This book is a mix of thriller, paranormal, and police procedural that I haven't come across before. I thought the characters were excellent and realistic in the situations that they were going through and the ghost story added a fun twist as well. I appreciated how empathetic Douglas was toward characters that were clearly struggling with mental health issues and even included a piece in the back to address those issues and how to get help. Great book, great story, great narration.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author Angela Douglas, and Dreamscape Media for my advance copy of this audiobook.

3 stars because the writing and storyline is just fine, it’s just extremely boring subject matter to me. I’ve been waiting for something to draw me in and nothing has. I like the audiobook narrators for the roles that they have, but I just needed more content to make it through.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Dreamscape Media for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. I sincerely appreciate it!

This is, in a word, fine. Every fall is simply unremarkable, though it follows many typical plot points, twists and storylines as some well crafted thriller novels. One of my largest complaints is the lack of depth in the characters and the unwarned inclusion of paranormal themes which don't seem to mesh well with what appears to be the planned course of the story.
Somehow the author tries to write horror, detective, thriller and paranormal tropes all at once which leaves much of the story flat.
The narrators did a great job with what they were given.

If you like Karin Slaughter then I think you will love this book. I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to the end of this book. It's a very dark and gritty plot, but that just adds to the story.

3.5 Stars
This book was an awesome combo of domestic drama/thriller and police procedural all rolled into one. I don't usually gravitate toward police investigative type books but with the lure of the domestic drama/thriller piece - I was sucked in. I absolutely loved the narration and the dual POVs too. There was never a dull moment and all of the solid elements - plot, story, suspense, narration, drama put together made this a quick listen.
If you're looking for a book that will draw you in from the start and keep you guessing, this is it!

This book was pretty dark in exploring mental health, trauma, toxic police culture and also had some seemingly paranormal twists.
This town of East Bernheim is the Canadian equivalent of the town Black Harbor in the series by Hannah Morrissey. It feels like every criminal and every bad thing happens in the town.
Jake Stone is a constable with the RCMP and when he’s involved in a case with a gang, his work starts following him home and putting his wife Bree and his son in danger. They decide to move further away but there’s some stories about the house they rented and weird things start happening. Between work and a small child, both Bree and Jake aren’t getting enough sleep so you keep wondering if it’s all in their heads, if it’s paranormal or if a gang member is trying to break in.
There are a lot of triggers in this book & would urge you to seek them out if needed before reading.
I really enjoyed the audiobook version & the 2 narrators. It kept the change in perspectives really clear.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and Dreamscape media for the ALC.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced thriller. I listened to the audio book, and the narration is excellent! This is a thriller, but I would also say it has family drama, police procedure, and a ghost story. Parts of it are pretty creepy. I highly recommend this one - especially the audio version.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you Netgalley for this audio edition of Every Fall by Angela Douglas.
I guess I can see what the author was trying to do with this one, showing the dark side of police families. I just don't know about the execution, it was weak to me, and devolved way too quickly. I just wasn't a fan, it was hard to really get invested.

This was a dark domestic thriller that tackles heavy issues from postpartum depression, infidelity, trauma and more. While it was a bit too much for me personally, I'm sure it will appeal to fans of police procedurals and authors like Karin Slaughter. The insights into the negative side of criminal protection culture was interesting and it was good on audio. My first by Angela Douglas and a solidly written story. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review.

Bree and Jake Stone live in a rough area due to Jake’s job requirements as a RCMP. They have a young son, Riley, and are expecting a second child as well. Life is tough for Jake as a police officer. Career criminal brothers, the Skaggs, know where Jake lives and have seen him out with his wife and child. When they show up at the family’s condo, it’s too much for Bree. Bree and Jake hatch a plan to rent out the condo and move to a much quieter, safer neighborhood. But things in the new neighborhood start to go awry as well. There are stories of ghosts and strange happenings at the house shared by neighbors.
There is a lot going on in terms of plot in this book. It was fast paced action all the way through. To avoid spoiling the book I won’t go into detail. Many big topics are covered or touched on, such as postpartum depression, PTSD, death, and marriage. Some parts were a bit unrealistic, but overall it was a good snapshot of this couple’s life.
There was a murder, but not really a mystery. There was suspense, but not a lot of juicy twists and turns. This typically would have disappointed me but the story drew me in. However, I couldn’t really connect with the characters, and they didn’t seem to really develop as the novel progressed. The ghost element was something out of my wheelhouse and wasn’t really a main focus, although it was brought up from time to time. I thought there was an opportunity to further develop that aspect of the plot. Instead it just seemed like it was just background noise, even if it was essential to the plot.
I listened to the audiobook. There were two narrators and three perspectives covered. I thought both of the narrators brought their A game. They each gave personality to the characters, and didn’t annoy me, which is my common complaint. I went into it thinking it was a murder mystery so I was slightly disappointed to realize it wasn’t, but there were elements of the plot that kept my interest. I liked that to book opened with a quote from Confucius that seemingly inspired the title. That was unexpected. Although this audiobook was unrealistic at points, it was a decent listen overall.

This is a thriller/suspense/psychological novel that deals with post partum depression, first responder PTSD, the toll of this on a marriage, etc It keeps you hanging for what's next. Keeps you trying to figure it out, and throws surprises along the way. I listened to it on a road trip and it definitely kept me awake!
Well done.
Thanks to NetGalley

Police procedural, a haunting, and a psychological thriller all in one....sign me up! My heart was racing through most of this ALC trying to figure out what was going on-was it a real haunting, was it postpartum psychosis, was it all of it put together? I truly couldn't put it down. I liked the character development. I could feel everything that Bree was going through in her struggles as a new mom in a new town with a distant husband. Jake frustrated me at times with his guilt and taking it all out on Bree and the baby. I can see why a lot of people didn't like him. The narrators did a great job relaying the fear and emotions needed to make this a great listen. Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape media for the opportunity to listen to this ALC. All opinions are my own.

I appreciate NetGalley and Dreamscape Media allowing me to review the ALC of this book. I really liked the choice of narrators but I didn’t care for the book as much as I’d hoped. The main male character just made me angry and the ending was not quite what I had hoped. It seems to be a rush to wrap up in the last hour of it. I also felt the story would’ve been the same without the little ghost aspects - it felt odd to have them in there by the end, even with their help. I think more background and interaction may have been beneficial in this case. It’s not a book that I WOULDN’T ever recommend, but wouldn’t be the top of my list.

Initially, I found it difficult to get into due to the dual first-person POV and the writing style. However, once I adjusted, I was fully immersed in the story. The book took unexpectedly dark and graphic turns, which added to the intensity and suspense.
The characters were well-developed, particularly Bree, whose struggles as a stay-at-home mom were portrayed with depth and authenticity. Her emotions, isolation, and fears felt incredibly real, and I found myself empathizing with her situation. Her husband Jake’s job introduced an unsettling dynamic to their marriage, and the way the story explored the impact of his work on their family was heartbreaking and frustrating in equal measure.

Every Fall by Angela Douglas was a solid listen, but not without its flaws. ⭐⭐⭐.75 George Newbern's narration was excellent, as always, and the story itself was definitely interesting. However, there was something about the plot or the characters that didn't quite resonate with me. It just lacked that extra something to make it truly gripping and memorable.

I enjoyed this story, the characters were good. I was worried they were going to split up but was glad they didn't. Also wasn't sure where we were going with the haunted house aspect.

I really wanted to like this book. I loved the narrators. I was interested in the plot. But. The main male character pissed me off. I really tried to like this book. I just found it a little to meandering and I got tired of trying to figure out when something was going to happen.

Every Fall gave me strong The Shining vibes with its eerie atmosphere and psychological tension. It was a quick, easy read that kept my attention the whole way through, but I can’t shake the feeling of being a little let down by the ending. That said, I really liked how Bree took control towards the end, it was satisfying to see her step up. Overall, it was an engaging read, just not quite as impactful as I’d hoped.. Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC!

First off, thanks to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for this ALC.
The narration absolutely saved this read for me. It made what ended up being a chaotic story feel much more fluid, especially with the dual perspectives. When I first started reading, it took a while to get truly invested. I knew going in that this was about a new mom married to a first responder, dealing with the challenges that come with that life, but I kept waiting for the thriller aspect to really kick in. I actually enjoyed the paranormal moments because, otherwise, the story felt kind of boring.
Now, part of this is on me. Lately, I’ve read a lot of books that focus on motherhood—the weight of it, the struggles, the domestic responsibilities, the loneliness. It’s a theme that’s been on the rise in both fiction and domestic thrillers, and Every Fall felt repetitive in comparison to similar stories already out there. I was waiting for it to differentiate itself, and while the horror elements had promise, I wish they had been introduced sooner and weren’t so rushed by the end.
The story itself is fine. We follow a husband and wife with a young child, expecting their second, while dealing with a move meant to protect them from potential retaliation linked to one of the husband’s cases. They’re also grieving the loss of his partner. But the issue is…I just didn’t care about what was happening to this family. There wasn’t enough background on the supposed threat to make me feel like they were ever truly in danger. And when they move into their new home, it’s blatantly obvious something isn’t right—from how fast the sale happened to the neighbors warning them about creepy things happening there. Yet, they ignore every red flag.
I think the author was trying to show how people rationalize ignoring warning signs, but there were just so many poor decisions that the story would’ve ended a lot sooner if the couple had simply communicated better. The husband spends most of the book drinking himself into oblivion, resenting his wife for having another baby, while she tiptoes around him, feeling trapped in her own marriage. I get that this dynamic can be compelling, but it’s also something I’ve seen done so many times before. Unhappy wife, unhappy husband, husband seeks comfort elsewhere, wife struggles with motherhood—it just didn’t stand out.
For most of the book, I was waiting for the paranormal aspect to really elevate the tension, but it never quite got there. It also felt like there were too many things going on while somehow also not enough happening at the same time. I’m torn between a 2.5 and 3-star rating—not because it was bad, but because nothing about it really stood out.
Honestly, the most memorable part of the book was Tammy—another cop’s wife who the protagonist is told to avoid for no clear reason. Instead, she ends up being the wife’s closest confidante. I wish Tammy had been the villain or that her role had been explored further. It just felt like a throwaway plot point. But I will say, her narration was spot on and made her character unforgettable. The narrators truly carried this book, and I’ll definitely be checking out future projects they work on.

As they try to protect their family, they are faced with guilt, grief, and haunting nightmares. Every Fall delves into themes of trauma and toxicity in the police force, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.
This book is incredibly dark and chilling, and I absolutely loved it! The fast-paced narrative includes some paranormal elements that immediately drew me in and left me wanting more. The story, at times, was frustrating, adding a touch of reality that made the paranormal aspects feel even more plausible.
I particularly enjoyed the character development and the eerie atmosphere of the old, creepy house. These elements really enhanced the overall story and kept me engaged until the very end. The plot twists took me by surprise, but I found them to be incredibly satisfying. Thank you NetGalley, the author and the publisher for access to the arc audiobook.
