This fast paced and funny romance will be a wonderful companion when you're looking for something light but not too frivolous.
The characters are lovable and realistic, and although some suspension of disbelief is necessary at times, it does not come hard to do, as the temptation to root for the characters is too strong.
Some deeper topics are discussed in a way that does not diminish them, on the contrary, they are explored and faced bu the characters to reach a resolution for the best.
The secondary characters are also incredibly likeable, and I cannot wait to read the second book in the series.

Spies Don't Fall for Their Asset tells the story of spy movie-loving Mackenzie who mistakenly ends up as an IRL spy's asset. Mackenzie very much reminded me of Cher from Clueless, and Jace was an interesting enough character, but I didn't really feel the chemistry between them at all. The tension from the mystery angle felt pretty low stakes as well, and it made the book fall a bit short for me. But it was a quick, dual-narrated listen and could be the perfect little palette cleanser when you just need something light and fun.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media for gifting me with an ALC to review. All opinions are my own.

Spy movie loving Mackenzie hasn't been so lucky in love. Neither has spy extraordinaire, Jace. But a chance meeting has them both reconsidering and in for an adventure!

Mackenzie is so upbeat and fun, she's a lovable FMC full of positivity. Jace is reluctant and a serious, but drawn to Mackenzie like a moth to flame. This story was fun and enjoyable. The narrator did a great job with Mackenzie's character. If you're in the mood for some fluff with a little action and adventure, this is it.

***FOUR STARS***

During Reading Thoughts: I love the MMC but am frequently annoyed by the FMC, it might be the narrator. I like her "voice" for the other female characters. Adults saying "belly" gives me ick.

Okay. I've finished the book. It was definitely just the voice the narrator gave to the FMC that was making this a struggle for me. I really did enjoy the story a lot and when the narrator went on to read a preview of the next book, the voice she gave that FMC was perfectly fine to my ears.This is for sure a series I will continue and recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and the author for the opportunity to listen to and review this story.

This book was just fun!! Adventures, kisses, spies, and helicopters, so much going on but not too much. Mackenzie was just so sweet, and Jace was amazing as well. And that ending, just perfect!!

Loved it!

Spies Don't Fall For Their Assets was such a cute romantic comedy. I loved learning about both the main characters as well as all the side characters. I was actually laughing out loud at a few different parts. I'm so glad that this is part of a series because by the end of the audiobook I wanted so much more from this universe.

Overall I really enjoyed this novel but the narrators did leave something to be desired. It was hard to connect them with the characters in the novel.

3.5 ⭐
Wow, this book was such a blast! Nonstop action, crazy fun, and laugh-out-loud moments from start to finish. Do *not* start this book if you have responsibilities, you won’t want to put it down! I had to force myself to go to bed even though I only had three hours left because I just *had* to keep reading.

It’s a great, wholesome story with fantastic pacing, and I absolutely can’t wait for the second installment! My *only* issue was Jace, the male narrator, his delivery felt a bit robotic at times. Other than that, this book was pure entertainment, and I loved every second of it!
Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this ARC

3.5/5 starts from me. I fairly liked it.

This was a fun lighthearted cozy read!

This book is about spies, secrets, and romance.

Characters were sometimes a bit bland and boring to me, and I would like if there was more spy action.
I was kinda annoyed with the voice of the female narrator at the beginning - it was too high-pitched for me and I sometimes felt like I was listening to a spoiled adolescent.
However, with time I grew into it and felt like listening to a very quirky friend.

The drama at the end felt a bit forced to me, as they made it out of nothing, which, reading a spy novel, one would think there would be all kinds of true drama.
However, I really love that the characters face their own demons at the end before deciding to be together - that is a healthy approach and not necessarily common in these books.

Overall, I am glad to have read it and had a lot of fun with it.

Thank you to NetGalley, author and publisher for providing me with a free ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

This was a lighthearted and fun book to listen to. Loved the idea of the FMC loving spy movies and falling for someone who is a spy. It is such a cute rom-com and a nice break from everything going on in the world.
Looking forward to the next book in the series and hoping there’s one for each of the siblings (or all that work as spies).
Thank you NetGalley and to the publisher for the advance audio copy of this book!

If you love cozy spy romance, Spies Don't Fall for Their Asset is an absolute delight! This book perfectly blends spy intrigue, humor, and heartwarming romance, making it an engaging and entertaining read from start to finish.

I listened to the audiobook version, and the dual narration for the split POV was a fantastic touch. Having two distinct voices really added depth to the characters, making their interactions even more immersive and charming.

The story unfolds beautifully as you fall in love with the characters while they fall for each other. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the balance of witty banter, high-stakes missions, and swoon-worthy moments makes for an addictive read. Despite the spy setting, the novel maintains a light and cozy tone, making it a perfect pick if you're looking for a fun, feel-good romance with just the right amount of action.

Overall, Spies Don’t Fall for Their Asset is adorable, engaging, and absolutely worth five stars. If you’re a fan of romantic comedies with a spy twist, don’t miss this one! I already added this author's other books to my TBR.

Thank you Netgalley for the free ARC in return for my honest review.

Spies Don’t Fall for Their Asset is fun, easy, Hallmark-esque romance book. It had very little spy action. And very little romance, and the spice of a rated G movie. Hearing adults talk about the hot “make out” sessions was very junior-high ish. There were several cringe worthy moments, and the inner dialogue of the FMC got old really fast. I was hoping for something more in depth and realistic.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio arc.

Meg Easton delivers a fun, fast-paced romantic suspense in Spies Don’t Fall for Their Asset, and while the storytelling leans a little too much on telling rather than showing, the witty banter and humor more than make up for it.

Mackenzie and Jace have chemistry that crackles on the page, and their back-and-forth kept me grinning throughout. The mix of spy intrigue and romance makes for an engaging read, especially for those who love their love stories without the spice but still packed with tension and charm.

I’ll definitely be watching for more from Easton—this is a great pick for readers who enjoy romance with humor, action, and a strong connection between leads. Solid job by the narrators!

Thank you to NetGalley and DreamScape Media for the ALC of this novel!

Mackenzie meets Jace completely by chance--he rescues her from the worst blind date of her life. When he sees her the next day at an outdoor shopping mall, he realizes she has been mistaken for the woman in a drop of a very important key. From then on, Mackenzie is his asset as a field operative for the CSA. It begins as a way to protect her but ends with Jace forgetting to protect his heart.

This was a really sweet romance with a bit of suspense thrown in--my favorite!! Mack is a ray of sunshine to Jace's grumpy but cute exterior. I loved how their relationship developed throughout the book, it felt very natural and free. This is a clean romance, no swearing and no explicit scenes or mentions. I could have used a little more spy action in the book, but overall I give it 4.5 stars. Narrators were amazing, and their voices worked well together.

Jace and MacKenzie are full of character and dynamite!

It was so enjoyable to see how MacKenzie was so invested but totally aloof when it comes to Jace and life. She's obsessed with spy movies and can't believe her luck. The entire scene when Jace saves her date is the best. He is such a grumpy, suave guy, yet a cinnamon roll. As he continues to protect her, he starts to fall, even if he doesn't want to and she is always in need of a rescue. There were some cheesy moments, but so fun!

Their banter is the best and they have so many fun adventures together. I love the dual POV too. The Lancaster family is going to be so much fun to read about and I can't wait to see what else is in store for them. I love Charlie and how awesome she is for her brother.

"Good luck, have fun, don't die!"
Three things that are always part of my plan.

The audio is equally delightful and enjoyable! Hallie and Rusty were spot on and I could definitely feel MacKenzie's energy and her character. Rusty has such a smooth tone and was so secretive and spy like...love it.

Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the audiobook.

This book was just plain fun! A secret agent and a woman obsessed with spy movies cross paths and romance ensues? Sign. Me. Up. I thought that this was such a fun, closed door romance. It was like watching a hallmark spy movie but in my ears.

The narrators of this audiobook did an excellent job bringing the story to life and I would definitely listen to other books from them again.

I had such a blast with this book and look forward to more books from this author in the future.

First thing’s first: thank you Netgalley for the ALC of this book!
Spies Don’t Fall For Their Assets was such a fun and cute story about Mackenzie, a spy movie loving normie and Jace, an actual spy who’s assigned to keep Mackenzie safe after she accidentally gets involved in a dangerous criminal plot. This book was more romance, less spy stuff, but it was just so fun! It was silly and light hearted and funny and the characters were easy to root for. I loved watching them fall in love. Please go into this book expecting camp because that’s what you’re gonna get. Don’t take it too seriously and have a great time!

Mackenzie loves spy movies, but little does she know Jace, who she met when she was on a date with another man, is a real life spy. Or as he insists an intelligence operative. She ends up becoming his asset without knowing it after unknowingly getting in the middle of a drop off of bad characters.

This was a light, fairly entertaining read. The family of spies premise intrigued me a bunch, but the execution of the story fell a bit flat for me. One thing was the pacing felt off, and also I was not bought in on the romance plot. It felt overly cheesy and several of the events felt unmotivated.

I listened to the audiobook and loved the FMC narrator, but felt the MMC narrator's voice was flat and did not fit with the energy of the FMC narrator.

Tropes
* Spy MMC
* Secret identity
* Third act break up
* Closed door romance
* Family business
* Forced Proximity

I loved this book! It was so much fun. I listened to the audio version of it and the FMC narrator was amazing. She made the character really seem realistic and had so much emotion when speaking.

The storyline of the spy falling for the girl that loves all things spy movies was a really fun concept. The relationship between Jace and Mackenzie was swoon worthy and had me kicking my feet giggling at times. The relationship seemed just so raw and realistic that I could picture this whole book happening as I was reading it.

3.5⭐️ My first book by Meg Easton and it was cute. An entire spy family? That concept is so fun. I liked the main characters and the introduction of the rest of the family. They were fun and not over the top annoying, but maybe a bit cheesy. I loved that the FMC loved spy movies and was basically in one herself without knowing it. Anyways, this was a book you can sit down, turn your brain off, and listen to while you crochet (yes another old lady hobby of mine). And I did just that.

With all that said. I definitely had more issues than good things to say. The guy narrator sounded AI and I was not a fan. He was too soft for a guy who was supposed to portray a tough secret agent. The female narrator is one of my favorites so I enjoyed her chapters.

Now, things about the story itself. It wasn’t very well executed. Kind of one dimensional. That’s why you can listen to this passively while crocheting, because there isn’t much to hook you.

Also, so random, but that dance scene absolutely cringed me out. No. There was also such an out of the blue 3rd act breakup that I think could have been avoided with some grown up communication, but I guess we needed that conflict and reunion.

Anyways, it’s pretty low stakes for a spy book, it’s fast paced, nothing really special, but it was ultimately a mediocre listen. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the siblings stories. Hopefully they hook me more than this one.
