This book is the first in the spinoff series from the Moonstone pack books. I think you can start here, but you’ll certainly be missing the earlier story that led this pack into the current position it is in.

Larissa and Malcolm have been frenemies for their whole life. Larissa is the more studious, steady type of leader. Malcolm is the punch first, ask questions later type of leaders. At the start of this book it becomes clear that they both are interested in becoming alpha, once Nick steps aside. The background here is that the pack was previously led by an evil tyrant who Nick, upon returning to his original pack, took out with the help of the majority of the pack. The small group of dissenters left after being confronted with the previous alpha’s deeds, were either killed or ran away. It’s the duo of runaways that ends up pushing the pack into even more turmoil.

While Larissa and Malcolm battle it out for the alpha position, the returning dissenters begin planting seeds of discontent amongst the pack members. All of this comes to a head just when Larissa and Malcolm come to the conclusion that they are better together than apart. This book had some action, some fated mates romance, and ended up taking longer for the main characters to realize things than the reader. This was a quick read, making for a fun installment to join this pack with.

Malcolm and Larissa have great chemistry and it’s obvious in every interaction they have. Combine that with having known each other and been rivals since childhood and you know something explosive will come out of it. Both have their flaws but their strengths complement each other well. The heat between them sizzles on the pages. Overall a quick read, a well written book and a good introduction to the Sunburst pack and the new series. The book epilogue also introduces us to the main character of the next book in the series.

This title is an impressive Paranormal Romance story. When the Alpha position of the Sunburst Pack becomes open, Malcolm and Larissa, thorns in each other's side since childhood, vie for it. As they undertake the trials presented, something besides their wolves stirs within: something neither wants to admit or discuss. Meanwhile, other troubles threaten the safety and stability of their pack.

The growth of the main characters, especially their feelings, is impressive. The dangers, internal and external, are interesting motivators. The main lesson is that the more you try not to think about something, the more you will. Overall, the story is enchanting.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Happily Ever After. Romantic. Steamy. Tragic. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

Nice spicy story of two alpha shifters who have competed against each other their whole lives. Neither sees the attraction for each other under the surface. Collins does a good job defining her characters and making them feel real. Her secondary characters added to the story well. I enjoyed the story and would like to see more of the Sunburst pack.

Good Werewolf story. Malcolm and Larissa have always been competitive but now they compete for the biggest prize of all. The Alphas position!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own! Thank you for allowing me to review

3.75stars-MALCOLM is the first instalment in Margo Bond Collins’ contemporary, adult THE SUNBURST PACK paranormal, romance series- a KOBO original. This is wolf shifter Malcolm Crawford and Larissa Ortega’s storyline.

NOTE: MALCOLM and the Sunburst Pack series is a spin off from the author’s MOONSTONE PACK-only available at KOBO.

Told from several omniscient third person perspectives including Malcolm and Larissa MALCOLM follows in the aftermath of a battle for control of the Sunburst Pack. Prodigal son Nick Reagan, along with several members of the Moonstone pack fought to free the members of the Sunburst Pack against a brutal leader but in doing so opened up the position of alpha. Believing he would be the only candidate, Malcolm is blindsided when his childhood nemesis Larissa Ortega enters her name into the alpha challenge. A side by side competition pits our couple against one another but the past refuses to go down without a fight ensuring the breakdown and division of the entire pack using discontent and discord to bring animosity.

The world building focuses on the battle for alpha between Malcolm and Larissa, lifelong frenemies that hide a burning need and secret desire. Larissa is the strategist, while Malcolm is the warrior, and together they will reminisce and recollect their years together and apart. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to temporary alpha and prodigal son Nick Reagan and his mate Sarah (Moonstone Series), as well as pack members Anders, Conall, Quinton, Hannah, and Gregory. The requisite evil has many faces. Anders’ story is next.

MALCOLM is a story of fated mates: betrayal and vengeance, power and control, relationships and acceptance. The premise is intriguing and dramatic; the characters are determined and dynamic.

I this new spin off series, its all about Malcolm and Larissa who help overthrow a bad alpha for their pack. Then the race is on to decide who gets to be the next alpha and these two compete for the position. But their competition was a riot and so much fun to watch as I laughed hard at times and others wanted to slap them both. Through the competition, drama and intrigue add to it all and cause trouble that these two and their close friends must overcome. A good story and fun characters to keep me entertained and trying to guess who would be the better alpha.

After the battle to depose their previous Alpha was a success the Sunburst Pack needs to choose a new Alpha. When both Malcolm and Larissa put their names forward the decision is taken to make it a competition seeing which one is a success at the various challenges that an Alpha would be expected to face. Being competitive from childhood and both determined to win, they discover their feelings for each other are stronger than they realized which could be a problem. When a threat arrives in the pack in the form of two people who had fought with the previous and destructive Alpha, Malcolm and Larissa discover a strength in working together and helps push them to a decision that will change the Pack for the better. Well written with lots of drama and twists and turns, this book is a real page-turner as it grabs you from the beginning. I loved reading this book and look forward to the next one.

This is an intricate tale of love, betrayal and pack. Larissa and Malcolm have trouble seeing what is in front of them. Their interactions are often funny and sometimes steamy. It's a good read.

Are they enemies, or rivals, or something else…

While I like the instant recognition of other stories this tale of mates where they have known each other for all their lives and just figure it out is refreshing and a realistic falling in love story. Coupled with a progressive shifter mythology and a fully formed cast of supporting characters this “world” becomes vivid and enticing. The angst, especially between Malcolm and Larissa is off the charts, but leading. The baddies are not the main focus but add some action and intrigue. I really enjoyed this PNR read.

This first in series, was an easy shifter read with multi pov.
This was my first book by Margo and I discovered later that this is the start of a spin-off. Even though I haven't read the former series prior, it was easy to follow this story. I do think that I will be complementary to read the other series first. As the multi pov in the beginning chapters hadn't made sense right away.

The story non the less was easy to follow, with a balanced mix between a slow burn romance (enemies to lovers style) and a mission full of action to fulfill. The writing was pleasant and flowed naturally.
A 3,5 star read for me. ⭐️

I would like to thank Margo for having me on the ARC team with this book

This is a great start to a new series. The characters are interesting and engaging, even as they seem to work at cross purposes.

Because the author had to create the environment, this novel began slowly. However, once the environment was set, it moved quickly.

I am a huge fan of the author 's wolf books and can't wait to see what she creates next. Fans of the genre will love this book.

Malcolm and Larissa are wolf shifters and have always been in competition with each other. After the old Alpha is killed and his reign of terror over, the pack needs a new alpha. Both Malcolm and Larissa apply for the role. Malcolm has brute strength on his side and Larissa is a strategist. They are put through several scenarios and the one who wins gets the position. They must confront their feelings and the bond they finally realize they have together. Can they work together for the good of the pack?
Shifters. A little steamy. Enemies to lovers.

Malcolm and Larissa have been competing with each other since they were pups. It is no surprise that both of them choose to run for the position of alpha of their pack now that Vincent has been vanquished. Malcolm is a warrior and feels the pack needs someone who is able to fight and protect. Larissa can fight, but she thinks it is time to use strategy and diplomacy to ally with other packs. There will be several challenges for the two contenders to face if they want to lead the pack. Malcolm and Larissa may find they will find that they want more than just competition. Maybe something a little closer to each other...

There will be some strife with old enemies to spice things up. There are some pretty funny shared memories of childhood competitions. Excellent lead-in to next book is included, also. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
