Every Fall is a thought provoking novel, and tackles real life issues such as PTSD and postpartum depression . I wouldn’t classify it as a thriller, but moreso domestic & family drama. The 2 narrators in the audiobook that portrayed the main characters in this novel, Bree and Jake, did a phenomenal job with these characters. The story follows Bree & Jake as they navigate through life with their small child and now another newborn, being practically newlyweds themselves. Married less than 2 years as they are still learning more and more about each other everyday. When Jake’s job as a cop becomes too much to handle emotionally and their livelihood is threatened, emotions run high and they are seeing sides of each other that didn’t even know existed. Solid read overall, the story captured me from the beginning however it did not keep me fully engaged until the end.

Thank you Dreamscape Media for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

This is a pretty solid thriller. It wasn’t exactly what I expected, but I like thrillers with some supernatural elements which this was. Bree didn’t know what she was getting into when she married a beat cop. She and Jake have to live in the neighborhood where he works and it is not a safe neighborhood. When the neighborhood becomes even more dangerous they risk moving to a house they find that is somehow affordable. But while the house is wonderful strange things start to happen. Bree and Jake aren’t getting along after their second child is born. The story is told in both of their perspectives. I listened to this one and thought the narration was excellent. It really helped to bring the story to life. I will admit I was expecting a bit more of a police procedural, but I enjoyed it as a supernatural thriller.

Every Fall had me hooked from the very beginning. The twists and turns in this psychological thriller kept me so engaged that I finished the book in 1 day. The creepy house parts had me double checking my door locks.

I really enjoyed this book! It’s told from the POVs of Bree & Jake and is set in Canada. This is Angela Douglas’ debut novel and wow what a debut it is! I can’t wait for future novels by Angela.

Andi Arndt & George Newbern did an excellent job with their narration.

Thank you to NetGalley & Dreamscape Media for letting me read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley for an early audio book copy of Every Fall by Angela Douglas
An interesting thriller that was a mix of police procedural and paranormal.
A couple and their young family move from the troubled neighbourhood where the husband is policeman into an old house in a better area.
The book contains lots of dark themes , is fast paced and has plenty of twists and turns , most chapters are either written from Bree or Jake’s perspectives.
I did find some parts of the book much more engaging than others , and some bits seemed repetitive but a good solid read that I will recommend to others
Both the narrators were excellent so I will look out for more books from the author and more read by them .

A fast-paced psychological thriller mixed with paranormal activity. Jake, a cop in a bad neighborhood, is trying to do anything to keep his family safe. When criminals start targeting his family, he moves his family an hour away to a new home when weird things start happening. None of the characters were likable, but that made the story even better. With everything that happens, they begin questioning their reality. The audiobook was good, and I thought the dual narrators was a great choice.

The description didn’t mention paranormal themes; I do not like haunted house stories and found myself annoyed when the story went in that direction. I kept reading because I was interested in the preview of being in a police family. Sadly I was turned off by the husbands decline into cheating and corruption 🥱 . The book then became so overtop by the end that I didn’t care for the book at all. I especially loathed the cartoon villain police officer and am very tired of infertile women being sociopaths

I was looking forward to this one, it's on my netgalley shelf but there is no audio file so I am not able to listen to it.

There was so much going on in this book 😳 there’s paranormal stuff, marriage problems (abuse, ppd, infidelity) double pov which was done well where I found myself wondering if one of them was an unreliable narrator. Overall it kept my attention. thanks to @dreamscape_media for my advanced listener’s copy :)

Every Fall is a creepy and compelling thriller that’ll keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat. With supernatural elements mixed into the real world grounding of this story, there’s an eeriness that’ll creep into your bones.

This story is told in dual POV, which is so well done, with unique attributes between the husband and wife main characters. They keep so much from each other, and experience life opposite one another. As a reader, seeing these two perspectives brings an additional edge to the story, because you’ll long for them to share with each other.

I listened to the audiobook version of this story. It was well done by two narrators. I listened at 1.75x speed (which is my normal audiobook listening speed).

Thank you NetGalley, and Dreamscape Media for this advanced audiobook copy.

This book was all over the place. It was trying to be too many genres at once. Half baked paranormal, thriller, police procedural, workplace toxicity, domestic abuse. It just had too much going on with very unredeemable characters.
I did find the writing had promise, I will try Angela Douglas' next book for sure.

Audio book review – this is an intricate and delicately balance tale of harrowing proportions and cleverly told between Andi Arndt and George Newbern. Their tone allows the listener to get truly absorbed into a story that makes you feel for all the characters. The acknowledgement at the start of the book really hit home and the tale was sympathetically described as it all unfolds.

This is a domestic thriller that explores topics of postpartum depression and trauma. I expected some kind of big twists but this one ended up being pretty straightforward. I was disappointed because I thought there was more to this one but it ended up being quite simple.

Disclaimer I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

Solid book. I requested this as a Netgalley arc based only on title and cover, and immediately was drawn into the story narrated by two fine voices. I honestly did not know which genre it was and, if you are like me, you’ll be comparing this one to other authors. At times it felt in the vein of a Nat Cassidy, or a Bentley Little.

I won’t go into book details because those are available ad nauseam. I love a family and new home dynamic and that was the primary subject. The reader never quite knows where this one will land but it’s worth the ride.

All that said, be aware there are trigger warnings. If domestic v-olence and post partum d-pression trigger you, this one will be difficult.

I absolutely plan to check out more from this author.

I'm afraid this wasn't a book for me. I understand the premise of a psychological thriller but, for me, there was far too much going on in the heads of our protagonists and far too little actually spoken.

The story follows Jake and Bree as they struggle to keep their family together. They are first threatened by a gang of drug dealers and so move to a much bigger home in a better neighbourhood. However the problems continue and when tragedy strikes Jake's RCMP partner - Matthews - he begins to take it out on his wife and children. Meanwhile, the wonderful new home is turning out to be less than perfect.

Let me say first that I listened to the audio version and I really liked that the two main characters were voiced by a woman and a man - Andi Arnett and George Newbern. This, for me, sets it above a lot of recordings where men fail to do female voices and women fail to do male voices accurately. The narrators had good, clear voices and didn't over-dramatize. I enjoyed listening to them.

The story, on the other hand, was a different kettle of fish. It would have put me off joining the RCMP for life. I know other institutions have problems dealing with mental health issues but this is 2024, I'd thought we were beyond using things like this against people.

There was also far too much thinking for me. We'd have a line of action followed by a paragraph of angsty, paranoic thinking, finishing with one line of dialogue. Then back to more thinking about what had been said by the other party. Yes, everyone has times when they find it difficult to express themselves but this was a whole book of two people not communicating. It got on my nerves.

I thought the plot could have been interesting but it flailed about all over the place and was quite repetitious. I'm afraid I didn't engage with either Bree or Jake.

The book simply wasn't for me.

Thankyou to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio advance review copy. The recording and it's narrators were excellent.

This was an awesome audiobook. I don’t usually enjoy police procedural books but this had so much more. Domestic suspense. Mystery. Crime. Great narration and POV’s. Well written. Finished it in a day.

I really loved the dual narration for the two main characters. 'Every Fall' was a really easy listen with both mystery and paranormal elements. Highly recommend the audiobook!

This is an incredible debut by an amazing new author, Angela Douglas! Bree is a fascinating character I felt drawn to. I enjoyed the intensity as events played out at a rapid pace. I can say it’s already going to be a favorite thriller of 2025. I’m thrilled for everyone to read this debut when it releases later this month & I can’t wait to see what Douglas delivers next!

Thank you NetGalley and DreamScape Media for the ALC!

I was very excited to start this audiobook because I’ve heard great things from trusted reviewers. I loved the dual POV, both voice actors were easy to listen to and enjoyable. The story follows a police officer/RCMP as he struggles to balance family life with work concerns. It shows the difficulty his wife has with day to day constraints placed on her husband, and her husband’s concerns dealing with the threats of criminals he arrests.

Overall, I think the book was well written and shone a light on the other side of this genre. I was disappointed because I anticipated this to be a thriller/mystery, and I feel like it lacked that completely. I didn’t mind the touch of paranormal incorporated, but again, expected a lot more oomph.

Probably my fave book of the month so far! A debut police procedural that was fresh, with elements of paranormal and horror.

Bree and Jake were outgrowing their home. They haven't been able to move due to his job in the police department (needing to be within jurisdiction.) But when a series of events, push both of them to the brink, they find a "work around" and bolt.

Everything feels right about this move, until strange things begin to happen. It would appear that Jake is losing sight of what's in front of him, and Bree -- is she safe?

This book leaned heavily with the topic of PPD, and the author does a sensitive job with it all, incorporating therapy for both protagonists and a blurb at the end of the book in the author's note.
I REALLY liked this thriller and look forward to reading more from this author!
Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to read and review!
