is beautiful. It also definitely had me laughing out loud multiple times.

It was a cute first chapter of a romance manga. I loved the art style and I am looking forward to reading more. Thank you for the early copy!

Really loved the art style and the Kare Kano comparison was spot on! However, the plot felt a bit rushed for my tastes (the female lead has already fallen in love and realized their feelings by the end of the first volume) and there's some issues with characters telling information that should be more shown (e.g. the male lead frequently references how "badass" and "cool" the female lead is, despite the reader only seeing her talk back to some boys in the first chapter). That being said, I'm still excited to see where the story might go from here!

A fresh and very nice manga to read!
Otogi and Toki are high school idols: kind, handsome, intelligent, perfect... At least, that's what they want those around them to believe. But the top of the world is very lonely, which sometimes causes cracks in the mask. I had a great time with them: I laughed a lot, the young woman is so sure of herself that some of her interactions seem completely crazy, the young man is readable and at the same time very mysterious.
I also loved the graphic style, especially the character designs which I found beautiful.
In short, I loved this first volume and I can't wait to discover the rest of this manga! ^^
