This Encyclopedia of Birds, by zoologist and natural history expert Jules Howard is a brilliantly informative celebration of birdlife the world over, with over 300 birds included in this delightful resource.

The book begins with a helpful guide of how to use the book, then details what makes a bird, and a guide to bird families. It is well organised, which makes it easy to find a particular bird, or bird family whenever necessary using the index or contents page. The layout of each section includes helpful information about each bird, including some fun facts, as well as visually appealing and detailed illustrations.

This would be a wonderful addition to any home or school library, or a great gift for nature lovers of all ages.

This book offers a wonderful treat for budding ornithologists. It is beautifully illustrated throughout and packed with information. There is even a handy guide entitled How to Use This Book.

Following the introduction, there is a section on What is a Bird?, followed by A Guide to Bird Families. After this, there are sections on many kind of birds. To name just a few there are Birds of Prey, Owl, Tunnel-Nesters and Forgotten Birds.

I would have loved a book like this when I was a kid. I find it helpful as an adult as well. It is just filled with interesting facts.

A nice compendium of birds for the bird lovers and bird watchers in your life and would also be perfect for any kid who is interested in ecology. If you like playing the board game Wingspan, you’ll also enjoy this book on bird facts. In Jules Howard and Namasri Niumim’s Encyclopedia of Birds, there’s a nice illustration and summary of interesting facts for each bird, including their size and where they’re typically found. It’s also group by type of birds species (i.e., owls are grouped together, etc). The illustrations so wonderful - realistic, detailed, and very reminiscent of the vintage scientific illustrations. We never think about the amount of scientific research that goes into compiling an encyclopedia like this, but this book is just full of great information. I’m hoping this will help me recognize more birds in the wild!

Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are independently my own.

There's something very nostalgic about the Encyclopedia of Birds by Jules Howard. It's got great illustrations, and helpful descriptions of the birds, so it's a great text for a novice birdwatcher. The glossary at the back is very clear and helpful for understanding the technical jargon of bird classifications. Highly recommend for a kid or preteen who enjoys birds or likes learning about new subjects.

I love birds.
This book is gorgeous, informative, and fun to look at. I can definitely picture it on my classroom bookshelf. Students could flip through it for research, or they could use it as a reference to draw a picture of the Scrub Jay they saw at their house and wanted to tell their best friend about.

Very cute and informative book, I especially lived the illustrations. I thought it was neat that they included lots of more obscure birds from across the globe.
