Entertaining Regency Romance

She needs to escape her uncle; he needs a wife to fill his clan’s coffers. Will it be a match made in heaven? Christine and Kerrigan had Mrs. Dove-Lyon, a most excellent matchmaker, on their side. However, they will still have challenges to overcome. Christine's uncle is not going to give up so easily. He wants her money. Will she succeed in escaping his clutches? Is Scotland far enough?

This is an entertaining story. I recommend it to those who like Regency romance with suspense. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Although this historical romance is part of the Lyon's Den world, it is only where our lead characters meet. The majority of the story is what happens afterwards.
Our heroine has a lot more courage and determination than even she knew.
Our hero is a Scottish laird in desperate need of funds. He gets a much better bargain than he hoped for.
There is a lot of excitement, adventure, and some danger in this slightly steamy read. Fabulous characters and a crumbling castle set the scene.
Good fun.

The Lyon and The Lass by Callie Hutton is a simply delightful novella featuring Mrs. Dove-Lyon as she arranges a marriage between Lady Christine Spencer and Laird Kerrigan Lindsay. Lady Christine is a young heiress who has been left in the care of her uncle, who really only wants her money. In order to get it he has betrothed her to one of his oily friends and Lady Christine wants nothing to do with the obnoxious, older man. She climbs out a window and heads directly for the Lyon’s Den. Kerrigan is the head of a Scottish clan whose business of raising sheep and selling woolen goods has been decimated by disease. He has heard of Mrs. Dove-Lyon and although he is afraid of what kind of wife he’ll get, he is desperate for one with money. Both are pleasantly surprised by the match and marry immediately and set off for Lady Jessica’s man of business to see to the money. The uncle has figured it out and arrives at their borrowed townhouse the next morning, sending them fleeing on his horse. They do make it to Scotland.

I just loved this story. Some seem so forced but this one was gentle and caring, and they were the perfect match. This is not to say that they got away scot free, but the problems that confronted them were solved rapidly and their life progressed nicely. Both are good, strong characters, who kno what they want and are willing to work to get it. The setting and trope are familiar, but treated in such a way that makes you want to love them.

Lady Christine Spencer needs a husband and escape London as quickly as possible. Her uncle is after her money. Laird Kerrigan Lindsay needs a wife with coin. She has the money to save his clan. Mrs. Dove-Lyon makes the match and it's a quick marriage in London and another marriage in Scotland. But her uncle isn't willing to give up.
A short read that moves quickly.
Mild descriptive sex.

It was quite and adventure, following along as Christine jumps out a window in order to avoid being married off to her uncle's friend in exchange for the fortune she inherited when her father passed away. Christine has heard rumors of a woman who pairs wealthy women with men in need of funds and agrees that this option of an unknown husband is preferable to her uncle's chosen match.
Kerrigan and Christine's chemistry and connection is immoderate but their marriage gets off to a rocky start when her uncle pursues them through London with an attempt to annul their marriage. Then there is a week of rough travel between London and the Scottish Highlands where the Laird's keep is located. Their marriage continues to offer challenges they must face together and their chemistry is undeniable. So, when trouble comes knocking they are ready to face it as a team.

Thank you NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for the arc of "The Lyon and the Lass" by Callie Hutton.

Another book in the amazing Lyon's Den Connected World. It gave me everything I am looking for drama, spice and witty banter. I also enjoyed the Scottish scenery a lot,

I lived that Bess paired Kerrigan and Christine. They were a sweet couple. For such a short book, there was enough of character development, relationship building and a mystery. Well done.

This is the latest book from Callie Hutton which is part of the Lyon’s Den Connected World, a series by various authors.
Here we find Lady Christine Spencer, seeking the help of Mrs Dove-Lyon notorious owner of the Lyon’s Den. She assists people escape difficult situations by arranging marriages. Christine is hoping to escape her uncle and guardian who is attempting to marry her off to one of his equally odious friends in the hope of getting his hands on her inheritance.
Laird Kerrigan Lindsay, is in dire needs of funds to help his clan who lost all their sheep to a blight which has left him without the means to look after his people.
The couple marry in a whirlwind and as expected it does not go smoothly or without some drama as they get to know each other. There is opposition from Kerrigan’s clan and her uncle is still determined to get his hands on Christine’s funds, which adds to the excitement of the story. Most of the book takes place in the breathtaking highlands of Scotland.
This is a very enjoyable read, with a great story and very likable characters, Callie always delivers. I would highly recommend this book.

I received and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book and these are my honest opinions and review.

2.75 stars

I liked the overall concept of The Lyon and the Lass, but I found that I couldn't quite get sucked into the story. I wasn't connecting to the characters and I wasn't connecting to the writing.
One thing I've really enjoyed from discovering the Lyon's Den world is how each of the authors are able to craft a story that feels reminiscent of each other, like they all belong in the same world. This one just didn't match with that vibe overall.

The pairing between our MCs Christine and Kerrigan was something a little different from the norm - the moving to Scotland and the escaping from the horrible uncle. The two seemed well suite to one another post marriage, so another successful matchmaking from Mrs. Dove-Lyon, although that is really the only part that feels connected to the collection since they leave England shortly thereafter. I think it would have been nice to see some more of their life after the conclusion of what I suppose would be the 'third act conflict' as the ending felt like it just came a little abruptly.

Grr! Lairds! ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Lady Christine Spencer is an heiress whose wicked guardian uncle is going to force her into marriage with his lewd friend and holder of his debts.
Christine escapes by knotting the sheets together, tying her homemade rope to the bed and climbing out the window, escaping to a new future thanks to Mrs Dove Lyon.
The man she’s now destined to marry is a Scott, Laird Kerrigan Lindsay. His clan has suffered setbacks with a sheep ailment, bluetongue disease, wiping out most of the clan’s herd.
He needs an heiress to help his people come good.
Unfortunately he really has little idea of how strange her circumstances are to Christine and how his clan will react to her. At Luffness Castle he announces to the clan that Christine is his wife and then hares off to Edinburgh (on business to be sure but... Christine is left knowing no-one and having to organize the Keep. for goodness sake! By now I’m ready to explode.
Of course it all came right but it just seemed to slide towards the finale. I’m not too sure about well meaning young men and their valiant much put upon ladies.
Still it was sort of cute.

A Dragonblade ARC via NetGalley.
Many thanks to the author and publisher.

Make my own future
We have a young Lady Christine Spencer who is desperate to escape her uncle! She ties sheets together climbs out the window to escape marrying the man her uncle had picked up to split her fortune with!
She makes her way to Lyon Den to meet with Bessie and see if she can find her a husband to get out of England!
We have Laird Kerrigan Lindsay who is desperate to save his clan from further starvation since most of their sheep have perished! This is their livelihood they need to get a quick influx of money now just to survive! One of Kerrigan school chums told him of the Lyons den so he travels to London and arrives at the same time as Lady Christine!
They share a heated chemistry at their first meeting as Christine uncle is a desperate gambler and will not give up!
They quickly marry and have no trouble with the consummating of the marriage! Christine is used to several servants and has been taught household management as her mother died while she was very young!
Kerrigan basically drops her off with very few servants and they speak Scots!
I love the way Christine doesn’t give up with a filthy Castle and keep and a whole host of duties that she has never been trained in!
But her uncle has not given up he has sent someone to “find” her!
How far will the nefarious uncle and jilted groom go to steal Christine’s inheritance!
Can Kerrigan reach her in time!? It seems he has an unexpected ally! Bravo and I love the brief glimpse into their future!
I received an ARC Copy for my unbiased opinion!

Lady Christine Spencer from London and Laird Kerrigan Lindsay from Scottland were both in a dire situation. The lass was to be wed off to a gambler by her own greedy uncle and the Laird has financial issues back at home and his clan was struggling. It takes great courage to wed someone we just met for the first time, but since they will both benefit from this marriage, their future was already set to change for the better. The Lyon and the Lass is an amazing historical romance book and would definitely recommend it for someone who loves historical romance. This well written book beautifully portrays how fate brought two people whom were in desperate need of a change to their future, and gained something greater.

Lady Christine Spencer needs to escape an unwanted marriage to her uncle’s buddy. Where can a young woman go to find a good match in a hurry? To the Lyon’s Den and Bessie Dove-Lyon. Laird Kerrigan Lindsey is need of a wealthy wife, quickly. He spoke to Mrs. Dove-Lyon at the suggestion of a friend, and has come to meet the wife she has chosen for him. Kerrigan and Christine take to each other at once. Hoping to get away from her uncle and his plan, they head for Scotland. The trouble doesn’t end when they arrive at Kerrigan’s home. Kerrigan is busy, and he expects Christine to take charge of the keep. Christine has no idea what to do, but instinct and determination take over. This is another entertaining story of a wonderful match made courtesy of Bessie Dove-Lyon. Kerrigan is handsome, strong, caring, and hard-working. Christine is kind, caring, and completely innocent of marriage and managing a household. She is also strong, smart, and willing to learn. When the villain(s) kidnap her, they make a big mistake. The result is a brilliant rescue and a couple of completely unexpected surprises. Great story with adventure, humor, and romance.

Callie Hutton delivers a short but sweet Regency romance filled with intrigue, passion, and an arranged marriage that turns into something much more. The Lyon and the Lass brings together two desperate souls—Lady Christine Spencer, fleeing an unwanted marriage, and Laird Kerrigan Lindsay, seeking a wealthy wife to save his struggling clan.

Their practical union sparks immediate attraction, and the journey to Scotland allows them to truly connect. I loved how Christine took charge despite her lack of experience, quickly earning the clan’s respect. Kerrigan's protectiveness and her determination made for a compelling dynamic.

The climax, involving Christine’s scheming uncle, added tension, but I was a bit irritated by the lack of true consequences for him. The epilogue provided a satisfying conclusion for the couple.

I really enjoyed the story but I wish it wasn’t so short or felt so rushed towards the end. It felt like details were glossed over for the sake of ending the story. Loved the beginning though.

An lighthearted and sweet marriage of convenience story with likeable characters, even if Christine's naive and spoilt nature made her seem awkward in some situations. Kerrigan is a cinnamon roll hero who would do anything for his clan and is very understanding and caring towards his innocent wife, but sometimes a little clueless about how an English Lady is brought up.
The plot is well written and has its farcical LOL moments, a touch of suspense and a few steamy love scenes.
Overall, an entertaining quick read!

Lady Christine Spencer is fleeing from her scheming uncle, who wants to force her to marry one of his friends in order to get his hands on her inherited fortune. Seeking help, she turns to Mrs Dove-Lyon to quickly find a suitable husband.
Laird Kerrigan Lindsay is in urgent need of money after his clan's source of income, his flock of sheep, dies of a disease. On the advice of his friend, he makes contact with the Black Widow of Whitehall and is matched with Christine. He is immediately attracted to her and gladly takes on her protection from her uncle, travelling with her back to his castle in Scotland as soon as possible.
Despite the chaotic circumstances and the new tasks, Christine soon feels at home, were it not for her uncle, who is not prepared to give up so easily…

Very entertaining book, with a simple, but intriguing plot, some humor, zero angst and a little action. I really loved both characters, but Christine is really great! Daring, sweet and slightly naïve, but I really loved how she tackled her new duties as mistress of the Scottish keep! A book worth reading!
