Now here's a fascinating little book! The art direction is thoroughly unusual, in a way that's lovely but also disconcerting, and the images are separated entirely from the text. The story being told here is a little sophisticated for truly young readers, but may prove interesting to those on the cusp of transitioning from picture books to junior fiction (especially if there's a latent interest in twisted or updated fairy tales). I do quibble with the ratio of text to page, as I think there's just "too much" to maintain a young reader's interest; but again, a reader ready for junior fiction but still enamored of glossy, interesting art would make for an ideal reader.
