Wow 🤩 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Full stars for this debut novel, Every Fall written by Angela Douglas!
I was sucked in and obsessed with this book, devouring the entire book in TWO DAYS!!! This book was so hard to put down!
Bree and Jake are married couple living life as a young married couple with a young baby, busy LEO career and find out they have another baby on the way. However, life begins to become a struggle with Jake as a police officer in a crime riddled city when a gangster and his crew target Bree and their children after a falling out in the job.
When Jake responds to a domestic call regarding a pregnant woman, their lives completely change. Jake is now riddled with nightmares, visions and intense anxiety.
This story was a thriller with some paranormal mixed in. Highly recommend!
Thank you NetGalley, Angela Douglas and Rising Action Publishing for my ARC audiobook! Can't wait to see what new novels Angela Douglas comes out with next!
I’m going to start with the positive. The narration of the audiobook was great. Andi Arndt and George Newbern are among my favorite narrators, which was a big reason for me to listen to this ALC. they did a great job bringing the characters to life. They were able to capture the personalities and quirks of the characters perfectly.
With that being said, the story fell flat for me. I liked it, but I didn’t LOVE it. Why? There were several different aspects to the story that I felt didn’t really come together. It is part police procedural, part domestic suspense and part paranormal (which I was not expecting). I felt like the ending was rushed and while all of the questions were KIND OF answered, I felt like there was so much more potential in the ending and we didn’t get that. I don’t need everything tied up in a perfect little bow, but I was hoping for more.
Definitely check trigger warnings before starting this book.
Thank you to NetGalley amd Dreamscape Media for the ALC in exchange for an honest review.

A very BIG thank you to #NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for sending me this ALC in return for my honest review!
This book is told from the point of view of two people: Bree, the wife/mother and Jake, the husband/father.
About this book : When the book begins Bree and Jake are pretty newly married with a toddler boy. Jake works as a cop in pretty bad crime infested city. One day something happens at work and Jake’s wife and son’s lives are put in danger. Both Bree and Jake want desperately to move, Jake will lose his job if they move out of the city/jurisdiction. Together they come up with a plan to move somewhere an hour away so Jake can still commute back and forth, and to rent out their place in the city so work doesn’t know he’s moved.
They move to a bigger house in what seems to be a better neighborhood. Life seems good until Bree becomes pregnant with their second baby. Bree starts experiencing awful nightmares, objects being moved in the house with no explanation, and strange voices.
At work Jake suffers a horrible tragedy and his life totally starts to unravel. Jake’s entire demeanor begins to change around his family. The one loving husband/father is totally unrecognizable to his wife.
Bree struggles to keep herself afloat and to protect her kids, not just from her husband but from something possibly sinister lurking in her house.
My thoughts: I absolutely LOVED this book! My very first 5 STAR read of 2025 👏👏👏
This one had me on the edge of my seat the entire time! I love that it has these creepy paranormal elements, but there are so many other parts to this story as well! Like so so much! And it helps to give the audience such a great understanding of PPD and PTSD. I very highly recommend this book! You will not be disappointed.
The narrators for this audiobook, Andi Arndt and George Newbern did an amazing job bringing this book and these characters to life!

Every Fall by Angela Douglas
Narrated by Andi Arndt; George Newbern
This is a Mystery Thriller with something else thrown in. It worked very well for me, I liked how this extra stuff was handled. I also liked that we got an epilogue to allow us to know how things were going after all the mayhem of earlier. Who makes it to the epilogue, I'm not saying.
Bree met her husband, Jake, after he was already a cop, already well established at his job, so she missed the spouse/partner introductions that might have come along when her husband first joined the force. It's clear that they must have married too fast, while they were still in the honeymoon phase of getting together because Bree needed to have seen Jake's moodiness before she married him. This is a guy set in his ways, not wanting work to mix with home, and holding in all the work related stuff that is coming out instead as anger at his wife and the world.
When bad guys target Jake and his family and then cause a great loss, the marriage of Bree and Jake is dangling like a lit dynamite fuse. Bree is stuck with no job, no money, living in a weird old house in a questionable neighborhood, caring for a toddler and a newborn. Jake won't talk to her very often and when he does it's in anger. They both are hearing and seeing things and they are trapped inside this mess of a marriage.
I just kept going from one chapter to the next, not able to stop the story for anything. I knew I wanted to listen to this audiobook just by seeing the two narrators since I enjoy their work. George Newbern is so distinctive, he can narrate good guys but it's his not so good guys that really irk me in a way that fits so well in this book. This is more than just a mystery thriller, it also is a window into the suffering of first responders and their families. Be sure to check out the trigger warnings in the synopsis because this story will hit you with real life in a way that hurts.
Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for this ARC.

I had the audiobook read by Andi Arndt, George Newbern who are good at infusing tension.
An impressive chiller debut that’s most unusual. It grabbed my interest straight away. There’s lots going on, the reader is left wondering early on if the events are due to paranormal activity or post partum depression which left me feeling unsettled for much of the book.
There are potentially triggers as several heavy topics are covered.
The two main characters are Bree a new mom, and Jake a police officer working and living in one of the roughest areas. I didn’t really gel with either of the characters, but Jake takes the biscuit with his behaviour.
It kept me entertained and has some action to go with the twists and reveals.
Angela Douglas delivers a gripping and mind-bending story with Every Fall, a supernatural thriller that keeps readers questioning reality with every twist. From the opening chapter, the narrative plunges into a world where nothing is as it seems, drawing you into an intricately woven plot full of psychological tension and unexplainable phenomena.
The pacing of the book is one of its greatest strengths. Douglas masterfully builds tension, layering clues and subtle hints that keep you guessing. What seems nonsensical at first slowly comes into focus as the pieces fall into place, creating a satisfying “aha!” moment when everything clicks. This isn’t just a thriller; it’s a puzzle designed to challenge your assumptions and keep you hooked until the very end.
The supernatural elements add an extra dimension, blending seamlessly with the emotional and psychological depth of the characters. As the protagonist navigates these eerie, otherworldly experiences, you can’t help but feel drawn into their confusion and fear. It’s a testament to Douglas’s skill that the story remains grounded in human emotions despite its otherworldly themes.
Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Every Fall is the way it resolves. Unlike many thrillers that leave threads hanging or rely on ambiguous endings, this novel offers a complete and satisfying conclusion. Watching the story play out fully is like watching a fireworks display—each revelation adds to the spectacle until the final, explosive payoff.
Every Fall is not just a story—it’s an experience. If you enjoy thought-provoking plots, unexpected twists, and the thrill of unraveling a mystery that defies logic, this book is a must-read. Angela Douglas has crafted a novel that lingers in your mind long after you turn the final page.
This book had me questioning my sanity. I was quickly engrossed in the story but had several moments I cringed. It is intense and interesting with a few issues. Great read overall

This endorsement got my attention:
“A fast-paced psychological thriller that explores trauma, toxic police culture, and the different ways people can be haunted. A fresh,
unique page-turner.”
— Robyn Harding, Bestselling Author of The Haters
Jake and Bree are a young married couple with a 10 month old son Riley and a baby on the way. They lived in crime-ridden East Bernheim where Jake is a police officer. After Jake’s job follows him home and puts his family in danger, they move an hour away, hoping for a safer life.
They are hopeful the new place would be a fresh start, however Bree and Jack soon hear creaking floors, mysterious footsteps and find their windows open. Is it their imagination or have the bad guys found them? Perhaps they are sharing their new place with the ghost that rumors say lives there?????
Jake's job is becoming more and more difficult and his aggression increases. Bree is consumed with two young children Riley is now a toddler and Ivy is a baby.
I have no doubt that being a police office is difficult but I was finding this story with a bit too much nasty police trauma.
I understood why a few readers gave up on it. I am not a fan of profanity and these characters don’t know any other way to express themselves. I am a big psychological thriller fan and I do like paranormal stories additionally I love to support debut authors so hung in there.
Yes!! The twist was a surprise that I found satisfying.
Additionally I liked the ending.
At the end of the story author, Angela Douglas provides a great reference section. I like when an author tackles tough topics that they provide useful reference.
I look forward to her next story – and true I am hoping for less profanity
I want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this early audiobook.
Publishing Date scheduled for January 28, 2025.
“Every Fall” is a fast paced thriller with domestic drama and police but also with a paranormal side that I did not expect.
Thank you Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for an ALC. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
The main characters are Bree (currently a stay at home mom) and her husband Jake (a police officer).
I liked that the story has two POVs and the audiobook has dual narration by Andi Arndt and George Newbern. The story starts with a graphic violent scene that surprised me. The neighbor where Bree and Jack live is in a dangerous part of the city and because the family is threatened by some criminals they decide to move.
I did not like Jack in the beginning, he is almost completely desensitized by crime until one of his colleagues is killed. He also struggles with toxic masculinity as part of the toxic police culture. This contributes why his mental issues are not diagnosed in time and treated.
The narrator managed to capture the way I imagine he would sound in real life and helped me understand the character better.
Bree also has struggles with postpartum depression and insomnia that is made worse by the isolation from friends and family. Andi Arndt did a good job portraying her character.
The story kept me engaged and scared in some parts that I finished it in ine day. There are moments full of tension, twists and has an unexpected ending.
This book gives dual POV from Bree and Jake, a married couple. Jake is a cop and Bree is a new mom to their baby boy. They live in a rough neighborhood that is full of crime.
While Jake prides himself keeping home and work separate, one day work follows him home and threatens the safety of his family. This leads them to move away to a better neighborhood for their family.
A bit of paranormal/ creepiness with the new house they move into. Also a look into the realities of police life and marriage. Several mixed themes in this story. Intense topics tackled in this one.
Narration- excellent! One of my faves- Andi Arndt
Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC in exchange for an honest review. Release date 1/28.
Every Fall started out really hard to listen to. I didn’t like the descriptions of the toxic culture of the police department, I definitely didn’t like Jake after the story got going, I hated Amber, I didn’t like hearing Bree’s thoughts about hurting her children, I didn’t like how trapped she felt. But then….I wanted to know the story behind the ghost in their house and I kept thinking surely it can’t get worse. So, I kept listening and boy what a powerful story about PTSD, postpartum depression, and the lives of police officers and their families.
I should not have listened to this. My sweet baby boy has decided to be a cop and has now finished school and taken has an oath of office. I know this is a traumatizing career that leads to women being harmed.
I really wanted to save Jakes Wife,
I did not want to save Jake. I know the book is about how the cops suffer but wow he is the worst. I love the narration and I love the twists. I love the setting and all the weird stuff.
I do have a lot to process now.
Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an early release audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 stars
Bree and Jake live in a not very safe area near his job as a patrolman. After several incidences, they move farther away to a bigger place in a better neighborhood. Some strange things are happening in their new home and Jake is struggling at home and work. Is it mental health or more supernatural?
I enjoyed Andi Arndt and George Newbern's narration.
Such an enjoyable thriller!I wasn’t exactly sure where the story was going for a while, it could have easily taken us down a couple different paths, I not only enjoyed the path the book took but also appreciate it not being predictable! The audio version was multi cast and easy to listen to/follow.
Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the audio ARC!
"Every Fall" fell flat for me.
WHY?
I was not the right reader for this thriller exploring the dark side of police culture and family trauma.
Unfortunately, the publisher's blurb was inaccurate.
There was no mention of "horror" and "paranormal" in the publisher's blurb.
As the book progressed, the "horror" and "paranormal" elements appeared.
😭😭😭😭
I am not a fan of the "horror" and/or "paranormal" genres.
Readers were warned upfront about domestic abuse, also not one of my favorite genres.
I selected the book because I was enticed by my two favorite narrators, Andi Arndt and George Newbern.
Both narrators did an outstanding job with the narration.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
It was good but not that thrilling. I feel like the paranormal aspect really took a back seat. Hated the husband but I think that was the point.
A very good debut thriller/police procedural with elements of paranormal and horror. Merging all of these genres can be tricky, but it worked well here. George Newbern and Andi Arndt are excellent in the audiobook production. I love this cover!
Bree is new to being a first responder spouse and living the rough East Bernheim, nicknamed Burner, has left her feeling even more uneasy. Her husband Jake recently had a run in with a gang that has found where they live. Hoping to have safer place to raise their children, Jake and Bree rent a home an hour away from Burner. Things seem to be improving and while a Jake is home for paternity leave, a tragic call comes in from his department. Jake begins to spiral with grief, guilt, and stress, leaving Bree feeling isolated and alone with their 2 children. Bree feels like someone is in the new house with her. She's seeing things that aren't there and doesn't know who to turn to since Jake has pulled away.
This book had my jaw dropping and I couldn't stop listening. Its a mystery/thriller with paranormal aspects. It takes a look at policy culture, post partum depression and PTSD all wrapped up in a haunted house mystery! The narrators were great (George Newbern might be one of my favorite male narrators), and I binged this book!
Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and Angela Douglas for the ALC for review.
I listened to the audiobook and these are two of my very favorite narrators, they did an amazing job as always! I was shocked to learn that this was the author’s debut novel, I just discovered while looking for more to read by her! Brilliant new author and if this is her first book, I can’t even imagine how good her next ones will be. I was captivated immediately- I listened to it in less than a day! Part police procedural, part domestic drama, part supernatural- a little bit of everything packed in and it all worked well together! Highly recommend this one!
