Heartwarming and touching story of living with someone with dementia as well as the primary caregiver. The story is as much about love, devotion, and perseverance as it is about the heartbreaking realities of caregiving. Very realistic, also identifying the support for the caregiver, even if it is a little time where they can get away. As generations age this becomes more and more reelevant for both the patient, caregiver and how to keep the bond. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher.
So, this one revolves around Dementia and the downward spiral that these patients take as the disease progresses.
If you are ok with reading this type of book, it’s a terrific read!
Being a RN with many years experience in Critical Care, as well as Med-Surg prior to that, I can definitely relate to the Nurse Aspect of this…
Being as we lost my MIL to Alzheimer’s several years ago, I can also relate to the journey and the heartbreak that the family goes through during the road you all must travel (as the family) with this horrible disease…
Not sure if it was worse for my FIL…being right in the middle of it, but also being the LAST ONE she remembered (or forgot…depending on how you look at it…), or her children (who were lost in her mind earlier, as well as all the grandchildren…)
Beautifully written and portrayed, although the narrator at some points was just TOO ENTHUSIASTIC for all that they were going through…IMHO…
Highs and lows. Happy and very sad experiences. Awful mood swings…And…Extensive support all around (which is such a huge blessing!)
I honestly thought this was based on a true story, but I don’t see that noted anywhere, so maybe not…

This book is about a married couple going through a diagnose of dementia. The husband was diagnosed. The wife tells most of the story of the advancement, of all the help she received and the programs that helped. 4 stars.
Many thanks to Net Galley and BooksGoSocial Audio for an audio ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What an absolutely lovely book. So genuine and made me think of many patient I’ve cared for over the years as a healthcare worker .
I would like to express my gratitude to NetGalley for providing me with the advance reading copy of this book, which I listened to in audiobook format.
As the primary caregiver for my parents during their period of declining health, I found this book particularly resonant. It evoked the feelings of frustration I experienced when facing challenges without additional support. It served as an important reminder of the necessity of self-care in order to effectively care for others.
The narrative follows Jill as she navigates the complexities of caring for her husband, who is increasingly affected by dementia. She addresses the emotional difficulties associated with periods of recognition and the profound choices surrounding long-term care, ultimately highlighting the significant challenges faced by caregivers during such trying times.
I found this book to be a bit of a mixed bag. While the premise of a love story enduring through dementia is touching, the execution didn't quite resonate with me. The book tackles heavy themes, but I felt it sometimes veered into overly sentimental territory.
The writing style, while earnest, didn't fully capture my attention. The pacing felt uneven at times, and I struggled to connect deeply with the characters. While I appreciate the attempt to portray the challenges of caregiving, I found boring at times.
That said, the novel wasn't without its merits. The concept of Jim falling in love with Jill again was a heartwarming twist, and there were moments that genuinely moved me. However, overall, this book just wasn't my cup of tea.
Despite not being to my taste, I can see how others might find it more appealing, especially those with personal experiences with dementia. It was still entertaining enough to finish, but not a book I'd revisit.
