I had not read anything by this author, but definitely will in the future as I really enjoyed this book. Fiona Han has recently divorced her husband who is now in prison. It was an arranged marriage due to her parents’ heritage and she is expected to move back into the family home. A friend, thankfully, arranges other accommodations for her. Her parents own a prosperous business together with her mother in complete charge. Tomas Alvarado, former ex-con, works with Fiona and is attracted to her, but has never acted on those feelings. Her mother has made it clear that he is not for her, but will Fiona reject her mother’s prejudice towards his heritage and give Tomas a chance? He makes her feel alive as he slowly shows how much he cares for her. Her brother, Joseph, has been busy working for the family firm, but soon realizes that he has not been there for her. When the feelings between them flare out of control, will her mother once again step in to ruin their relationship or will Fiona finally stand her ground, for Tomas, for love? I really liked the cover too! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

Keeney Builds #2

What a delightfully heartwarming wonderful smalltown romance this proved to be ~ Loved it from beginning to end!

What I liked:
* Tomas Alvarado: wild in his teens, learning difficulties, ex-con, creative, good teacher, loves his family, loyal friend, knows what he wants, perfect for and with Fiona
* Fiona Han: bright, has a difficult mother, obedient…mostly, divorced, loves her brother, grows in many ways as she and Tomas explore their relationship
* The honest way that Fiona and Tomas communicate and that I can see them happy together
* The relationship that develops between Fiona’s brother Joseph and Pastor Andy Tran – two romances in one story made me happy
* Tomas family that were warm, loving, and everything that Fiona has missed out on in her own home growing up
* David Han: father of Fiona and Joseph, quiet, unassuming, and admirably able to step up in the end
* The idea of the Keeney corporation and its positive focus
* Little One: a kitten that put a smile on my face
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing and that it was easy to read without having read the first book in the series
* Reading a new-to-me author that I thoroughly enjoyed
* Knowing that there is another book in the series to look forward to

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how cold, calculating, callous and self-centered Linh Han was and

Did I like this book? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

A light and quick read which does as it says on the tin(blurb). But for me it ticked all the boxes I wanted from said blurb.
It wasn't epic. But I liked it. And even books that don't jaw drop you I've come to realise more and more are all the more special for that. Because ANY book take blooming talent! So to keep me reading, getting me.rooting for the characters and in this case giggling a.faid few times too. Means we've still got a winner.
I enjoyed it. And would read more from this author. It came at just the right time after a thriller and emotional turbulent previous book I'd just finished.

This is a sweet story, a bit silly, and somewhat serious. There are unlikeable characters and a ride of emotions, but the romance itself is lighthearted.

To me, this is a cozy romance (light) x family drama (heavy). The two elements balance nicely.
