Book 5 in the Cornwall Murder Mystery series.
When DI Lauren Pengelly takes her digs for a walk along the beautiful, peaceful Porthcurno beach little does she realise what a horrible site she'll discover. I was totally hooked on this cracking thriller. Although I did work out who it was it didnt take anything away from the storyline. Loved it and can't wait to read more.
Golden sunlight bathes the rugged cliffs casting long shadows across Porthcurno’s sandy beach. Within a cove, lying on a blanket, are two bodies. Their limbs are twisted at unnatural angles, vacant eyes staring blankly at the sky. Beside them is an empty Prosecco bottle and a note with one chilling word written in black ink: Sorry.
As the sun rises over a picturesque Cornish beach, Detective Lauren Pengelly makes a grim discovery while walking her border collies. A newly engaged couple lie dead in the sand. At first glance, it appears to be a tragic double suicide. But something doesn’t add up.
The victims – popular university students Jasmine and Finley – seemed to have it all. But as Lauren digs deeper, she and her partner Matt Price unravel a complex web of secrets and lies. Finley’s gambling addiction was threatening to ruin everything, and Jasmine had an unwanted admirer. With a double murder to solve and suspects mounting, Lauren and Matt must navigate the close-knit community to find the answers.
An empty ring box and traces of silk fibres found at the crime scene could be vital clues to cracking the case but when another life is on the line, have Lauren and Matt run out of time to catch the killer?

I was excited to see the next book in Sally Rigby's Cornwall series. In this 5th murder mystery, DI Lauren Pengelly discovers the bodies of a young couple on the beach. At first, it appears to be a double suicide. However, the autopsy results quickly reveal that something much darker is going on. And thus this police procedural proceeds with far more suspected than expected to be investigated. As this series has progressed, I've enjoyed learning more about the investigative team - their aspirations, their worries, etc. I now cannot wait for the next book!

If you enjoy a light detective mystery, you will enjoy this one. When two college students' dead bodies are found on the shoreline, the manner of death is not evident. Regardless, two young lives have been cut short.
Once it is determined that it was, in fact, a double murder, the investigation truly begins. As they begin to dig into Finley and Jasmine's lives, they find that Finley had a gambling problem and Jasmine had a secret admirer. This means there could easily be more than one suspect.
This is my first adventure into the Cornwall Mystery series, and I enjoyed it. It was a good, solid mystery. The descriptions of the coastline and all its breathtaking beauty make this book even more palatable. I also liked the characters. I will definitely visit this series again.

3⭐️ Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for an advanced copy of Death At Poethcurno Cove.
Lauren is out walking her dogs when they come upon two dead bodies. She calls the rest of her team in so they can start investigating. They come to find out they were murdered. They go and speak with their families to try to get answers but it just ends up raising more questions. Who would want this couple dead? Is the killer hiding right under there nose?
This is the fifth book in this series. This one was okay just not as exciting as some of the other books. I have still enjoyed reading this series.

DI Lauren Pengelly is out walking her dogs (Ben & Tia) when she finds two bodies and beside the bodies are an empty ring box and a bottle of prosecco.. She calls it in and DS Matt Price comes to the scene so they can begin to investigate.. The team - Ellie, Billy, Clem and Jenna work well together along with Lauren and Matt. The bodies are named as Jasmine Dodd and Finlay Glenister, both are students at Uni and home for the Summer holidays. Along the way we discover more about Finlay especially his gambling habit. Who could have done this to the newly engaged couple? Why did it happen? How was it committed? Lauren and the team uncover secrets and lies to a surprising ending and I was amazed at whom was the culprit.

Absolutely fantastic and gribbing mystery. Kept me holding my breath with the suspense more than once The story has many twists and turns and keeps you guessing right until the end. It's well written and keeps your attention. I'll definitely be looking out for more by Sally Rigby and the other books from these series

This is the 5th installment in this series, even though I haven’t read the first 4 but after reading this I will definitely read those 4. Here we have our main character DI Lauren who was walking her 2 dogs near the beach and stumbled upon 2 bodies. The setting seemed like proposal that turned into suicide with a sorry note. As story starts progressing we see that the coroner confirms that it was in fact a murder.
Lauren with her team start solving the mystery, there were few good twists and I liked the ending. The liked the beach town setting and the whole vibe of the book. These kinda setting always interest me even when I watch detective series. Really good read.
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for providing me with this eARC. All opinions are my own honest opinions.

This is the fourth of the five Cornish murder mystery books I have read. An excellent tale of a young couple who died shortly after getting engaged. Were their deaths murder or divide and why did they die. These questions are answered as the book unfolds. An enjoyable book read in a day. Thanks to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the chance to ARC this book.

This is the 5th book in the series and certainly leaves enough at the end to hint at the 6th.
Once again we meet Lauren, Matt and the team at Penzance in this Police procedural novel. The characters are gelling and at the same time developing that you feel you know them - almost like a TV programme that has several series.
This story involves 2 young people found dead on Porthcurno Beach after a seeming proposal. Was it suicide or murder.? It quickly became apparent which it was. Lauren and her dogs did the finding - which was dealt with, empathetically.
I had guessed the perpetrator very early on - which could’ve meant that the story wasn’t worth carrying on with but I wanted to know why - again this too became apparent before the end - but again it didn’t make me want to give up.
Sally Rigby obviously has done her research into police procedures and maybe Matt did behave in an odd way but he reacted to the situation at the time - like we all do
I thoroughly enjoy this series and looked forward to this instalment and I really hope that there will be another - this one left on a bit of a cliffhanger.

This is a good police procedural story. It’s full of surprises and I was surprised by the ending.
It’s book five in this series but it seems to stand alone.
I don’t think you need to read the previous ones but it might give you some back story on all the characters.

I am really enjoying the Cornwall Mystery books. This one had a very interesting premise and didn’t fail to deliver on it. Twists and turns aplenty. Very well written with well rounded characters. It ended with a premise of the next instalment. Very much looking forward to the that offering. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

You are pulled straight into the story, as auren Pengelly finds a young couple on a beach in dire circumstances. The story is well written and is woven around several friends of the couple, who may or not be involved. Fast paced from start to finish.

DI Lauren Pengelly was walking her two collies on the beach at Porthcurno when she discovered an unsettling scene. Two bodies on a blanket, a wine bottle plus a new engagement ring - and a note saying "Sorry". Was this a suicide, or was it something more sinister?
After the pathology results pointed to murder, Lauren and her team began their investigation. The evidence was frustratingly thin on the ground. But gradually things began adding up, and puzzle pieces started to align. Would they discover who had murdered the young couple, right on the cusp of their new and happy life?
Death at Porthcurno Cove is the 5th in the Cornwall Murder Mystery series by Sally Rigby and I found myself disappointed as I read the story. I am wondering if I received a faulty ARC, as there were so many errors - words missing from sentences; incorrect spelling ("new" instead of "knew" is just one example). I know ARCs aren't the final product, but the constant jarring which pulled me from the story, was disconcerting. That said, the plot was good, and I enjoyed the close-knit interactions between Lauren and her team. I've been thoroughly enjoying this series, and hope the next will be more readable.
With thanks to NetGalley & Storm Publishing for my digital ARC to read and review.

This was another great read in this series, it’s an easy quick read about Detective Lauren Pengelly in the beautiful Cornwall coast. She finds two dead bodies on the beach while out walking the dogs, it looks like suicide, but it might be more. It’s a fast paced story that will keep your interest. The author writes well about police work and has a good understanding of it all. A 5 star read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

Death at Porthcurno Cove is book 5 in Sally Rigby's Cornwall Murder Mystery series, and for the most part is easily read as a standalone.
Detective Inspector Lauren Pengelly finds the bodies of a young couple while walking her dogs, and she and her team are immediately drawn into the mystery of the couple’s death.
Most of the novel is told in third person from the point of view of Lauren, or her partner Detective Sergeant Matt Price. For some reason I was expecting this to be a cosy mystery, but although it was more of a police procedural I was not disappointed.
I did guess the killer about half way through the story, but I’m not really sure it was obvious or just a lucky guess as there were a lot of red herrings that had me doubting myself at times.
The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger, which I think may lead into the next story, but the mystery in this novel is fully resolved so picking up the next book is not necessary.
I really enjoyed Death at Porthcurno Cove. As I already stated, even though it is book 5, it is easily read as a standalone, although if you're like me, you'll become interested in the characters and their relationships and will want to read more.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a twisty police procedural with a seemingly lovely, young couple found dead in a suspected suicide pact. However, the deeper the police looked into the case, the less the case matched the theory. Great read.

The fifth book in the Cornwall Murder Mystery series and as usual I was drawn to it by its Cornish setting, and the place names like Porthleven and Porthcurno which bring back childhood memories of beautiful beaches and quaint fishing towns.
The story begins immediately when D.I. Lauren Pengelly discovers two dead bodies on the beach while walking her dogs one morning. At first it appears to be a double suicide but then certain clues indicate murder. The mystery was a tricky one with a number of suspects and a surprise ending. There were moments when I felt that everything was a little too easy, but then I reminded myself that this is a cosy mystery not a thriller and it was meant to be that way. Four stars

This is the second book I’ve read by Sally Rigby, the first being The Camborne Killings, which is apparently the fourth book in this Cornish police procedural series. I gave that one a generous 3 out of 5 but sadly for me the writing isn’t any tighter in this fifth book and what slightly niggled me last time became a big irritation this time. For example the two main detectives discuss something on their tedious car journeys (a lot of irrelevant descriptions of the scenery) then they meet up with their team and repeat the same discussions and theories. Too much padding and not enough content. The attention to proper policing and law is woefully lacking. I skim read the last part as the writing was so loose that only one out of 20 words were relevant.

This is the fifth book in this series but the first that I have read, it can totally be read as a standalone.
As DI Lauren Penalty's dogs, Ben and Tia, disappeared from her sight, the sight that she saw when she caught up with them, at the entrance to a small cave on Porthcurno beach, was a sight that would stay imprinted on her mind.
Sitting side by side at unnatural angles were a young girl and boy, on the sand was a ring box and an empty bottle of prosecco, on the girls finger was a sparkling new engagement ring, by the side of the boy was a note that just said "sorry".
Lauren quickly called for backup and for her off duty DS, Matt Price.
This was the start of an incredible "whodunit".
The bodies were found to be of Jasmine Dodd and Finley Glenister, Jasmin was the only child of working class parents, Finley came from a wealthy family and had a twin sister.
Finley and Jasmine and some of their close Cornish friends were students at the same university, they had been a couple for many years, friends and family alike were horrified when it looked as though it could either be a suicide pact or a murder suicide, they were even more horrified when it was proved to be a double murder, who would want to kill the popular pair ?
As the story unfolds, it apparent that all was not as it seemed with their friends and family, everyone appeared to have a secret.
This is a great "whodunit", with a great ending that leads beautifully into the next story, I look forward to reading it.
Thank you Storm Publishing for this ARC, my review is voluntary.

I read this as a standalone having not previously read the first four, however the author gives you enough to surmise what the team's backgrounds are. With an idyllic setting on a beach in Cornwall, you do want to believe about a murder there, but there is and of a young couple. She aptly describes the roads there which are not the quickest or easiest to drive at times especially when they ate chasing a suspect ! I did guess the 'who' but not the why.
Thanks to Netgalley/Storm for the ARC to review
