This is the second in a series of short stories. I like the premise of using psychic tools to solve crimes, and was kept guessing to the end!

As with The Whispers, this is a well-written book by a great writer, but I don't care for the psychic/paranormal storyline. If I would have realized the way these books were headed I wouldn't have chosen to review them. If you like that sort of thing, these are great books.

I am enjoying each of these novellas in this series.

They seem to fill in the blanks in between the books.

Eloise Montgomery learns more about her psychic powers. Working with her partner, Ray, who may become more than a partner if things go his way, they work to solve different cases.

Eloise learns, after checking out her heritage, that the powers came from her mother's side of the family and that her granddaughter has them as well.

I enjoyed reading more about Eloise and granddaughter, Finley in this one. It was very short, but I liked this one.

I think I would have enjoyed this novella more had I read the first part of the trilogy. I found it hard to engage with the characters, and the sense of tension/mystery which Unger builds up, which should have kept me hooked, actually made this a frustrating read.

The subject matter (psychic medium) really didn't appeal to me, which may have been part of the problem, so I'm sure other readers may find Burning Girl more enjoyable.
