Kitty and Matt are asked to look into the murder of the father of a friend of Lucy, Kitty's cousin, and travel down to Cornwall, where they encounter their most baffling case yet.
This is a wonderfully paced story, with great characterisation and more twists than you could throw a wet sock at. The author has brought her usual high-standards to this case and I look forward to the continuation of this series.

Murder on the Cornish Coast by Helena Dixon is a Miss Underhay mystery. Kitty and Matt are attending a house party in Cornwall at the behest of Kitty’s cousin, Lucy. It was a very sad affair: Sir Victor Hedges had been attacked and killed near the docks the previous fall, and his daughter, Cordelia, their client, had been beaten severely. There was no suspect and Cordelia had no memory of what had happened. They and the rest of the entourage had been attending a birthday party for Cordelia’s stepsister, Rachel, on a yacht. Now Cordelia had determined to return and see if it could jog any memories loose. She had been under the care of a very modern doctor who used hypnotherapy in an attempt to retrieve memories, and had suggested the return.

Kitty and Matt are a wonderful couple, well-written, smart, and likable. Since their marriage they had been working as private detectives and appear to be making a go of it. They worked together, but just as often, apart. Kitty had a knack that was undeniable and was able to talk to people that Matt could not. The mystery was a good one, with a very sad end. The whole thing was sad, really: Cordelia’s father was dead and, a secret as yet, her stepmother was dying. As Kitty and Matt delved into sources the police had neglected, the picture became clear; the solution I had not guessed at. It was, as always an enjoyable read.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher; all opinions are my own. Murder in the Cornish coast is the latest in the long running series featuring Kitty and Matt. The duo travel to Cornwall to help their new client, Lady Cordelia, who believes someone is trying to kill her. Her father was killed the prior year with Lady Vordelia present, but she can't remember anything that happened. There is a fun cast of suspects and although I figured out the culprit, I still really enjoyed this story. Additionally, a new overarching mystery featuring Matt's past that I'm curious to see how it lays out.

March 1937 Kitty and Matt Bryant have been contacted by Lady Cordelia Hedges as she wants them to come to Highcliffe Hall in Cornwall to investigate the death of her father last August. Also since then there have been several incidents that have happened to her.
An entertaining and well-written historical cozy mystery with its likeable main characters supported by a cast of varied personalities. Another good addition to this enjoyable series.
An ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Kitty Underhay and her husband, Matt, are preparing for another investigation and will be traveling to St. Mawes. Kitty will be handling the majority of the tasks, as Matt is already involved in another investigation. Kitty was contacted by Lady Cordelia Hedges, who is very distraught and anxious as she narrowly escaped death after her father’s passing.

Cordelia’s family dynamics are a bit complicated. Her father remarried, leaving her with a stepmother and stepsister. Also, she’s engaged, and her family and fiancé are among the guests at a glamorous party. This setting provides Kitty with the perfect opportunity to discreetly observe the surroundings and search for answers.

However, Cordelia experiences a terror that has her screaming late into the night. Then, another murder takes place. What Kitty clearly sees is that there are very few suspects as to the crimes taking place, so she takes extra notice of the guests present.

What another delightfully intriguing mystery to unravel! Nineteen books into this series, and it remains as fresh and captivating as ever. I adore both Kitty and Matt, and of course, their lovable bulldog, Bertie. I also appreciate how the author subtly mentions Matt’s PTSD, even though it wasn’t officially diagnosed at the time. I mention this because I’m particularly moved by Kitty’s tender care for Matt during his episodes. My Kindle is already hinting at my eagerness for book twenty.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Murder On The Cornish Coast' by Helena Dixon.

This book was very well written and as always the fact that Helena has done her research is clearly evidenced in the storyline so a MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to Helena!!! There is not much worse than an author who has not researched much or at all about his chosen topic which means the book is unnecessarily littered with mistakes which can ruin a storyline!! However, Helena has completely avoided this by doing her research on the era she has set this amazing series in. This is the nineteenth book in Helena's 'A Miss Underhay Mystery' series it can be read as a standalone as can the rest of the books in this series.

Yet another hugely successful addition in this fantastic series by the very talented Helena!! I have read many, in fact almost all, of the books in this amazing series and have loved each and every one. The fact that Helena manages to come up with a unique storyline for each of her NINETEEN books in this series really does show what an incredibly talented author she is, I could not even come up with one story plot let alone this many individual and unique ones so well done yet again Helena!! I am not usually a fan of reading books out of order but if you have never read any of Helena's books before there is nothing to fear!! You can start with this one and the silver lining of reading books out of order is that after you have finished this book (and got addicted which I can guarantee you will!) you can go back to read the previous books in the series while you are impatiently waiting for the next book to be released!!! Speaking of which, the next book in this series is called 'Murder At The English Manor' and you can preorder it now ready for its release date on the 23rd May which cannot come soon enough! Not only do each of the books in this series have unique storylines but each and every one are just as gripping, addictive and successful as the last!! The storyline was extremely interesting and very fast paced. Helena completely emerges the reader into the storyline and as always her vivid and evocative writing skills brings the atmosphere, sights sounds and characters to life ensuring the reader is completely sucked into the storyline seeing and feeling everything the characters are. I really enjoy the fact that this series is set in the past and the storyline really suited that. It really is a nice, easy to read and fun cosy mystery that will keep you guessing throughout. I wont say anything about the storyline itself as the synopsis does a perfect job of that so if you want to know more you will just have to grab your copy of this absolutely brilliant page turner to find out for yourselves and I promise that you will not regret it!! With a storyline ram packed with crime, history, love, murder, family, romance, Cornwall, twists and everything you can ask for and more in a cosy crime what on Earth are you waiting for? This book truly is an absolutely fantastic addition to this amazing series with yet another brilliant location that Helena transports the reader too!! I have loved going traveling with Kitty and Matt from their hometown in Dartmouth to Yorkshire, The Highlands to France, now in Cornwall!! Even the murder settings are varied and the storylines have included investigating murders in a country house to a boat, on a train to at a wedding, at a beauty pageant to a fair, in a castle to an Island!! Helena comes up with somewhere different each and every time and I cannot wait to travel to an English Manor with her in Kitty and Matt's next adventure!!! At no point did I suspect who was doing what or why so a huge well done there Helena!!! That cliff hanger at the end I would have never seen coming and my jaw literally dropped to the floor!! I have read many a mystery and find that I am working out the killer/perp quicker every time and there's nothing worse than working out who did what when your need even half way through a book. Not only is this quite a suspense and action filled mystery but there was just the right amount of quirkiness, laughter and romance to give it a nice mix!!! It is one of those books that once I started it I just could not put it down and devoured it in several hours, flying through each and every chapter!! A fun, addictive, unputdownable cosy crime mystery. Helena's brilliant evocative and emotive descriptions and writing skills really do bring the characters, atmosphere and locations to life and I felt as if I was walking around seeing and feeling the Cornish surroundings myself. I had been to holiday in Cornwall in March last year where I fell in love with it and missed it before I read this book but OMG Helena has made me want to jump in the car and go straight back now!!! Thankfully I am returning to St Ives again in April so I don't have long to wait to return even though after this book it really does feel like I have just this second returned after leaving there!!! Helena's stunning evocative writing skills ensures the readers are absolutely sucked into the stunning storyline with the atmosphere and characters coming to life all around them. I was so absorbed in the storyline that on the rare occasion that I actually did look up it took me a few moments to realise where and when I actually was!! I was devastated to come to the end and leave Cornwall for gloomy and rainy Wales!! As always with Helena's books there never is any point telling myself I will read a few chapters and then get some work done as I never manage to and this book is no exception!! I ended up devouring it in one sitting of several hours and was absolutely hooked throughout! This is a fantastic series and if you have never read any of Helena's previous books then you are definitely missing out. I, personally, would like to add that I think each storyline has got better and better which is a very rare thing for a series.

Although this is the nineteenth book in Helena's 'A Miss Underhay Mystery' series I would have had absolutely no problems reading it without any of the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

I have really become invested in all of these amazing characters since the first book I read in this fantastic series and I really enjoy meeting Kitty and her fantastic and quirky personality each and every time!!! In fact all of the characters have their own individual personalities which worked really well with each other. They have all become like a family to me and I always hate saying goodbye to them at the end of the book. It has been lovely seeing them all grow, develop and mature since I have started reading this series. The relationship is between Kitty and Matt which has been an honour to see grow from friends to partners and finally husband and wife!! They are all like friends to me and as always I am looking forward to meeting them all again in the next 'episode' of Mrs Bryant's adventures which I'm sure will be just as exciting as this one!! The next book in the series is called 'Murder At The English Manor' and you can preorder it now ready for its release date on the 23rd May!! I am off to preorder my copy as soon as I have finished typing this up! A fantastic group of characters for yet another fantastic addition to an addictive series!!! Here's to meeting them all again in the next book 🥂!!!

Well done Helena on yet another fantastic success and here's to the next addition to an addictive page turning series 🥂!!!

Overall a perfect mix of mystery, crime, romance, laughter and quirkiness which kept me turning the pages late at night!!

I really enjoyed reading this story. It was fast paced. I did not want to put down. You would think after 19 books there wouldn't be no more stories, but Ms. Dixon does an amazing job keeping our interest. Highly recommend the whole series.

I always loved how Helena Dixon pays homage to Golden Age mysteries and plays with the tropes using them to deliver compelling and entertaining historical cozy mysteries
Kitty and Matt are sort of friend I'm always happy to meet and catch up with them. Bertie is as cute as always.
There's a dark undercurrent in this mystery, there's betrayal, dysfunctional family relationships, and strong emotions. Golden Age mysteries are often quite dark and full of psychological insight into the mind and the actions of the characters
Ms Dixon plays with the different tones and the story never drags or bores.
There's a subplot that is quite intriguing and I can't wait to read the next story.
Read it and have fun, it's highly recommended

Murder on the Cornish Coast is book 19 in the Miss Underhay series but like most cozy mysteries, you don't have to read all the previous books to enjoy this one. Actually, this might be a good one to start with as a new overarching mystery is started in this book and will probably last for several more.

As Matt and Kitty travel to help Lady Cordelia solve the murder of her father, we don't see man of the regular characters in the series. Kitty's grandmother and Mrs. Craven have a short scene in the beginning and Inspector Lewis is seconded to the police department near St Mawes to assist with the murder investigation. So again, this would be a great book to start with if you haven't picked up this series before as the cast is pretty small.

It seems that Matt and Kitty are more observers in this mystery rather than sleuths as they are hoping Lady Cordelia recovers her memories. They do try to piece together the the events of that night from what she does remember along with the recollections of the other members of the party. Because Kitty and Matt aren't running around looking for clues, we get more time with them just being together which is nice.

It also gives Matt time to look into a person from his past. At the very end of the last book, Murder in New York, Matt catches a glimpse of a person he thought died during the war. He attended the man's funeral but Matt can't shake the feeling that this person is really him. We get a few clues about what happened the night the man supposedly died at the convalescence hospital but this is being set up to follow through at least a few books. Early in this series, we had the mystery of Kitty's mother's murder which last for several books but it has been a while since they've taken up a case that wasn't solved in the pages of the current book. I'm looking forward to this new mystery.

If you are looking for a fun, easy read then this is a great book to pick up.

Book 19 in the Kitty Underhay series and it feels as fresh and fun a read as the earlier instalments in the series. This time around Kitty and Matt are quietly investigating the potential attempted murder of Lady Cordelia Hedges who was previously attacked along with her father and left with amnesia whilst her father was killed.

Secrets, red herrings and murderous events abound as Kitty and Matt do what they do best and drive down their leads to come to a satisfying and surprising conclusion. Matt's side quest into solving the mystery of Redvers reappearance is also an interesting diversion and I'm looking forward to that reaching its conclusion in the next book or two

What makes this series such a comfort read for me is that I love the core cast of characters and there's usually one or two new additions who leave an impression, this time young Archie is the hero of the day and a character I hope makes a return somehow in the future. The stories and cases are always intriguing and fun and the familiarity of it all makes it a truly cosy and satisfying read for me.

As always a winner and I'm looking forward to Book 20!

I love this series, so I was delighted to read this new adventure. Very clever plot that kept me guessing the whole time. I didn't expect the ending. This may be my favourite adventure from this series so far!

Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a good cosy mystery.

Moving from the Devon coast to the Cornish one for the nineteenth outing for Kitty Underhay.

When Lady Cordelia Hedges finds herself attacked on the same day her father is found floating in the harbour, she is convinced that there is something afoot and it is up to Kitty and Matt to get to the bottom of it.

A return to the very place it happened with Kitty and Matt in tow, seems the perfect way to get to the truth. But when a mysterious stranger is said to appear in Cordelia's bedroom, a blood soaked knife behind a curtain and some poisoned chocolates, it seems that not everything is as it seems.

Another historical cosy mystery that needs solving and the perfect escapism with familiar characters.

A Helena Dixon mystery is guaranteed to be a fabulous read, and the 19th book featuring Kitty Underhay (now Bryant) is no exception. In fact, the series is going from strength to strength.

Left for dead after the murder of her father, Lady Cordelia Hedges hires Kitty and Matt to investigate. The brutal attack left her with severe memory loss, but as the memories return, so does the danger.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, as we're left wondering how reliable Cordelia's memory is, and we're often wrong footed. The people closest to her are sceptical of her claims that her life is in danger, but is their scepticism a ploy to hide their own secrets? In a Cornish manor surrounded by people who may have ulterior motives to keep Cordelia's memories buried, Kitty and Matt have a tricky case on their hands.

Aside from the main case of the novel, Matt continues to be haunted by the ghost from his past that appeared at the end of the last novel, and the mystery deepens as more information comes to light, and we learn more about the horrors faced in the aftermath of the Great War.

An expertly crafted mystery that I just had to read in one sitting, and the series continues to be one of my must-reads.

The Miss Underhay Mysteries by Helena Dixon are some of my all time favourite cosy crimes. So when a chance to review Murder on the Cornish Coast came up, I jumped on it.

This is the 19th book in the series, and this time Kitty and Matt (and Bertie, of course) are off to Cornwall to help Lady Cordelia Hedges try and work out both what happened when her father was murdered a few months earlier, and who is trying to kill her now. They are also investigating a mysterious reappearance from Matt’s past.

I very much enjoyed visiting the Cornish coast, and Highcliffe Hall. A real sense of the village right on the shore came through, as well as the large house just outside it.

There were an interesting collection of characters staying at Highcliffe Hall, any one of whom could be the murderer. It was great fun trying to work out who the culprit was, alongside Kitty and Matt.

Overall, this was another fascinating mystery with favourite characters.

I was given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own.

Book 19 in the series! A bright blue sky, a glamorous boating party, an English manor house on the Cornish cliffs… and surely not another murder! Get Kitty Underhay on the case!. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher for the copy. What a gorgeous book! The author has a great gift for characterisation - nuanced, interesting, believable people.

I’ve been spending a couple of days with Kitty and Matt at an estate on the Cornish coast. They were invited by Lady Cordelia when she hired them to find out who was trying to kill her. Last summer after a birthday party for her sister, Rachel, Lady Cordelia was attacked and her father was killed. No perpetrator was found yet Lady Cordelia claims that several attempts have been made on her life now that she’s starting to remember what happened on that fateful night.

Well the other guests greet the arrival of Matt and Kitty as the locked room mystery deepens. It’s clear that someone in the big old house has murder on the mind. The red herrings are plenty and the suspects twist and turn with the events. A breakthrough occurs when a noted therapist arrives to help Lady Cordelia by hypnotizing her.

This was quite enjoyable and I had fun seeing my suspicions play out as I helped Matt and Kitty solve their case. I think most fans will appreciate the unexpected. I’ve read all previous books in this series and it’s always great that the stories stay fresh. Definitely recommend any new reader start with the first installment and read all of the books in order for maximum pleasure.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this e-book ARC to read, review, and recommend to anyone who enjoys historical cozy mysteries. The period details are spot on and the descriptions take me back to another place and time.

Books 19 finds Matt and Kitty travelling to Cornwall to investigate a previous murder and the attack of Lady Cordelia who is still suffering from amnesia.

Who doesn't want Lady Cordelia to remember what happened that night? Her jealous step-sister, the family doctor or even her fiancés. Who stands to benefit from her death?

A book not to miss in this wonderful, fun and witty series!!

Kitty has been asked to investigate some fishy goings-on in the beautiful coastal village of St Mawes. The body of Lady Cordelia Hedges’ beloved father was found floating in the sea, and shortly afterwards Cordelia herself was almost killed. Determined to piece together the puzzle, Kitty & Matt travel to Cornwall. Later that evening, a scream wakes Kitty in the middle of the night: Lady Cordelia is sitting bolt upright in bed, swearing someone has been in her room. As Bertie the dog retrieves a knife from behind the curtain, Kitty’s list of suspects grows. Then a house guest eats a poisoned chocolate from a box addressed to Cordelia and dies. Matt is also investigating a more personal case
The nineteenth book in the series & it’s still as fresh as the first. I love both Matt & Kitty & love how both their personal & business relationships have blossomed throughout the series. Another intriguing case, there were twists, turns & red herrings, whilst I whittled it down to two of the house guests I couldn’t work out which one it was or the reasons why. Then there was Matt’s case, he made some progress but there’s still plenty to find out especially as it happened so long ago. I love this series & was engrossed in the book & read it in two sittings
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own

It was 1937 in Cornwall when Kitty was visited by Lady Cordelia Hedges who had been seriously injured a few months prior, at the same time her father had been murdered. Now she was sure someone was trying to kill her. Her memory of the time was broken; her psychologist was trying to help Cordelia regain her memories so perhaps they could discover who the killer was. Cordelia invited Kitty and Matt to the small village of St Mawes, where it all took place; her idea was being in the familiar area might jog those memories free.

As Kitty and Matt mingled with the other guests, who were also at the event where Sir Victor was killed, they could feel the tension in the air. Everyone knew what the aim was, but no one seemed comfortable with it. Would they find the killer before it was too late?

Murder on the Cornish Coast is the 19th in the Miss Underhay series by Helena Dixon and it was brilliant! The twist at the end was not something I saw coming! Kitty, Matt and their bulldog, Bertie, are very familiar characters; it's like catching up with old friends each episode. I'm loving the series, and long may it continue! Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for my digital ARC to read and review.

An unsolved murder, a daughter left battered with little recall of the events and a man who should be dead, but it would seem may not be, sees Kitty Bryant and her husband Matt become deeply involved in a situation that just seems to get more complicated by the hour, in Murder on the Cornish Coast, another complex murder from Helena Dixon.
Following on from Matt and Kitty’s return to England from New York, Matt decides he needs to further investigate the death of his Army friend Redvers Palmerston, a man whose funeral he had attended. He is positive he saw him in the waiting crowd when their ship docked.
Meanwhile Kitty has a visit from a distressed young lady, Lady Cordelia Hedges, who is convinced someone is trying to kill her. Her father, Sir Victor Hugo had been murdered at St Mawes and she had also been viciously attacked on the same night. No one has been arrested for either incident.
She is looking for answers and invites Matt and Kitty to a weekend event at Highcliffe Hall to mark her return to the place where she was attacked. Her therapist thinks it could help her unlock memories of the terrible events that occurred there.
But all is far from what it seems at Highcliffe Hall, with secrets apparently being kept, personalities clashing and a string of events occurring that make absolutely no sense at all.
Kitty and Matt find they have no easy answers. Kitty eventually decides perhaps the downstairs staff are able to share some information that may help, as servants know almost everything that goes on, even behind closed doors!
Matt considers this a somewhat drastic step, but knows once Kitty is determined to follow instinct, it is best to let her get on with the task. When another murder occurs, Kitty begins to think that perhaps there may be a clue in what has tragically occurred.
Murder on the Cornish Coast book 19 in the Miss Underhay Mystery series is an intriguing and intricate murder mystery that keeps the killer well-hidden and will keep you guessing who did it, until the final tragic reveal.
