The proverb Dont judge a book by its cover is apt to describe this mind-blowing thriller. Halfway through the book, i was afraid that the curse of that island may spread to me, a fellow reader. The storyline was refreshingly new and had all the hit elements, suspense, mystery, curiosity, you name it. I was tempted to skip through chapters, solely to end my curiosity, also the perfect mix of brief but slow burn convinced me to trust the pages.
The 268 pages novel told in three perspectives though short, had achieved its purpose, to confuse the readers. I definitely didn't expect the ending. It took me two days to come to terms with the climax, like that was not fair at all!! ( once you read the book you will know what I was talking about)
Overall, it can be your perfect Thursday Thriller🕶️
This is the perfect thriller with plenty of unexpected twists, dark plots and dodgy characters.
The setting is perfect too and I was quickly engrossed.
I’d definitely recommend this one.
Three couples have taken vacations to Bali to celebrate their honeymoon’s. All three relationships are already strained and from the beginning of the book we are made provided with information about the issues they are having in their marriages.
They spend their time together on the island but not of them all care much for each other, soon many of these couples friendships are strained. It turns out that although they thought they had just met, information comes to light they makes some of them realise that there are connections to others in this group from their pasts and this leads to resentments and soon revenge to many wishing to right wrongs.
Everyone here has secrets, secrets they are keeping from their partners, secrets which will eventually lead to deaths. A very enjoyable book. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, all opinions expressed are my own.
A soap opera of a psychological thriller which I could not put down! Loved it! So twisted and full of revenge it was crazy! Thanks to NetGalley and Joffe Books for the ARC. All opinions are my own. Rating: 4.5 stars Publication Date: February 11, 2025
The Honeymoon is a dark, exciting, can't-put-down psychological thriller. Three newlyweds travel to Bali for their honeymoons; however, instead of paradise, the couples are met with long buried secrets, betrayals, and murder. Only one character truly survives - who is it? What did the others do?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. With that said, the entire plot is extremely unrealistic; however, if you're willing to accept the unbelievability of the story, it's a gripping read with so many twists and unexpected reveals. Once I acknowledged and accepted the improbability of the plot and put that aside, I really appreciated the characters, the setting, and the mystery. The story is told through multiple POVs, which really helps the reader get to know and understand all of the characters. Absolutely none of the characters are likable, and the author ensures that each of the characters pays for their selfishness. I had fun with how all of the characters were linked. I also thoroughly enjoyed the author's depictions of Bali and the experiences the characters had there. I will definitely read more by Jane E. James.
The honeymoon was such a great thriller which had me hooked from start to finish I could not put it down. I loved the writing style and how it was told from different perspectives which helped build up the suspense throughout. It was fast paced thriller with such a lovely setting everything about it I loved. Three newlyweds on honeymoon in a beautiful county what could go wrong well so much. This was one of those thrillers were you can’t put it down and you are rooting for no one but everyone I loved it and can’t wait to recommend it. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this great book.
If you enjoy a book with more twists then a corkscrew, then this is the book for you! My head is still spinning! We see this book from the point of view of 3 people on their honeymoons in Bali: Samantha (Nathan), Angelika (Bartoz), and Timothy (Jonah). These couples each have secrets. Watch them unfurl and cause ripples in the peaceful water! I really enjoyed getting the point of view from a part of each couple and seeing this story piece together. What a crazy ride!
Great thriller with lots of twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat until the very end.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. It tells the story from several viewpoints and I found myself connecting with all of the main characters. This book has one of the best character developments I've read in a long time. The plot twists and turns also left me open mouthed and I finished this book in one sitting. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!
Loved this thriller - and not just because it is set in the exotic location of a luxury Island in beautiful Bali! Three couples find themselves grouped together, and as they get to know each other they discover their lives are intertwined in many ways - pretty dark ways in fact, providing no shortage of motives for murder (...and yes, the body count is high!)
This book is perfect escapism - dark, without being scary, exciting, fast paces and utterly gripping! On the basis of this book I am looking forward to my next read from the very talented Jane E James!
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
3 very different couple are honeymooning on a paradise island in Bali. Then people start dying!
Where to start with this one. The author has weaved the most perfect web of lies and deceit and interconnected characters. Nothing happens by coincidence and everything is related. I really enjoyed this. Some parts were a bit predictable, but others blow my mind. I enjoyed the fact that I knew only 1 person survived due to the prologue, and tried to predict who it could be. This was well written and a great read. It would be perfect for a summer holiday
This was a decent read with a lot of promise but I found it fell a bit flat. I liked the twists and turns, particularly the final one, but all of these people being linked to one another and being on a random island in Bali at the same time was just too far fetched for me.
Thank you to Netgalley for kindly providing me with an advanced copy of The Honeymoon 💙
I was apprehensive when I started reading: a story about three couples, told from three different perspectives seemed a little overwhelming. But despite every chapter being in first person and switching between narrators, it has been easy to keep up with who's-who. That's partly down to The Honeymoon's excellent pacing: every one of its 60 chapters is bite-sized and somehow each one manages to introduce some kind of new twist or cliffhanger that means you absolutely /must/ read on.
It has to be said that the story here is a little far-fetched: it's about three couples, all honeymooning at the same resort, and all of whom know each other from the past, in dark and sinister ways. It's hard to believe that you could be honeymooning with the person who killed your husband's brother, the couple who evicted your dying mum from her home AND an ex client from your days as a SW but that's exactly where Angelika finds herself. Every one of the six people involved has at least one tie to someone else, which defies all logic and sense of coincidence - but for the sake of the story it's easy enough to suspend any disbelief.
Ultimately, I lapped it up, and with each passing chapter I found myself turning each page faster and faster. If you like thrilling page-turners, this is worth your while. Just don't read it if you're planning to holiday on a Balinese island: it might make you want to rethink your plans!
A beautiful setting.
Well written but unlikeable characters.
A decent thriller murder mystery which i read in two settings.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Full of twists, unlikable characters and coincidence's and a stunning setting. Not a book you will be able to out down easily. I just kept wanting to read one more chapter, then another one....it's that sort of book. It is a cracker of a read.
Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for the eARC.
This light, frothy book is full of unlikeable characters who are all hiding unsavoury secrets and have surprising ties to each other. All of them are also on their honeymoons on the island of Bali.
The secrets are teased out slowly and members are killed one by one.
It's a good beach read (or, as in my case, a good snowstorm read) that I enjoyed a lot, hard to put down!
Suspend your disbelief and fasten your seat belt as you jet off to Bali! Three newlywed couples arrive in the same resort for their honeymoons and they are gradually all revealed to have connections to each from the past, secrets they would prefer to stay hidden, and their own selfish agendas. Enough to kill for? Absolutely!
I'm not going to say any more than that, but if you've read any of Jane E. James' other incredible thrillers, you'll know that it won't end well for all of them and it definitely won't end as you expect it to, with some epic twists dropped on you from a great height!
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Jane E. James and Joffe for an ARC in return for an honest review.
If you’re in the mood for a good thriller, check out The Honeymoon by Jane James. It’s a great book.
I loved this book! I liked the 3 perspectives that it was told from. Once I started, I didn't want to put it down. It seemed like there was a "secret" in every chapter or so, which made it a quick page turner wanting more. I love when all the characters' stories intertwine someway. And the ending.....didn't see that coming.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for an early copy of The Honeymoon. The cover is FANTASTIC, caught my eye immediately. A very good read but also not believable with all the ties the couples had to one another. No matter, it kept my interest anyway and the ending was amazing! I felt as if I was in Bali with all of them, thank you again.
