Admittedly, I'm not particularly familiar with the headless horseman and haven't read any retellings in the past. While I couldn't compare this retelling with the original, I was hooked from the outset of the book!
I liked the jumping between the two perspectives and timelines, which helped contribute to the building suspense throughout the book. The two voices were easy to differentiate from one another, and the author avoided many of the common pitfalls associated with switching between various viewpoints. Furthermore, I enjoyed the romance and found that it helped to reduce some of the mounting tension in the book.
I greatly enjoyed the writing, particularly the level of description that was included. It was an excellent balance of description and dialogue, and it allowed me to feel as if I was actually present as events unfolded. The writing also had a lyrical, beautiful nature to it, which helped to keep me engaged and interested in the storyline.
