I confess to having grown up reading Agatha Christie mysteries in those small villages and PG Wodehouse with the comedies in country estates. I also enjoyed the Upstairs, Downstairs and Downton Abbey shows. So, it is not surprising that I thoroughly enjoyed this sleuthing by the beautiful Lady Montfort and her efficient housekeeper Mrs Jackson.

Lady Montfort hosts a particularly important social event each year but this year the evening is marred by the gruesome discovery of a dead body. The victim is well known to everyone, the spoiled and rotten nephew of the Lord Montfort. His death brings an unwelcome and brash detective who demands an alibi of all members of the household and their illustrious guests. This is a new concept for many and while it offends their sensibilities, this reaction is part of the fun.

Mrs Jackson is the real sleuth and she works well with Lady Montfort to find two missing young ladies as well as determine how the young master met his end. Very enjoyable and I look forward to reading more in the series!
